Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to discuss moving forward on a global basis with digital diplomatics.
Design/methodology/approach
This study fused a historic review of multiple fields to form a proposed future.
Findings
Today, the metadata associated with digital record-keeping is largely based on the methods from the pre-digital age. It fails to take into account the underlying digital mechanisms and their unique properties. At the same time, digital systems already produce large quantities of redundant data that could be and has been used in consistency analysis. A rational improvement would be to use the nature of digital systems in conjunction with intentional redundancy to create metadata and other forms of redundant information that could be validated in diplomatic examination but would be hard to forge consistently by an internal act of alteration.
Originality/value
This study uses a unique approach of fusing digital forensic science with digital diplomatics in the form of using inherent redundancy in digital records and metadata for consistency analysis as a means to fuse the fields.

Abstract
Organizational fields are shaped by both the relations that organizations forge and the language they express. The structure and discourse of organizational fields have been studied before, but seldom in combination. We offer a methodological approach that integrates relations and expressions into a comprehensive visualization.
By mapping networks and discourse as co-constitutive, the method illuminates the mechanisms active in organizational fields. We utilize social impact evaluation as an issue field shaped by the presence of an interstitial community, and compare this structure with simulated alternative field configurations.
The simulations reveal that variation in organizations’ openness to adopting concepts from adjacent meaning systems alters field configurations: differentiation manifests under conditions of low overall openness, whereas moderate receptivity produces hybridizations of discourses and sometimes the emergence of an interstitial community that bridges domains. If certain organizations are open while others remain focused on their original discourse, then we observe integration in the discursive domain of the invariant organizations.
The observations from the simulations are represented by visualizing organizational fields as topographies of meaning, onto which interorganizational relations are layered. This representation localizes organizations and their interactions in a cultural space while emphasizing how meanings of relationships and organizational expressions vary with different field configurations. By adding meaning to network data, the resulting maps open new perspectives for institutional research on the adaptation, translation, and diffusion of concepts.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide a foundational reference and practical guidance for modelling small and poor data with incomplete information.
Design/methodology/approach
The definitions of four basic models of GM(1, 1), such as Even Grey Model (EGM), Original Difference Grey Model (ODGM), Even Difference Grey Model (EDGM) and Discrete Grey Model (DGM), are put forward. The properties and characteristics of different models are studied and their equivalence are proved. The suitable sequences of different models are studied by simulation and analysis with homogeneous exponential sequences, nonhomogeneous exponential increasing sequences and vibration sequences.
Findings
The main conclusions have been obtained as follows: first, the three discrete models of ODGM, EDGM and DGM are suitable for homogeneous exponential sequences or sequences which close to a homogeneous exponential sequence; and second the EGM are suitable for nonhomogeneous exponential increasing sequences and vibration sequences.
Practical implications
The outcome obtained in this paper can be consulted for model selection in the course of practical modelling.
Originality/value
This paper systematically defined the four basic forms of model GM(1, 1) and studied their properties and characteristics, especially their suitable sequences. Although significant progress has been made in this field, such a systematic study on these models and their suitable sequences is still missing as far as we know. It can provide reference and basis for people to choose the correct model in the actual modelling process.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to simplify the computation of parameter estimation in the grey linear regression model and solve the problem that the development coefficient could not be computed in some sequence data, such as short‐term traffic flow.
Design/methodology/approach
Starting from the limitation that can be identified in the equation and analyzing the range using the method to estimate parameters, this paper researches the modelling mechanism and the other forms which are equivalent with the original form. At the same time, this paper gives an estimation method and gets the relationship in various forms and the relationship between the model and GM(1,1) model.
Findings
For the grey linear regression model, there exists a new method of parameter identification and three other forms as follows: the original form, the Whitenization equation and the connotation form.
Practical implications
The method of parameter identification exposed in the paper expanded the scope of the application of the grey linear regression model, and it can be used to model and forecast the urban road short‐time traffic flow.
Originality/value
This paper has solved some complicated problems such as the parameter estimation computation in the grey linear regression model. In addition, three kinds of representation forms of the model and its relationship between the model and GM(1,1) have also been presented. Finally, its application of the model in a short‐term traffic flow prediction has shown its superiority.

