Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to develop a performance evaluation model for the operations of the supply chain of an organization of the refrigeration equipment sector. The tool must aid the decision maker in the performance improvement and creation of competitive advantages.
Design/methodology/approach
The study adopts a mixture of qualitative and quantitative approaches and applies them through a case study. The data collection was conducted through unstructured interviews and supplemented by documentary research. The applied intervention instrument is the Multicriteria Decision Aid – Constructivist (MCDA-C).
Findings
Identification, organization, ordinal and cardinal measurement and integration of the aspects of the context judged as relevant by the decision maker. In addition, it can be highlighted the current situation diagnosis and elaboration of improvement actions related to lean philosophy and advanced planning systems.
Practical implications
The developed model is being used to aid the decision maker in their decisions concerning the improvement of the supply chain operations.
Originality/value
The main contributions made by the paper resides in the proposal of solutions for fulfiling gaps identified within the supply chain performance evaluation area and in the application of the MCDA-C to a practical case.

Objetivo
El objetivo de este artículo es desarrollar un Modelo de Desempeño para las operaciones de cadena de suministro de una organización en el sector de equipos de refrigeración. La herramienta debe ayudar a quién toma las decisiones en mejorar el desempeño y crear ventajas competitivas.
Diseño/metodología/enfoque
El estudio usa una combinación de enfoques cualitativos y cuantitativos aplicándolos a un caso estudio. La recolección de datos se hizo a través de entrevistas no estructuradas y se complementó con investigación documental. El instrumento de intervención usado es el Multicriterio De Apoyo a la Decisión-Constructivista (MCDA-C).
Hallazgos
Identificación, organización, mediciones ordinales y cardinales e integración de los aspectos de los contextos considerados como relevantes por el tomador de decisiones. Se puede destacar además la situación actual de diagnóstico y la elaboración de acciones de mejoramiento relacionados con la filosofía Lean y los Sistemas avanzados de planificación.
Implicaciones prácticas
El modelo desarrollado esta siendo usado para ayudar al toma decisiones en las decisiones concernientes con el mejoramiento de las operaciones de la cadena de suministro.
Originalidad/valor
La mayor contribución hecha por este artículo reside en proponer soluciones para cubrir brechas identificadas dentro el área de Evaluación de Rendimiento en la Cadena de Suministro y en la aplicación del MCDA-C a un caso práctico.

Objetivo
O objetivo de este artigo é desenvolver um Modelo de Avaliação Desempenho para as operações da cadeia de suprimentos de uma organização do setor de equipamentos de refrigeração. O modelo proposto deve ajudar o tomador de decisões a melhorar o desempenho e criar vantagens competitivas.
Desenho/metodologia/enfoque
O estudo faz uso de uma abordagem qualitativa e quantitativa aplicada em um Estudo de Caso. A coleta dos dados foi feita por meio de entrevistas abertas, sendo complementada por pesquisa documental. O instrumento de intervenção usado é o Multicriteria Decision Aid – Constructivist (MCDA-C).
Achados
Identificação, organização, medições ordinais e cardinais, e integração dos aspectos do contexto são considerados como relevantes para o tomador de decisões. Além disso, destacam-se o diagnóstico da situação atual e a elaboração de ações de aperfeiçoamento, nas quais se avaliam os efeitos da implementação da Filosofia Enxuta e de um Sistema de Planejamento Avançado na organização.
Implicações práticas
O modelo desenvolvido auxilia o tomador de decisões nas decisões concernentes ao melhoramento das operações da cadeia de suprimentos.
Originalidade/valor
As principais contribuições do artigo residem na proposição de melhorias em lacunas ainda presentes na avaliação do desempenho da cadeia de suprimentos e também na aplicação da MCDA-C em um caso prático.

Abstract
Purpose
In this study, the performance assessment of credit unions is developed, seeking to demonstrate how the content of their operations strategy is present in the structuring of unique models of organisational performance assessment. The main objective is to compare sources of knowledge through the content analysis of the service operations strategy as proposed by the literature and validated by specialists.
Design/methodology/approach
This research is a qualitative study that uses the knowledge of specialists to frame a performance assessment structure applied to credit unions. The research strategy is based on multicriteria analysis, and the selected techniques are based on the MCDA-C procedure, that is, the processes of structuring, evaluating and recommending improvements.
Findings
The research results provided: a data set external to the context that serves as theoretical support for the comparisons made; the structuring of 4 unique organisational performance assessment models carried out through the MCDA-C procedure; conceptual interpretation using the lens of the operations strategy in the cognitive maps of the assessment models, which identifies the operations strategy carried out; and comparison of the result models that show their uniqueness.
Originality/value
The comparison between the origins of knowledge is highlighted, and the demonstration of the content was proposed by the literature and by specialists to evaluate the performance in operations. This was then compared with the content constructed with credit union managers in structuring models based on the singularities of the respective contexts. The theory was compared to practice, and it was demonstrated how the content of the operations regarding the performance could be used in decision contexts.

