Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the fundamental solution in transversely isotropic micropolar thermoelastic media. With this objective, the two-dimensional general solution in transversely isotropic thermoelastic media is derived.
Design/methodology/approach
On the basis of the general solution, the fundamental solution for a steady point heat source on the surface of a semi-infinite transversely isotropic micropolar thermoelastic material is constructed by six newly introduced harmonic functions.
Findings
The components of displacement, stress, temperature distribution and couple stress are expressed in terms of elementary functions. From the present investigation, a special case of interest is also deduced and compared with the previous results obtained.
Practical implications
Fundamental solutions can be used to construct many analytical solutions of practical problems when boundary conditions are imposed. They are essential in the boundary element method as well as the study of cracks, defects and inclusions.
Originality/value

Abstract
Purpose
A model of the equations of two-dimensional problems in a half space, whose surface in free of micropolar thermoelastic medium possesses cubic symmetry as a result of a mode-I crack is studied. There acts an initial magnetic field parallel to the plane boundary of the half-space. The crack is subjected to prescribed temperature and stress distribution. The formulation in the context of the Lord-Shulman theory includes one relaxation time and Green-Lindsay theory with two relaxation times, as well as the classical dynamical coupled theory. The paper aims to discuss these issues.
Design/methodology/approach
The normal mode analysis is used to obtain the exact expressions for the displacement, microrotation, stresses and temperature distribution.
Findings
The variations of the considered variables with the horizontal distance are illustrated graphically. Comparisons are made with the results in the presence of magnetic field.
Originality/value
A comparison is also made between the three theories for different depths in 3D plots.

Abstract
Purpose
The dual-phase-lag (DPL) model is applied to study the effect of the gravity field and micropolarity on the wave propagation in a two-temperature generalized thermoelastic problem for a medium. The paper aims to discuss this issue.
Design/methodology/approach
The exact expressions of the considered variables are obtained by using normal mode analysis.
Findings
Numerical results for the field quantities are given in the physical domain and illustrated graphically to show the effect of angle of inclination. Comparisons of the physical quantities are also shown in figure to study the effect of gravity and two-temperature parameter.
Originality/value
This paper is concerned with the analysis of transient wave phenomena in a micropolar thermoelastic half-space subjected to inclined load. The governing equations are formulated in the context of two-temperature generalized thermoelasticity theory with DPLs. A medium is assumed to be initially quiescent and under the effect of gravity. An analytical solution of the problem is obtained by employing normal mode analysis. Numerical estimates of displacement, stresses and temperatures are computed for magnesium crystal-like material and are illustrated graphically. Comparisons of the physical quantities are shown in figures to study the effects of gravity, two-temperature parameter and angle of inclination. Some particular cases of interest have also been inferred from the present problem.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the phase-lag models (Lord-Shulman, dual-phase-lag and three-phase-lag) to study the effect of memory-dependent derivative and the influence of thermal loading due to laser pulse on the wave propagation of generalized micropolar thermoelasticity. The bounding plane surface is heated by a non-Gaussian laser beam with a pulse duration of 10 nanoseconds.
Design/methodology/approach
The normal mode analysis technique is used to obtain the exact expressions for the displacement components, the force stresses, the temperature, the couple stresses and the micro-rotation. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by three theories of the authors’ interest. Excellent predictive capability is demonstrated at a different time also.
Findings
The effect of memory-dependent derivative and the heat laser pulse on the displacement, the temperature distribution, the components of stress, the couple stress and the microrotation vector have been depicted graphically.
Research limitations/implications
Some particular cases are also deduced from the present investigation.
Originality/value
The numerical results are presented graphically and are compared with different three theories for both in the presence and absence of memory-dependent effect and with the results predicted under three theories for two different values of the time.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the propagation of plane waves in an isotropic elastic medium under the effect of rotation, magnetic field and temperature-dependent properties with two‐temperatures.
Design/methodology/approach
The problem has been solved analytically by using the normal mode analysis.
Findings
The numerical results are given and presented graphically when mechanical and thermal force are applied. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by the three-phase-lag (3PHL) model and dual-phase-lag model in the presence and absence of cases where the modulus of elasticity is independent of temperature.
Originality/value
In this work, the authors study the influence of rotation and magnetic field with two‐temperature on thermoelastic isotropic medium when the modulus of elasticity is taken as a linear function of reference temperature in the context of the 3PHL model. The numerical results for the field quantities are obtained and represented graphically.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study a model of the equations of a two-dimensional problem in a half space, whose surface in a free micropolar thermoelastic medium possesses cubic symmetry as a result of inclined load. The problem is formulated in the context of Green-Naghdi theory of type II (G-N II) (without energy dissipation) and of type III (G-N III) (with energy dissipation) under the effect of magnetic field.
Design/methodology/approach
The normal mode analysis is used to obtain the exact expressions of the physical quantities.
Findings
The numerical results are given and presented graphically when the inclined load and magnetic field are applied. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by G-N theory of both types II and III in the presence and absence of the magnetic field and for different values of the angle of inclination.
Originality/value
In the present work, the authors study the influence of inclined load and magnetic field in a micropolar thermoelastic medium in the context of the G-N theory of both types II and III. Numerical results for the field quantities are obtained and represented graphically.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to study the axisymmetric problem in a micropolar porous thermoelastic circular plate with dual phase lag model by employing eigenvalue approach subjected to thermomechanical sources.
Design/methodology/approach
The Laplace and Hankel transforms are employed to obtain the expressions for displacements, microrotation, volume fraction field, temperature distribution and stresses in the transformed domain. A numerical inversion technique has been carried out to obtain the resulting quantities in the physical domain. Effect of porosity and phase lag on the resulting quantities has been presented graphically. The results obtained for Lord Shulman theory (L-S, 1967) and coupled theory of thermoelasticity are presented as the particular cases.
Findings
The variation of temperature distribution is similar for micropolar thermoelastic with dual (MTD) phase lag model and coupled theory of thermoelasticity. The variation is also similar for tangential couple stress for MTD and L-S theory but opposite to couple theory. The behavior of volume fraction field and tangential couple stress for L-S theory and coupled theory are observed opposite. The values of all the resulting quantities are close to each other away from the sources. The variation in tangential stress, tangential couple stress and temperature distribution is more uniform.
Originality/value
The results are original and new because the authors presented an eigenvalue approach for two dimensional problem of micropolar porous thermoelastic circular plate with dual phase lag model. A comparison of porosity, L-S theory and coupled theory of micropolar thermoelasticity is made. Such problem has applications in material science, industries and earthquake problems.

