Addressing the needs of people with a dual diagnosis is a core component of acute inpatient mental healthcare. In 2006/2007, the Healthcare Commission conducted a national review of NHS acute inpatient wards in England. The review included five indicators of particular relevance to working with people with a dual diagnosis. This paper provides an overview of the review process, reports the dual diagnosis findings and considers their implications for improving the care and treatment of people with a dual diagnosis in the inpatient setting.

In the context of public concern about homicides committed by mentally ill people, the assessment and management of risk has become a central feature of national mental health policy and practice. This article reports the increasing profile given to the assessment and management of risk in national guidance on the Care Programme Approach (CPA). It goes on to describe findings from a two‐phase qualitative study to evaluate the integration of risk assessment procedures within the framework of the CPA process and the development of a risk assessment strategy by staff at Redford Lodge Hospital, an independent sector provider of medium secure and forensic rehabilitation psychiatric services.The evaluation demonstrated that Redford Lodge has successfully integrated risk assessment within the CPA process and has developed tools that offer a basis for guiding interventions while the service user is detained in hospital and to inform future strategies for supporting them in the community.

Supporting community participation and social inclusion is a key goal of modernised day services but there is a lack of instruments to measure these outcomes. This paper discusses issues around the measurement of social inclusion, presents a pilot study and introduces the Inclusion Web, a strategy to record changes in social networks and environment while supporting the concept of a shared perspective of social inclusion. Two aspects of social and community participation are quantified and tallied over eight life domains: people (personal relationships) and places (institutions that matter to the individual).
Sponsorship rarely occurs in a one sponsor-one sponsee dyad (single sponsorship), yet a large portion of sponsorship research takes this perspective. The purpose of this paper is to propose a model that reflects the complexity and rich diversity inherent in the field. The sponsorship network model considers the plurality of stakeholders to a sponsorship and their potential relationships to each other.
This conceptual paper develops a theoretical and conceptual framework to better identify the effect of sponsorship networks on consumer behavior.
Based on a review of the multiple sponsorships literature, the authors propose an innovative theoretical framework and a set of research propositions. The model considers simultaneously the potential relations between sponsors, sponsees and ambushers at the cognitive, affective and conative levels.
This research emphasizes the managerial implications for stakeholders involved in sponsorship and ambush marketing actions in order to maximize their investment. The model provides a comprehensive understanding of the complex nature of sponsorship networks and their ability to influence consumer behaviors. These effects are more complex than is currently recognized.