Abstract
Purpose
Identify the criteria/KPIs to support managers during human resource allocation based on knowledge demand, which serves as a decision support tool to help maintain organizational competitiveness.
Design/methodology/approach
Human resource allocation in a project management model, based on knowledge demand and using a multi‐criteria decision aiding method as an intervention instrument.
Findings
Three major areas of concern were identified. In all, 76 KPIs to explain concerns associated with the values of the manager, and develop cardinal and ordinal scales for each descriptor and integrate compensation rate. Further, he was allowed to implement and evaluate the current performance of the analyzed engineer, with 44 points on a cardinal scale, and provide a model with improved actions that raised his assessment to 55,67.
Originality/value
The Multi‐Criteria Decision Aiding‐Constructivist methodology (MCDA‐C) emerges as a traditional MCDA method to support decision makers in the contexts where they have a partial understanding and wish to increase their knowledge of the consequences of their values and preferences. In addition, these managers will also need to utilize time management, as people issues in the place of other functions have been highlighted in numerous published articles over how the management of human resource allocation can influence the competitive performances of an organization.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to support the management of organizational knowledge retention through a multi-criteria decision aiding–constructivist model.
Design/methodology/approach
This exploratory and descriptive case study presents a decision support model guided by the constructivist approach and proactive in its operationalization.
Findings
The objectives and concerns of decision-makers regarding the retention of organizational knowledge are identified and organized into six strategic areas of concern, namely, recognition, knowledge dissemination, organizational culture, succession of professionals, management of vulnerability origins and knowledge management; a multi-criteria model is constructed and operationalized by a cluster of cardinal scales, showing and measuring the status quo of the performance profile, both in a local and global way, to support the management of the organization's knowledge retention; activities are classified into three performance levels (compromising, competitive and excellent), supported by graphical and numerical evidence; and the process to generate actions to improve the performance of critical activities and create the conditions to maximize the results of the organization is illustrated.
Practical implications
Based on the model, decision-makers are now aware of the essential aspects to support knowledge retention management, enabling them to monitor the current situation and proactively respond to ensure that the current knowledge potential is maintained and exploited.
Originality/value
Use of a constructivist approach to support the management of knowledge retention, incorporating into the model the specifics of the context and the values of its managers, and thus giving it legitimacy.

Abstract
Purpose
The innovation expected by clients is identified as a business success factor of industrial companies in the current decade and the accountability of it is primarily attributable to Research and Development (R&D), which makes it a strategic topic for studies on the decision-making process. In light of this, the purpose of this paper is to present a decision aiding methodology used to support R&D management in the technology-based company, specialised in refrigeration solutions and world leader in the hermetic compressor market.
Design/methodology/approach
It is an exploratory study and has deductive-inductive logic and uses a quail-quantitative approach. It uses the Knowledge Development Process Constructivist (ProKnow-C) to systemically revise the literature surrounding the theme in order to identify research opportunities in the subject and adopts the Multi-Criteria Decision Aiding Constructivist (MCDA-C) methodology as an instrument of organisational performance evaluation to fulfil the research opportunities identified.
Findings
In the theoretical aspect, this research fulfilled the opportunities observed in recent and qualified literature about R&D performance evaluation. The paper also offers practical implications for the performance evaluation in R&D, since the methodology allowed the R&D manager to build knowledge to understand the consequences of his decisions in the criteria deemed important by himself.
Originality/value
The importance of this work covers academic and practical interests, as it documents the application of MCDA-C and increases knowledge concerning R&D management, whilst developing a recurrent tool of decision aiding in the context of the company studied.

