Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper was to create conditions for the correct decision concerning an exchange of the used rope for a new one. A cognitive goal was to indicate the causes of its wear and determining its mechanism reliability and durability.

Design/methodology/approach

The magnetic, organoleptic and strength standard tests of lifting triangle-strand ropes of a mining hoist were carried out. This way the current state of the tested rope was defined.

Findings

On the basis of an analysis of the results of the performed tests: magnetic, organoleptic and fatigue tests, it can be said that the magnetic one is accurate enough only to indicate the place of the rope’s biggest weakening, though the degree of weakening is not defined precisely – with significant excess. The accurate rope’s destruction degree is indicated by the strength tests.

Practical implications

The results of described investigations can improve safety of the mining rope mechanisms operation, even for an increased resource.

Originality/value

The elementary wear processes, which are the basic reason for the destruction of the rope, are indicated. Rope destruction is caused mainly by tribological factors: abrasion, corrosion and fatigue wear. Magnetic tests are accurate enough only to indicate the place of the rope’s biggest weakening (qualitative index). Most precisely, the rope’s destruction degree (quantitative index) can be found by the strength tests.

Abstract

ON AVERAGE FIGURES, all coutries in the developed world (but, regrettably, not in the third world) are able to increase their national output year by year. Examined in isolation, statistics associated with such growth (e.g. output per worker) demonstrate a comforting trend — even though the vertical scales of graphics might have been selected with that purpose in mind! The simple step of making cross‐country comparisons can, however, quickly remove some of the complacency.

Abstract

Introduction Surveys of lift installations are required for many reasons. In some cases, the frequency of breakdowns and stoppages becomes so great that the occupants of the building require the cause to be established by an independent surveyor, who is unconnected with the lift company responsible for maintenance, or with the landlord. There is also the situation where, while there have been numerous breakdowns, the lift service is maintained overall, but with a consequently high maintenance premium, involving a steady stream of bills for repairs and replacement parts. In such cases, it is important to establish that the contractor's claims are justified and that he is not increasing his profits by preying on laymen's limited knowledge.

Abstract

Purpose

As the excessive lifting force can lead to catwalk rollover and well site accidents, the lifting process boundary conditions and structural parameters have a significant effect lifting force, it is important to analysis the structural parameters on the maximum lifting force in the lifting process of power catwalk.

Design/methodology/approach

A new model is proposed to analyze the influence of structure parameters on its lifting force for lifting power catwalk in this paper, and the geometric and dynamic equations are established according to the different boundary conditions in different stages. In addition, the establishment of dynamics equations is based on D'Alembert's principle. To solve the model, dynamic analysis software is developed, which uses c # call MATLAB to solve the geometric and dynamic equations. The maximum lifting force is analyzed and optimized according to the software, the influence of structural parameters on the maximum lifting force is obtained and the correctness of the optimization is proved by experiments.

Findings

The best value of offset e is 0. The length of L22 should as small as possible while the installation size of the end of the conveying arm are guaranteed. The length of L1 should as small as possible while ensuring the not exceed the maximum value. The maximum lifting force remain the same in the second phase, the maximum lifting force decreases with the increase of Lcp, Lcpshould as small as possible. The maximum pressure of the hydraulic oil dropped by an average of 13.62% under optimized parameters.

Practical implications

This paper provides a theoretical basis for the selection of hydraulic winch, which also provides the theoretical basis and data support for the design and optimization of the structural parameters of the power catwalk.

Social implications

This research has industrial applications in SJ Petroleum Machinery CO.LTD, SINOPEC (China) .CANRIG, North Rig, TESCO, Sichuan HONGHUA petroleum equipment CO.LTD of CNPC., Baoji Oil field Machinery CO.LTD, SJ Petroleum Machinery Co. LTD of SINOPEC, Yantai Jereh Oilfield Services Group CO.LTD, Nanyang clips oil equipment (group) CO. LTD, etc are the likely users.

Originality/value

A new model is proposed to analyze the lifting force of lifting power catwalk. The model takes into account the inertia force of the structure, development of dynamics software and analysis and optimization of structural parameters. The maximum lifting force is analyzed and optimized according to the software, the influence of structural parameters on the maximum lifting force is obtained and the correctness of the optimization is proved by experiments.

Abstract

One of the common law duties owed by the employer is his duty to take reasonable care for the safety of his employee. This common law duty is an implied term in the contract of employment and is therefore contractual in nature. Because of the difficulties which may arise in bringing an action in contract for breach of the employer's duty of care, the employee who has sustained injuries during the course of his employment (although he may sue either in contract of tort will normally bring a tort action.

Abstract

INDIRECTLY Management is probably more dependent upon the lubrication of office and public building machinery than in any other phase of industrial operations. In multi‐storey buildings the lift is the most obvious device. One uses it daily with reliance upon the speed, and relief from the stairs. BUT, there is other almost equally as important machinery, even though not quite so obvious. For example the heating and ventilating system along with possibly the air conditioning; the pumps, sometimes the power plant for steam heating or even auxiliary electric reserve; and the electric motors for power drives. All hidden as to location.
