Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate customer responsiveness in the hotel industry, and the role of market orientation including both internal and external information sharing.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on a review of the supply chain management and marketing literature, a conceptual model was constructed and tested based on a survey of European hotel managers using PLS path modeling.
Findings
Market orientation seems to be an important basis for cross‐functional and inter‐organizational information sharing. Information exchange, both internal and external, can explain over 50 percent of customer responsiveness, as perceived by hotel managers.
Research limitations/implications
The study mainly focused on European four‐ and five‐star hotels. The final sample is considered representative, but relatively small (50 respondents). The observed importance of information sharing warrants further investigation.
Practical implications
While many hotel managers may focus on cleanliness, comfort of rooms, quality of food and friendliness, it seems that both internal and external information sharing are important antecedents of customer responsiveness, and hence satisfaction and loyalty.
Originality/value
This paper, by combining marketing and supply chain management concepts into one model, offers new insights into the hotel business. Customer responsiveness can be improved through market orientation and information sharing.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to increase awareness and educate the reader about health-care fraud targeting seniors in the USA to help stakeholders better understand, recognize and prevent this type of fraud.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper collects statistics on the current state of health care frauds committed against seniors, and examines related cases and laws.
Findings
The authors find this type of fraud is highly prevalent and expected to increase. Current laws preventing this fraud from occurring are multifold and complex. While prevention strategies through law enforcement have been somewhat successful, a reduction in resources may put seniors at an increased risk in the years to come.
Research limitations/implications
Without additional prevention strategies, the problem will likely escalate with a growing population of older adults. This study encourages further research into effective prevention strategies and methods to fight health-care fraud against seniors.
Practical implications
Health-care fraud and its associated costs pose a significant threat to the society and economy of the USA. Reducing this fraud will not only reduce the costs to the US economy but also improve the physical and mental well-being of senior victims, reduce their mortality and hospitalization rates and improve the public trust placed to health-care providers.
Originality/value
This study highlights how health-care fraud is committed against seniors. With the projected trend of an aging US population, educating stakeholders, increasing awareness and applying tools to protect seniors will be important to reduce the absolute scope of this problem in the future.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to discuss financial fraud and exploitation against seniors relating to wills, trusts and guardianship. The paper describes how this fraud affects its victims, points out red flags and makes recommendations that may help control this pervasive type of fraud.
Design/methodology/approach
Information from a range of different sources, such as journal publications, law textbooks, law enforcement websites and estate planning cases are used as a basis to provide information about how fraudsters are committing this type of fraud, which red flags to watch out for and how to prevent this fraud from occurring.
Findings
Fraud relating to wills, trusts and guardianship is oftentimes difficult to detect and continues to be a grave threat to its victims. While this fraud will likely never be eradicated, specific efforts have been put into place to track financial exploitation. Further steps presented in this paper can be deployed to help rein in these fraud schemes.
Practical implications
The paper provides useful information about frauds related to wills, trusts and guardianship for stakeholders. This includes, but is not limited to, anyone whose work is related to seniors, such as accountants, lawyers, regulators, bankers, financial planners, law enforcement personnel, academics, medical professionals, caregivers, family members and ethicists. These stakeholders can use this information to help combat this fraud and prevent not only financial losses of seniors but physical harm as well.
Social implications
Decreasing financial exploitation of seniors will not only improve their financial position and may reduce their reliance on Medicaid but will also improve their mental and physical well-being and save lives.
Originality/value
Research in the area of maltreatment and exploitation of older adults is still in its early stages, as knowledge of effective prevention, intervention and remediation practices are limited. This paper adds to the research in this arena by drawing on a unique set of resources that shed light on financial fraud commonly committed against seniors. This study also makes much needed recommendations that are aimed to prevent this threat related to wills, trusts and guardianship.

Abstract
Purpose
United Nations’ World Population Ageing Report states that falls are one of the most common problems in the elderly around the world. Falls are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among mature adults, and the second leading cause of accidental or unintentional injury/death after road traffic injuries. The rates are higher in hospitalized patients and nursing home residents. Major contributing reasons for falling are loss of footing or traction, balance problem in carpets and rugs, reduced muscle strength, poor vision, mobility/gait, cognitive impairment: in other words lack of balance. Balance can be improved by the practice of yoga which helps to balance both body and mind through a series of physical postures called asanas, breathing control and meditation. Elders, especially women, are often unable to practice yoga regularly, largely brought on by a feeling of discomfort at having to do so in full public view, preferring instead to have private sessions at home, and at leisure. A computer-assisted self-learning system can be developed to help such elders, though improper training and the postures associated with it may harm the body’s muscles and ligaments. To have a flawless system it is essential to classify asanas, and identify the one the practitioner is currently practicing, following which the system can offer the guidance necessary. The purpose of this paper is to propose a posture recognition system, especially of sitting and standing postures. Asanas are chiefly classified into two: sitting and standing postures. This study helps to decide the values of the parameters for classification, which involve the hip and joint angles.
Design/methodology/approach
To model human bodies, skeleton parts such as head, neck (which are responsible for head movements), arms, hands (to decide on hand postures), and legs and feet (for standing posture identification) have been modeled and stored as a vector. Each feature is defined as a set of movable joints. Every interaction among the skeleton joints defines an action. Human skeletal information may be represented as a hierarchy of joints, in a parent–child relationship. So that whenever there is a change in joint its corresponding parent joint may also be altered.
Findings
The findings have to do with analyzing the reasons for falls in the elderly and their need for yoga as a precautionary measure. As yoga is ideally suited to self-assisted learning, it is feasible to design a system that assists people who do not wish to practice yoga in public. However, asanas are to be classified prior to doing so. In this paper, the authors have designed a posture identification framework comprising the sitting and standing postures that are fundamental to all yoga asanas, using joint angle measurements. Having fixed joint angle values is not possible, given the variations in angle values among the participants. Consequently, such parameters as the hip joint and knee angles are to be specified in range for a classification of asanas.
Research limitations/implications
This work identifies the angle limits of standing and sitting postures so as to design a self-assisting system for yoga. Yoga asanas are classified and tested to enable their accurate identification. Extensive testing with older people is needed to assess the system.
Practical implications
The increase in the population of the elderly, coupled with their need for medical care, is a major concern worldwide. As older people are reluctant to practice yoga in public, it is anticipated that the proposed system will motivate them to do so at their convenience, and in the seclusion of their homes.
Social implications
As older people are reluctant to adapt as well as practice yoga in public view, the proposal motivates and helps them to carry out yoga practices at their convenience.
Originality/value
This paper fulfills the initial study on the need and feasibility of creating a self-assisted yoga learning system. To identify postures and classify them joint angles are used; their range of motion has been calculated in order to set them as parameters of classification.