Design/methodology/approach
The analytical method used was the normal mode analysis technique.
Findings
Numerical results for the physical quantities were presented graphically and analyzed. The graphical results indicate that the effect of rotation, initial stress and magnetic fields are observable physical effects on the thermoelastic material with voids heated by a laser pulse. Comparisons are made with the results in the absence and the presence of the physical operators, also at various times.
Originality/value
In the present work, the authors shall investigate the effect of the rotation, initial stress, magnetic field and laser pulse on thermoelastic material with voids subjected to a laser pulse heating acting as a thermal shock. A comparison is also made between the two types (types II and III) of Green-Naghdi theory in the absence and the presence of the physical operators. Such problems are very important in many dynamical systems.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of the present paper is to investigate the thermo-mechanical interactions in an initially stressed nonlocal micropolar thermoelastic half-space having void pores under Lord–Shulman model. A moving thermal shock is applied to the formulation.
Design/methodology/approach
The normal mode technique is adopted to obtain the exact expressions of the physical quantities.
Findings
Numerical computations for stresses, displacement components, temperature field and change in the volume fraction field are performed for suitable material and are depicted graphically. Some comparisons have been shown in figures to estimate the effects of micropolarity, initial stress, voids, nonlocal parameter and time on the resulting quantities.
Originality/value
The exact expressions for the displacement components, stresses, temperature and change in the volume fraction field are obtained in the physical domain. Although numerous investigations do exist to observe the disturbances in a homogeneous, isotropic, initially stressed, micropolar thermoelastic half-space, the work in its current form has not been established by any scholar till now. The originality of the present work lies in the formulation of a fresh research problem to investigate the dependence of different physical fields on nonlocality parameters, micropolarity, initial stress, porosity and time due to the application of a moving thermal shock.
