Few people in retailing are unaware of the contribution being made by computers in areas such as stock control, accounting procedures and merchandise management. Less familiar is computer‐aided design and its potential impact on store design and planning. CCD is a computer drafting company which was set up by Nick Coutts a year ago, and they have been regularly demonstrating CAD techniques to store planners who realise the advantages the system can give them. CCD have installed the first Calcomp IGS‐500 interactive graphics computer in the UK, and have ordered an additional workstation which will enable them to handle the increased work load.

The purpose of this paper is to describe the processes and results of implementing and evaluating the Releasing Time to Care™ (RTC™) model in a 45‐bed Neurosciences unit in a tertiary care hospital in Saskatchewan province of western Canada.

Organizational restructuring in healthcare systems has impacted the ability of clinical registered nurses (CRNs) in participation and in influencing the decision making that affect the delivery and outcomes of patient‐centered care. At the same time, CRNs' work has intensified because of increases in patient acuity, technological advances, complexity of care provided to patient families and communities, in addition to the intensifying demands put on by an aging population and dwindling resources. The work reported in this paper shows that significant improvements have been made based on the current needs and the change is forever imminent. Establishing solid people connections and networking opportunities proved valuable for current and future exchange of information and knowledge translation.

Model implementation resulted in positive narrative and empirical data including: improved patient safety, staff engagement, leadership opportunities and an affirmative shift in organizational culture. Improved patient safety was evidenced by a reduction in falls and decreased medication errors.

The paper focuses on including the clinical nurse in organizational and system change towards improving patient‐centered quality care. Reviews previous research on the links between business failures, macroeconomic conditions and insolvency law; and develops a mathematical, econometric model to investigate them further, using 1996‐1998 UK data. Presents and discusses the results, which suggest that the 1986 Insolvency Act did help to reduce the overall level of business failures and estimates that it saved 1100 companies from bankruptcy in the first three years after implementation. Finds that interest rates, price levels, levels of business formation, credit conditions and profit levels also affect business failure rates.

The report is aimed very much at the user and provides a practical assessment of the impact optical storage will have on all in the information, storage, retrieval and dissemination business.

As CD‐ROM becomes more and more a standard reference and technical support tool in all types of libraries, the annual review of this technology published in Computers in Libraries magazine increases in size and scope.
