Abstract
The Royal County of Berkshire is well known for its population of lions at the Windsor Safari Park. Lions also feature prominently in Berkshire's county crest. Berkshire Library and Information Service have therefore introduced an animated “Library Lion” as a mascot to promote the use of children's libraries throughout the county.

Abstract
This article reports on a recent study of personnel management in the life insurance industry. Until recently the industry has enjoyed a comparatively untroubled expansion largely because of the investment‐seeking surplus incomes of an increasingly affluent population and the market protection which large asset bases provided for the established companies. Recent developments are eroding the stability, though not the overall potential, of the market and it is against this background that our analysis takes place.

Abstract
Retailing is sometimes defined as having the right goods in the right place at the right time. Latest developments in information technology can ensure that the supply chain runs even more smoothly and efficiently, to get those goods to the shelves even faster. Abstract
The major problems experienced in implementing IT systems in the public sector are reviewed. Many projects sub‐optimise due to neglect of the human aspects of computerisation, broadly conceived. It is concluded that establishing 16 success criteria still need to be imported into many IT projects if effective systems are to result.

Abstract
This empirical research studies the marketing information systems of various enterprises ranging from a small business to a national corporation. The use of IT by these organisations in support of their marketing functions is examined especially in relation to such things as size of enterprise, resources available and used, the personalities and dominant “culture” of the company. The results show clear differences between tactical and strategic IT systems according to these dimensions.

Abstract
Netiquette is derived by merging the words network and etiquette. More specifically the term netiquette has been described as the conventions of politeness recognized on Usenet and in mailing lists. In the context of the new Internet global culture, attempts are being made to identify common standards of etiquette. Literally hundreds of specific netiquette suggestions are published. Identifies the following most frequently cited specific suggestions for online users: think first; write in upper and lower case; avoid abbreviations; be concise; avoid smileys; don’t flame; don’t take offense easily; don’t evangelize; and know the audience. Netiquette breaches do not always bring retribution. Most breaches of politeness and courtesy may do no more than reflect poorly on the individual user. One who knows the rules of this new culture may well have an advantage over one who does not.
