Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to assess steady, two-dimensional natural convection flow of a viscoelastic, incompressible, electrically conducting and optically thick heat-radiating nanofluid over a linearly stretching sheet in the presence of uniform transverse magnetic field taking Dufour and Soret effects into account.

Design/methodology/approach

The governing boundary layer equations are transformed into a set of highly non-linear ordinary differential equations using suitable similarity transforms. Finite element method is used to solve this boundary value problem. Effects of pertinent flow parameters on the velocity, temperature, solutal concentration and nanoparticle concentration are described graphically. Also, effects of pertinent flow parameters on the shear stress, rate of heat transfer, rate of solutal concentration and rate of nanoparticle concentration at the sheet are discussed with the help of numerical values presented in graphical form. All numerical results for mono-diffusive nanofluid are compared with those of double-diffusive nanofluid.

Findings

Numerical results obtained in this paper are compared with earlier published results and are found to be in excellent agreement. Viscoelasticity, magnetic field and nanoparticle buoyancy parameter tend to enhance the wall velocity gradient, whereas thermal buoyancy force has a reverse effect on it. Radiation, Brownian and thermophoretic diffusions tend to reduce wall temperature gradient, whereas viscoelasticity has a reverse effect on it. Nanofluid Lewis number tends to enhance wall nanoparticle concentration gradient.

Originality/value

Study of this problem may find applications in engineering and biomedical sciences,e.g. in cooling and process industries and in cancer therapy.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore the flow of Cu-water and Ag-water nanofluids past a vertical Riga plate. The plate is infinite in height and has zero normal wall flux through its surface. Influence of thermal radiation, slip, suction and chemical reaction on the flow characteristics are reported.

Design/methodology/approach

Non-dimensional forms of the flow governing equations are obtained by means of a set of similarity transformations. Numerical solution is obtained with the help of fourth-fifth-order Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method with shooting procedure. Comparison of solution profiles of Cu-water and Ag-water nanofluids are presented graphically and with the help of tables. Influence of pertinent parameters on skin friction and heat transfer rate is also reported.

Findings

Results reveal that the skin friction coefficient is more prominent in the case of Ag-water nanofluid for an increase in thermal radiation and volume fraction. The role of suction and slip is to increase velocity but decrease the temperature in both nanofluids. Temperature and velocity of both nanofluids increase as volume fraction and thermal radiation values are augmented. Heat transport increases with thermal radiation. Region near the plate experiences rise in nanoparticle concentration with an increase in chemical reaction parameter.

Originality/value

A complete investigation of the modeled problem is addressed and the results of this paper are original.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore operation influencing factors of mining. To collect gaps of study and to form a thematic representation of principal influencing factors and their unique influencing factors.

Design/methodology/approach

Articles were collected from different sources from 1974 to 2019 consisting of research articles, technical papers, expert blogs, working papers and conference papers covering various disciplines from psychology, human resource, finance and economics to mining engineering. Mining operation influencing factors were noted down. Four massively deposed mines were visited to observe the sequence of mining process. The field experts were also consulted to identify factors influencing their respected industry. Gaps were observed while comparing with the reviewed articles and opinions of field experts. Finally, senior experts were consulted to identify unique factors from the final list prepared and a framework of seven thematic categories consisting of unique factors was formulated.

Findings

A total of 197 sub-factors were collected from literature review and 2 sub-factors from Indian Mining experts during field study. These 199 sub-factors were initially categorised as 48 factors and one more factor was collected from Indian field experts. Finally, these 49 factors were thematically represented as principal factors and termed as operation, marketing and management, human resource, finance, resource and utility, corporate affairs and corporate social responsibility and environment.

Research limitations/implications

This study can be very helpful in the direction of different qualitative and quantitative studies, as the factors and sub-factors groups are identified.

Originality/value

The paper fulfils an identified need to provide a holistic review for understanding and documenting principal factors, unique factors and sub-factors those influence mining operation, profitability or sustainability issues of mines.

Abstract

Purpose

The present study aims to identify and investigate the antecedents of enhanced level of cyber-security at the organisational level from both the technical and the human resource perspective using human–organisation–technology (HOT) theory.

Design/methodology/approach

The study has been conducted on 151 professionals who have expertise in dealing with cyber-security in organisations in sectors such as retail, education, healthcare, etc. in India. The analysis of the data is carried out using partial least squares based structural equation modelling technique (PLS-SEM).

Findings

The results from the study suggest that “legal consequences” and “technical measures” adopted for securing cyber-security in organisations are the most important antecedents for enhanced cyber-security levels in the organisations. The other significant antecedents for enhanced cyber-security in organisations include “role of senior management” and “proactive information security”.

Research limitations/implications

This empirical study has significant implications for organisations as they can take pre-emptive measures by focussing on important antecedents and work towards enhancing the level of cyber-security.

Originality/value

The originality of this research is combining both technical and human resource perspective in identifying the determinants of enhanced level of cyber-security in the organisations.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of non-linear thermal radiation, Joule heating and viscous dissipation on the mixed convection boundary layer flow of MHD nanofluid flow over a thin moving needle.

Design/methodology/approach

The equations directing the flow are reduced into ODEs by implementing similarity transformation. The Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg method with a shooting technique was implemented.

