This is a discussion paper exploring the key issues surrounding generalized measures.

Findings

The concrete contents of the study include generalized measure views, dimension theory, concepts, logic, theories, Einstein's relativity, quality‐quantity‐degree, methodology of physics, theorems in pansystems mathematics and physics explained within the framework of pan‐scale transformations.

Abstract

Purpose

In order to make full use of the generalized greyness of interval grey number, this paper analyzes the properties and its applications of generalized greyness.

Design/methodology/approach

Firstly, the static properties of generalized greyness in bounded background domain, infinite background domain and infinitesimal background domain are analyzed. Then, this paper gives the dynamic properties of generalized greyness in bounded background domain, infinite background domain and infinitesimal background domain and explains the dialectical principle contained in it. Finally, the generalized greyness is used to judge the effectiveness of interval grey number transformation.

Findings

The results show that the generalized greyness of interval grey number has relativity, normativity, unity, eternity and conservation. The static and dynamic properties of generalized greyness are the same in the infinite and infinitesimal background domain, while they are different in the bounded background domain. The generalized greyness can be used as an index to judge whether the grey number transformation is greyness or information preservation.

Practical implications

The research shows that the generalized greyness can be used as an index to judge the validity of the grey number transformation and also can be applied in grey evaluation, grey decision-making and grey prediction and so on.

Originality/value

The paper succeeds in realizing the mathematical principle of “white is black”, the “greyness clock-slow effect” of the value domain of interval grey number and the generalized greyness conservation principle, which provides a theoretical basis for the rational use of generalized greyness of interval grey number.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to study the properties of the NGM (1,1,k) prediction model with multiplication transformation and reduce its modeling complexity.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors improved this model by putting forward a formula to solve its parameters, building an algorithm for optimizing the NGM (1,1,k) model in terms of the least modeling error and designing a key technology for the implementation of this algorithm. The optimized NGM (1,1,k) model is built accordingly. The parameter characteristics of the two models under multiple transformations and its effect of the simulation value and forecasting value are analyzed by studying the properties of multiple transformation of the two models.

Findings

The research finding shows that the modeling accuracies of the NGM (1,1,k) model and the optimized NGM (1,1,k) model are all in no relation to multiple transformations.

Practical implications

The above results imply that the data level can be reduced; the process of building the NGM (1,1,k) model and the optimized NGM (1,1,k) model can be simplified; but the simulative and predictive accuracy of the two models remain unchanged.

Originality/value

The paper succeeds in realising the properties of NGM (1,1,k) model and the optimized NGM (1,1,k) model by using the method of multiplication transformation, which is helpful for understanding the modeling mechanism and expanding the application range of the NGM (1,1,k) model.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to study the properties of derived grey verhulst prediction model with multiplication transformation and reduce its modeling complexity.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper discussed the parameter characteristics of grey derived verhulst model under multiple transformation, and demonstrated its effect on its simulative value and predictive value by investigating the multiple transformation acting on the raw data sequence of this grey model. The parameter characteristics of this model under multiple transformations and its effect of the simulation value and forecasting value are analyzed by studying the properties of multiply transformation of this model.

Findings

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to reveal the changing role of the parameters of the DDGM(1,1) model after multiple transformations in the modeling sequence.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper considers DDGM(1,1) model as the research object, adopts the parameter packet technique to analyze the influence of multiple transformations on the modeling accuracy of this model and discusses the quantitative relation of model parameters as multiple transformations in system’s characteristic sequences.

Findings

The results of numerical calculation show that the modeling accuracy of DDGM(1,1) model is not affected by multiple transformations in the characteristics sequence of systems.

Originality/value

The paper succeeds in realizing the properties of DDGM(1,1) model by using the method of multiple transformations, which is helpful to understand the modeling mechanism and expand the application range of DDGM(1,1) model.

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to discuss the linear solution of equality constrained problems by using the Frontal solution method without explicit assembling.

Design/methodology/approach

Re-written frontal solution method with a priori pivot and front sequence. OpenMP parallelization, nearly linear (in elimination and substitution) up to 40 threads. Constraints enforced at the local assembling stage.

Findings

When compared with both standard sparse solvers and classical frontal implementations, memory requirements and code size are significantly reduced.

Research limitations/implications

Large, non-linear problems with constraints typically make use of the Newton method with Lagrange multipliers. In the context of the solution of problems with large number of constraints, the matrix transformation methods (MTM) are often more cost-effective. The paper presents a complete solution, with topological ordering, for this problem.

Practical implications

A complete software package in Fortran 2003 is described. Examples of clique-based problems are shown with large systems solved in core.

Social implications

More realistic non-linear problems can be solved with this Frontal code at the core of the Newton method.

Originality/value

Use of topological ordering of constraints. A-priori pivot and front sequences. No need for symbolic assembling. Constraints treated at the core of the Frontal solver. Use of OpenMP in the main Frontal loop, now quantified. Availability of Software.