The objective of this paper is to develop a methodology and a framework to assess performance measurement and generate a better understanding of the project context. The paper aims to present an application to illustrate the proposed methodology, to identify and measure the success parameters for a project.
Design/methodology/approach
The research method is a mixture of qualitative and quantitative and it is applied to a case study. The primary data were gathered using unstructured interviews with decision makers. Bibliographic research is used in order to construct the theoretical framework and the intervention instrument adopted is the multicriteria decision aiding methodology – constructivist (MCDA‐C).
Findings
The methodology makes it possible to visualize the criteria that must be taken into account according to the decision makers' values in the project selection process. The framework supports the ordinal and cardinal measurement of the project performance, making it possible to compare and rank proposals, as well providing a process to improve project proposals.
Practical implications
This process has helped in negotiations between stakeholders in the project, and, consequently, has helped the chief project officer to select and prioritize strategic projects within the demand for new products.
Originality/value
This paper offers an empirical understanding of the application of performance evaluation to project management and identifies a complementary tool in this interdisciplinary area.

Purpose
The aim of this paper is to present a framework to create a better understanding of the context and to aid the environmental disclosure management process. The paper seeks to present a case study illustrating the proposed methodology for assessing environmental disclosure management.
Design/methodology/approach
The ProKnow‐C process is used to identify the opportunities in the literature and the MCDA‐C methodology is used in order to build up the environmental disclosure management (MED) model.
Findings
First the ProKnow‐C process was used to identify opportunities in the literature about environmental disclosure and later the MCDA‐C methodology was used to discover the opportunities and to show a process for generating actions to promote improvement in environmental disclosure.
Practical implications
The case study allowed the manager to develop an understanding of environmental disclosure, showing that organizational performance is the key factor according to managers' perception. This knowledge allowed the manager to identify what the company needs to improve in its environmental disclosure regarding the following aspects: targets for using water, energy program, management of effluent and waste, biodiversity, adaptation to emergency plans, training and environmental awareness, expanding the coverage of the certification process and increasing operational performance in specific indicators relating to the electricity sector (pruning control, fire and oil spill).
Originality/value
The structured process of the MCDA‐C methodology enabled a model to be built that showed graphically and numerically the systemic diagnosis of environment disclosure, allowing the manager to know the consequences of a decision a priori and to suggest a set of improvement actions.

Abstract
Purpose
The study aims to analyze the previous literature on government initiatives to implement health information systems (HISs).
Design/methodology/approach
Proknow-C (Knowledge Development Process-Constructivist) was used in the selection of the literature and in the bibliometric and systematic analysis.
Findings
The research identified a portfolio composed of 33 articles aligned with the research theme and with scientific recognition, as well as periodicals, authors, papers and keywords that stood out the most. Amongst the government initiatives in the 24 identified countries, England has been the most studied nation, and there is a certain prominence of research arising from developed countries. Electronic health records (EHRs) have been the most explored technology. Efficiency and safety of health care delivery, integration of information and among health organizations, cost reduction and economicity are the most expected benefits from government programs. The difficulties found are related to the broader context in which the system is inserted, to the management of the program, to technology itself and to individuals. The most emphasized difficulties identified in most countries were previous context marked by a lack of standardization/interoperability, acceptance of providers and users and project financing. The findings of the present article provide a theoretical framework for future studies, in addition to yielding a replicable process for future use.
Originality/value
This research may be considered original as it analyzes – through a constructivism-structured process (Proknow-C) – the phenomenon under investigation by gathering bibliometric and systematic review data concomitantly. The countries and technologies reported emerge from the process itself.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide an integrated framework of complex relations among innovation characteristics, organizational capabilities, innovation potential and innovation performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The model is tested using partial least squares (PLS) modeling and 22 high- (96 respondents) and 16 (93 respondents) low-performing innovation projects from nine companies from the European industry.
Findings
The results show that the level of innovativeness of the project is an important determinant of product potential, whereas the complexity entailed in innovativeness entices integrative communication among innovation project team members. As expected, projects which are new to the company are related negatively to adequateness of the existing functional capabilities of the firm. The negative effects can be mitigated through integrative communication capabilities. Management can foster communication and knowledge integration through adequate databases and communication structures as well as social relations. Also, higher project potential and successful project performance can be attained through focus on product superiority and quality but also on speed of product introduction into the market.
Originality/value
An integrated framework which includes innovation characteristics, organizational capabilities which bring together project execution proficiency and synergy of firm capabilities with the innovation project, as well as innovation potential and performance is absent in the existing literature. The absence of an integrated framework may be the reason why still a large number of innovation projects result in failure. The emphasis on management of complexities in innovation in the paper requires the focus on the under-explored effect of innovativeness and newness of innovation projects on the functional and integrative communication capabilities of firms. While studies which focus on the synergy between firm capabilities and the innovation project regard mainly the functional capabilities, the inclusion of also the integrative communication capabilities allows the present paper to integrate the synergy view with the view that proficiency of project execution is decisive for innovation project performance (Harmancioglu et al., 2009).