Word truncation is a familiar technique employed by online searchers in order to increase recall in free text retrieval. The use of truncation, however, can be a mixed blessing since many words starting with the same root are not semantically or logically related. Consequently, online searchers often select words to be OR‐ed together from an alphabetic display of neighbouring terms in the inverted file in order to assure precision in the search. Automatic stemming algorithms typically function in a manner analogous to word truncation, with the added risk of the word roots being incorrectly identified by the algorithm. This paper describes a two‐phase stemming algorithm that consists of the identification of the word root and the automatic selection of ‘well‐formed’ morphological word variants from the actual inverted file entries that start with the same word root. The algorithm has been successfully used in an end‐user interface to NLM's Catline book catalog file.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this paper is to assist both the National Library of Australia and other institutions to think about digital objects in ways that will help to identify which preservation actions are most appropriate for a particular circumstance. It seeks to examine the basic nature of digital objects and how users interact with those objects.
Design/methodology/approach
This article brings together and clarifies a number of key digital preservation theories. It proposes the concept of preservation intent: a clear articulation of a commitment to preserve an object, the specific elements of the object the should be preserved, and a clear time line for the duration of preservation. It investigates these concepts through simple and practical examples.
Findings
The paper presents what the authors believe are some of the essential ideas and thinking about digital preservation.
Practical implications
The paper will prove useful in clarifying some of the terminology and concepts to those who are in or are yet to be initiated into the “order”.
Originality/value
The paper brings together and clarifies some of the core ideas and theories in digital preservation, in order to better facilitate the minimisation of change in the digital objects stored by the National Library of Australia.

The time‐discretization process of transient equation systems is an important concern in computational heat transfer applications. As such, the present paper describes a formal basis towards providing the theoretical concepts, evolution and development, and characterization of a wide class of time discretized operators for transient heat transfer computations. Therein, emanating from a common family tree and explained via a generalized time weighted philosophy, the paper addresses the development and evolution of time integral operators [IO], and leading to integration operators [InO] in time encompassing single‐step integration operators [SSInO], multi‐step integration operators [MSInO], and a class of finite element in time integration operators [FETInO] including the relationships and the resulting consequences. Also depicted are those termed as discrete numerically assigned [DNA] algorithmic markers essentially comprising of both: the weighted time fields, and the corresponding conditions imposed upon the dependent variable approximation, to uniquely characterize a wide class of transient algorithms. Thereby, providing a plausible standardized formal ideology when referring to and/or relating time discretized operators applicable to transient heat transfer computations.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to study the formation and preservation of behavioral integration (BI) in the top management team (TMT) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1844 to the present.
Design/methodology/approach
An analytically structured history approach within a case exemplar framework is adopted. Theoretical insights are extrapolated from the case study to form a process model of BI formation and preservation in TMTs.
Findings
The findings reveal that three factors primarily influence BI creation (induction, education and cementation) and that BI is preserved via an iterative process that is driven by CEO conservatorship, intentional mentoring and social modeling.
Originality/value
This study investigates an unexplored area in upper echelons theory: the process by which BI is formed and preserved in TMTs and presents a process model of BI formation and preservation that shifts attention in the literature from analyses of the effect of BI on various organizational outcomes to how it can be formed in the first place and then preserved.

Production engineers may cast around for means of saving costs but seldom pay attention to the toolroom. Is this because toolmakers are craftsmen and it is implied, therefore, they always work effectively when making tools or repairing old ones? This may be so, but there are many cases in the past, the present and, no doubt, in the future where tools costs are far too high relative to the product involved.