Abstract

Purpose

The growing trends in the usage of hand held devices necessitate the need to design them with low power consumption and less area design. Besides, information security is gaining enormous importance in information transmission and data storage technology. In addition, today’s technology world is connected, communicated and controlled via the Internet of Things (IoT). In many applications, the most standard and widely used cryptography algorithm for providing security is Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). This paper aims to design an efficient model of AES cryptography for low power and less area.

Design/methodology/approach

First, the main issues related to less area and low power consumption in the AES encryption core are addressed. To implement optimized AES core, the authors proposed optimized multiplicative inverse, affine transforms and Xtime multipliers functions, which are the core function of AES’s core. In addition, to achieve the high throughput, it uses the multistage pipeline and resource reuse architectures for SBox and Mixcolumn of AES.

Findings

The results of optimized AES architecture have revealed that the multistage pipe line and resource sharing are optimal design model in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) implementation. It could provide high security with low power and area for IoT and wireless sensors networks.

Originality/value

This proposed optimized modified architecture has been implemented in FPGA to calculate the power, area and delay parameters. This multistage pipeline and resource sharing have promised to minimize the area and power.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the mechanism and filter efficacy of accumulation generation operator (AGO)/inverse accumulation generation operator (IAGO) in the frequency domain.

Design/methodology/approach

The AGO/IAGO in time domain will be transferred to the frequency domain by the Fourier transform. Based on the consistency of the mathematical expressions of the AGO/IAGO in the gray system and the digital filter in digital signal processing, the equivalent filter model of the AGO/IAGO is established. The unique methods in digital signal processing systems “spectrum analysis” of AGO/IAGO are carried out in the frequency domain.

Findings

Through the theoretical study and practical example, benefit of spectrum analysis is explained, and the mechanism and filter efficacy of AGO/IAGO are quantitatively analyzed. The study indicated that the AGO is particularly suitable to act on the system's behavior time series in which the long period parts is the main factor. The acted sequence has good effect of noise immunity.

Practical implications

The AGO/IAGO has a wonderful effect on the processing of some statistical data, e.g. most of the statistical data related to economic growth, crop production, climate and atmospheric changes are mainly affected by long period factors (i.e. low-frequency data), and most of the disturbances are short-period factors (high-frequency data). After processing by the 1-AGO, its high frequency content is suppressed, and its low frequency content is amplified. In terms of information theory, this two-way effect improves the signal-to-noise ratio greatly and reduces the proportion of noise/interference in the new sequence. Based on 1-AGO acting, the information mining and extrapolation prediction will have a good effect.

Originality/value

The authors find that 1-AGO has a wonderful effect on the processing of data sequence. When the 1-AGO acts on a data sequence X, its low-pass filtering effect will benefit the information fluctuations removing and high-frequency noise/interference reduction, so the data shows a clear exponential change trends. However, it is not suitable for excessive use because its equivalent filter has poles at the non-periodic content. But, because of pol effect at zero frequency, the 1-AGO will greatly amplify the low-frequency information parts and suppress the high-frequency parts in the information at the same time.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to develop a tendon actuated variable stiffness double spring based continuously tapered multi-section flexible robot and study its capability to achieve the desired bending and compression for inspection in cluttered environments.

Design/methodology/approach

Spring-based continuum manipulators get compressed while actuated for bending. This property can be used for the advantage in cluttered environments if one is able to control both bending and compression. Here, this paper uses a mechanics based model to achieve the desired bending and compression. Moreover, this study tries to incorporate the tapered design to help in independent actuation of the distal sections with minimal effects on proximal sections. This study is also trying to incorporate the double spring based design to minimize the number of spacers in the robot body.

Findings

The model was able to produce desired curvature at the tip section with less than 4.62% error. The positioning error of the manipulator is nearly 3.5% which is at par with the state-of-the-art manipulators for search and rescue operations. It was also found that the use of double spring can effectively reduce the number of spacers required. It can be helpful in smooth robot to outer world interaction without any kink. From the experiments, it has been found that the error of the kinematic model decreases as one moves from high radius of curvature to low radius of curvature. Error is maximum when the radius of curvature is infinity.

Practical implications

The proposed manipulator can be used for search operations in cluttered environments such as collapsed buildings and maintenance of heavy machineries in industries.

Originality/value

The novelty of this paper lies in the design and the proposed kinematics for a spring-based continuously tapered multi-section manipulator.

Abstract

A DSIR Sponsored Research Programme on the Development and Application of the Matrix Force Method and the Digital Computer. This work presents a rational method for the structural analysis of stressed skin fuselages for application in conjunction with the digital computer. The theory is a development of the matrix force method which permits a close integration of the analysis and the programming for a computer operating with a matrix interpretive scheme. The structural geometry covered by the analysis is sufficiently arbitrary to include most cases encountered in practice, and allows for non‐conical taper, double‐cell cross‐sections and doubly connected rings. An attempt has been made to produce a highly standardized procedure requiring as input information only the simplest geometrical and elastic data. An essential feature is the use of the elimination and modification technique subsequent to the main analysis of the regularized structure in which all cutouts have been filled in. Current Summary A critical historical appraisal of previous work in the Western World on fuselage analysis is given in the present issue together with an outline of the ideas underlying the new theory.