Findings

Numerical outcomes for the coefficient of skin friction and the rate of heat transfer are tabulated and discussed. Also, the boundary layer thicknesses for flow and temperature fields are addressed with the aid of graphs.

Originality/value

Till now, no numerical study investigated the combined influence of Joule heating, non-linear thermal radiation and viscous dissipation on the mixed convective MHD flow of silver-water nanofluid flow past a thin moving needle. The numerical results for existing work are new and their novelty verified by comparing them with the work published earlier.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine the velocity and temperature profile for a two-dimensional flow of single- and multi-walled nanotubes (CNTs)/H2O nanofluid over a flat porous plate, under the impact of non-uniform heat sink/source and radiation. The influence of suction/blowing, viscous dissipation and magnetic field is also incorporated.

Design/methodology/approach

The solution of the PDEs describing the flow of nanofluid is accomplished using Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg approach with shooting scheme.

Findings

Quantities of physical importance such as local Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient for both types of nanotubes are computed and shown in tables. Also, the impact of copious factors like Prandtl number, magnetic field, Eckert number, porosity parameter, radiation parameter, non-linear stretching parameter, injection/suction, heating variable, particle volume fraction and non-uniform heat sink/source parameter on temperature and velocity profile is explained in detail with the aid of graphs.

Originality/value

Till date, no study has been reported that examines the role of radiation and non-uniform heat sink/source on MHD flow of CNTs‒water nanofluid over a porous plate. The numerical outcomes attained for the existing work are original and their originality is authenticated by comparing them with earlier published work. This problem is of importance, as there are many applications of the fluid flowing over a flat porous plate.

Abstract

Purpose

Supplier selection for capital procurement is a major strategic decision for any automobile company. The decision determines the success of the company and must be taken systematically with the utmost transparency. The purpose of this paper is to construct capital procurement decision-making model to optimize supplier selection in the Indian automobile industry.

Design/methodology/approach

To achieve the stated objective, a combined approach of fuzzy theory and AHP-DEMATEL is applied. Evaluation parameters are identified through an extensive literature review and criteria validation has been introduced through a Fuzzy Delphi method by using fuzzy linguistic scales to handle the vagueness of information. AHP is employed to find the priority weight of criteria, although an inter-relationship map among criteria is not possible through AHP alone since it considers all criteria as independent. To overcome this, DEMATEL is used to establish cause-effect relationships among criteria.

Findings

The results show that the total cost of ownership (TOC) is the first weighted criterion in supplier selection for capital procurement, followed by manufacturing flexibility and maintainability, then conformity with requirement. The cause-effect model shows that supplier profile, TOC, service support and conformity with requirement are in the cause group and are considered to be the most critical factors in selecting the supplier.

Originality/value

The study’s outcome can help the automobile industry to optimize their selection process in selecting their suppliers for capital procurement; the proposed model can provide guidelines and direction in this regard.

The solutions obtained here are examined for different cases of non-linearity and are found sufficiently accurate.

Originality/value

The manuscript provide the non-variational solution for Plateau’s problem. Thus it has a good value in engineering application.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of present study is to identify influential aspects of published literature, research streams and future research questions to set forth future research agenda based on comprehensive literature review using bibliometric and content analysis.

Design/methodology/approach

The study analyzed 285 documents from the international Scopus database using bibliometric analysis and content analysis. VOSviewer software is used for bibliometric analysis.

Findings

The study identified influential aspects of published literature; identified five significant research streams: (1) Demonetization and financial system, (2) Demonetization and financial technology, (3) Demonetization and financial market, (4) Demonetization and digital payment system and (5) Demonetization and governance and proposed 27 key future research questions to develop future research agenda.

Practical implications

The present study makes significant contribution to the literature by providing a framework for future research. The framework provides opportunities to future researchers to explore the web of relations among five identified research streams as future research agenda.

Originality/value

The present work is unique in its way of contribution, as to the best of researchers' knowledge no work was witnessed in published literature to cover demonetization in a detailed and comprehensive manner. The present study fills this gap by conducting bibliometric analysis and content analysis. The study proposed conceptual framework for demonetization characterization to understand the demonetization literature well; and also proposed framework for future researcher to be explored further.

Abstract

Data, either in primary or secondary form, represent the core strength of quantitative research. However, there is significant difference between collected data and the final researchable data. The data collection is driven by objectives of the research. The data also could be in various formats at different sources. The collected data in its original form may contain systematic and random errors. Such errors need to be cleaned from the data which is termed as data cleaning process.

The present chapter discusses about the different methodologies and steps that may be helpful for fine tuning the data into researchable format. The discussions are instantiated with the applications of methodologies on a set of financial data of companies listed in Bombay Stock Exchange. Various steps involved in transformation of collected data to researchable data are presented. A schematic model including data collection, data cleaning, working with variables, outlier treatment, testing the assumption of statistical test, normality, and heteroscedasticity is presented for the benefit of research scholars. Beyond this generic model, this paper focuses exclusively on financial data of listed companies in the Bombay Stock Exchange. The challenges involved in various sources, data gathering and other pre-analysis stages are also considered. This is also applicable for research based on secondary data sources in other fields as well.
