Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the impact of liquidity creation per capita of tri-banking system and dual banking system on real economic output.
Design/methodology/approach
This study applies the feasible generalized least square framework on the data set of 12 countries, 8 with tri-banking system and 4 with dual banking system over the 2013–2022 period.
Findings
The findings show that for countries with tri-banking system, only liquidity creation by full-fledged Islamic Banks (FIBs) and hybrid conventional banks (HCBs) spurs real output, with the impact of HCBs being greater than that of FIBs. Nonetheless, for countries with dual banking system, both FIBs’ and pure CBs’ (PCBs) liquidity creation fosters real output. However, the impact of PCBs is slightly greater. Finally, Granger causality results confirm only the positive impact of the tri-banking system’s liquidity creation on real output.
Practical implications
For countries with tri-banking system, only HCBs’ and FIBs’ liquidity creation spurs real output. However, for countries with dual banking system, liquidity created by both FIBs and PCBs fosters real output. However, only liquidity created by tri-banking system has a unidirectional Granger causality with real output.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that examines the impact of the banking subsystem liquidity creation on real economic output. Examining the impact of the liquidity created by this banking subsystem on the real economy is important for both regulators and policymakers.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to review the information management aspects of the early months of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) coronavirus 19 outbreak. It shows that the transition from epidemic to the pandemic was caused partly by poor management of information that was publicly available in January 2020.
Design/methodology/approach
The approach combines public domain epidemic data with economic, demographic, health, social and political data and investigates how information was managed by governments. It includes case studies of early-stage information management, from countries with high and low coronavirus disease 2019 impacts (as measured by deaths per million).
Findings
The reasons why the information was not acted upon appropriately include “dark side” information behaviours (Stone et al., 2019). Many errors and misjudgements could have been avoided by using learnings from previous epidemics, particularly the 1918-1919 flu epidemic when international travel (mainly of troops in First World War) was a prime mode of spreading. It concludes that if similar outbreaks are not to turn into pandemics, much earlier action is needed, mainly closing borders and locking-down.
Research limitations/implications
The research is based on what was known at the time of writing, when the pandemic’s exact origin was uncertain, when some statistics about actions and results were unavailable and when final results were unknown.
Practical implications
Governments faced with early warning signs or pandemics must act much faster.
Social implications
If the next virus is as infectious as SARS-CoV-2 but much more fatal, the world faces disastrous consequences if most governments act as slowly as this time.
Originality/value
This is one of the first analyses of information management practices relating to the pandemic’s early stages.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the impact of market orientation on small and medium-sizedenterprises (SMEs) innovativeness in Yemen.
Design/methodology/approach
The study uses empirical data collected from 206 managers, owners and operators of SME in Sana'a. By using exploratory and quantitative methods, the collected data was examined using descriptive, correlation and regression analyses.
Findings
The results indicated that market orientation, as a whole, has a significant impact on SME innovativeness. Specifically, while the two dimensions – customer orientation and supplier orientation – have a significant impact on SME innovativeness, the other two dimensions – competitor and inter-functional coordination – do not have a significant impact on SME innovativeness.
Research limitations/implications
The study focuses only on four factors that have an influence over SME innovativeness based on the perspective of managers.
Practical implications
SMEs represent the largest portion of businesses in Yemen’s private sector. It is anticipated that the findings of this study will help SMEs’ owners and managers to better understand market orientation and the significant impact it has on SME innovativeness.
Originality/value
The value of this research work is evident from the fact that the market orientation models have neglected the part of suppliers (upstream supply chain) in generating superior value for customers, even though they have concentrated on the role of customers (downstream supply chain) and competitors.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to assess the public health risk factors of internally displaced households and suggest appropriate measures and strategies for health risk reduction in the context of IDPs.
Design/methodology/approach
The composite Index (CI) method was used to compare the public health risk factors at the household level in three IDP camps. A set of 22 indicators were studied in 326 households. Households were selected by using a two-stage cluster sampling technique.
Findings
The findings indicate that the Shangil Tobaya camp is at the highest risk for communicable diseases (63.6%) followed by Zamzam (52.4%) and Abu Shouk (42.7%) at the household level. Eight indicators appeared to have made differential impacts between Abu Shouk and Shangil Tobaya, these include: level of education, walking time to health facilities, water source, latrines type, safe disposal of child feces, frequency of visit by pregnant women to antenatal care services, place of delivery and women delivering their children with the help of skilled birth attendants.
Research limitations/implications
Since the selection criteria of the camps were predefined; there are variations in the number of samples between the camps. Therefore, the generalizability may be compromised.
Social implications
Increased access to healthcare services particularly reproductive health services to the most vulnerable groups (women). Community involvement in services management to promote ownership.
Originality/value
The methods used in this study is original and flexible and can be replicated for other emergency areas and risks.

