Abstract

When vibration test specialist Ling Dynamic Systems of Royston, Hertfordshire, designed a new linear‐bearing slip table concept, the principal requirement for successful operation centred on a substantial mating base for the table which would give long‐term structural integrity and a high level of internal damping.

Abstract

THE background to the importance of Ling Dynamic Systems (LDS) in the testing field can be found in the 1950s with the development of amplifiers and dynamic shakers. Although LDS itself was not formed until 1970, various technologies were being exploited in vibration testing which were put to good use in the company which is known worldwide for the manufacture of these systems. It has operated since that time as a wholly British‐owned organisation with a Paris office which was opened a short while afterwards. The company operates in the USA through its own subsidiary, LDS Inc, which has achieved a high growth rate in this market.

Abstract

IN 1983, Dowty Fuel Systems tendered for and won the contract for the design and manufacture of the after‐burner fuel contract unit (ABFCU) for the Garrett TFE 1042 turbofan, on the basis of their long experience in the development of hydromechanical aviation fuel metering systems. Garrett Engine Division is a leading US manufacturer of gas turbines for aircraft and helicopters and the TFE1042 turbofan was the designated propulsion system for Taiwan's new Ching‐Kuo fighter aircraft.

Abstract

A non‐directional beacon transmitter cabinet will be on show, part of the Decca NDB system which conforms to the relevant requirements of ICAO annex 10 and the appropriate sections of the ITU regulations. A feature of this equipment is its reliability due both to solid‐state construction throughout and, with the exception of the aerial and battery changeover relays, that no moving parts are employed. A wide variety of set‐ups are available to meet almost any weather condition or location specified. The company is also looking forward to the near completion of the third Japanese Decca Navigator Chain.

Abstract

The Seventh MD‐11 has flown — Wearing the colors of Delta Air Lines, the big McDonnell Douglas trijet accomplished a flawless first takeoff on September 5, 1990, from Long Beach Airport. The aircraft is the fifth trijet to join the MD‐11 flight test program in Yuma, Arizona, for evaluating flight crew workloads in simulated flight operations and testing the function and reliability of interior components

Abstract

The Ferritector model 1581 features a magneto resistor transducer and the active elements comprise a single integrated‐circuit amplifier mounted with other units on a printed circuit board. It measures the ferrite content of stainless steel with particular reference to the control of weld quality and possible degradation of neighbouring regions. It is check calibrated with plastic films interposed between the probe tip and a mild steel reference plate.