The purpose of the paper is to showcase the significant achievements of Egypt's scientists in the 20th century across various fields of study such as medicine, physics, chemistry, biology, math, geology, astronomy and engineering. The paper highlights the struggles and successes of these scientists, as well as the cultural, social and political factors that influenced their lives and work. The aim is to inspire young people to pursue careers in science and make their own contributions to society by presenting these scientists as role models for hard work and dedication. Ultimately, the paper seeks to promote the importance of science and its impact on society.
Design/methodology/approach
The purpose of this review is to present the scientific biographies of Egypt's most distinguished scientists, primarily in the field of Natural Sciences, in a balanced and comprehensive manner. The work is objective, honest and abstract, avoiding any bias or exaggeration. The author provides a clear and concise methodology, including a brief introduction to the scientist and their field of study, an explanation of their major contributions, the impact of their work on society, any challenges or obstacles faced during their career and their lasting legacy. The aim is to showcase the important achievements of these scientists, their impact on their respective fields and to inspire future generations to pursue scientific careers.
Findings
The group of outstanding scientists in 20th century Egypt were shaped by various factors, including familial upbringing, education, society, political and cultural atmosphere and state support for scientific research. The encyclopedia honours the outstanding scientific accomplishments of Egyptian researchers and their contributions to the world's scientific community.

Abstract
Purpose
Using the transportation theory, and the brand equity model, this study aims to examine how short video narratives from a tourist perspective increased brand equity dimensions which could lead to intention to patronise. Further, the study tested the moderating role of real-world video between the brand equity dimensions and intention to patronise.
Design/methodology/approach
A sequential explanatory mixed method is adopted for this study. An empirical study was conducted in the first phase with 1,119 participants. In the second phase, the quantitative results were used to develop a semi-structured interview guide for in-depth interviews with 9 respondents to validate the quantitative outcomes. The structural equation modelling technique was utilised to analyse the quantitative data, whereas content analysis was used for the qualitative data.
Findings
The results revealed that short video narratives lead to horti-awareness, image and value. Additionally, horti-awareness, and value had a significant impact on intention to patronise horti-tourism destinations. Another interesting observation is that the negative perceived quality might be as a result of the short video emanating from a tourist perspective. Importantly, potential tourists perceived the real-world video to be authentic, thus strengthening the relationship between the brand equity dimensions and intention to patronise.
Practical implications
This research provided valuable insights for marketers/management and stakeholders within the tourism and hospitality sector to achieve benefits derived from the findings of the study.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors knowledge, this study is the first attempt to embed the theory of transportation and the brand equity model in understanding horti-tourism destinations, which can rarely be found in extant literature.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper sought to examine the factors that influence intention to recommend, focussing on the extension of the theory of planned behaviour in halal tourism, with additional instruments such as halal safety and security, and trustworthiness of halal information.
Design/methodology/approach
Guided by a quantitative approach, cross-sectional data were collected using 394 Muslim diaspora tourists. The analysis technique used in this study is the partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).
Findings
The results suggest that halal planned behaviour may account for the intention to recommend. Halal attitude, subjective norm, halal image, halal value, halal safety and security, and trustworthiness of halal information positively and significantly affect intention to recommend.
Practical implications
Muslim diaspora tourists are identified to have halal planned behaviour on intention to recommend. Hence, destination managers and practitioners are suggested to develop proactive halal products and services that appeal to tourists' intention to recommend.
Originality/value
This study has developed two new constructs: halal safety and security, and the trustworthiness of halal information grounded on the theory of planned behaviour in halal tourism. Specifically, the focus is on Muslim diasporic tourists' perspective in a non-Islamic context.

Purpose
Nonprofit organisations (NPOs) are challenged with continuous change, which provides the impetus for adopting organisational change models. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of the adoption of market and learning orientations on NPO performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors draw on extant management literature to theorise the interrelationship between market orientation, learning orientation, and economic and non‐economic NPO performance. Using a survey design, the authors draw a convenience sample of 118 NPOs in Ghana to test their theoretisation.
Findings
Evidence is found that although the relationship between market orientation and NPO performance is significant (on both economic and non‐economic indicators), what best accounts for enhanced performance is learning orientation. Additionally, non‐economic performance mediates the relationship between learning orientation and economic performance.
Research limitations/implications
Replicating the study with larger samples, using objective performance data, and applying more rigorous approach to data analysis, among other things, could significantly improve the generalisability of the results.
Practical implications
NPO managers are reminded that non‐economic performance (e.g. service or program effectiveness) represents part of the underlying mechanism through which the financial assurances of market and learning orientations can be exploited.
Originality/value
The paper builds on the market orientation literature by theorising and demonstrating empirically a route through which market orientation is related to the firm's financial performance.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this study is to examine how market orientation, innovation, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) jointly impact business performance.
Design/methodology/approach
This study adopts a quantitative research design. Research evidence was collected via a questionnaire‐based survey of marketing managers and executives of telecommunication companies in Ghana. The hypotheses developed following a review of scholarship on marketing, strategy and corporate citizenship were tested through regression analysis.
Findings
The results indicate that firms' degree of market orientation and CSR have significant impact on innovation, which then influences business performance. Furthermore, market orientation has direct significant effect on CSR, which tends to mediate the influence of market orientation on business performance.
Research limitations/implications
The use of longitudinal research that combines managers' evaluation with a survey of consumers, employees, and other relevant stakeholders is suggested to confirm the results of this study.
Practical implications
This study suggests that innovation and CSR are two key ingredients for transforming market orientation into a successful business strategy. Managers are to note that even “doing good” (a CSR initiative) requires a sense of innovation for it to trigger any significant financial performance for the business.
Originality/value
This study introduces a model in which the relationship between CSR, market orientation, and performance is mediated by innovation. The empirical evidence enhances the existing literature on marketing, corporate citizenship, and strategy.
