Abstract
Purpose
Future is rarely explicitly addressed or problematized in business network research. This study aims to examine the possibilities of developing a business actor’s future orientation to network studies and imports ideas and concepts from futures research to support the development.
Design/methodology/approach
The study is conceptual and interdisciplinary. The authors critically analyze how extant studies grounded in the sensemaking view and process research approach integrate future time and how theoretical myopia hinders the adoption of a future orientation.
Findings
The prevailing future perspective is restricted to managers’ perceptions and actions at present, ignoring the anticipation and exploration of alternative longer-term futures. Future time is generally conceived as embedded in managers’ cognitive processes or is seen as part of the ongoing interaction, where the time horizon to the future is not noticed or is at best short.
Research limitations/implications
To enable a forward-looking perspective, researchers should move the focus from expectation building in business interaction to purposeful preparation of alternative future(s) and from the view of seeing future as enacted in the present to envisioning of both near-term and more distant futures.
Practical implications
This study addresses the growing need of business actors to anticipate future developments in the rapidly changing market conditions and to innovate and change business practices to save the planet for future generations.
Originality/value
This study elaborates on actors’ future orientation to business markets and networks, proposes the integration of network research concepts with concepts from futures studies and poses new types of research questions for future research.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this research is to conceptualize, define and measure resource orchestration capabilities of R&D teams pursuing advanced scientific research and technological innovation at public-funded R&D organizations in India.
Design/methodology/approach
A series of five mutually exclusive studies were designed over two years to develop and validate the ROCI scale within public research and development (R&D) organizations pursuing advanced scientific research and technological development in India. The first three studies address the refinement, reduction and rationalization of items for measuring the ROCI construct. The next study explores the factor structure underlying the ROCI construct whereas the subsequent one confirms the three-factor structure within empirical settings.
Findings
The resource orchestration capability towards innovation (ROCI) construct reflected through three sub-dimensions namely – adaptive structuring capability (ASC), synergistic leveraging capability (SLC) and decentralized decision-making capability (DDC), each loaded with their respective items can be used for capability measurement in public-funded R&D organizations.
Practical implications
R&D managers can use this ROCI scale to measure, monitor and improve the innovation-oriented resource orchestration capabilities of their R&D teams and help them improve their innovation performance.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the extant literature on resource orchestration for innovation management in three unique and original ways – theoretically-grounded conceptualization, empirical measurement and rigorous validation through multiple studies conducted in public-funded R&D organizations in India.

Abstract
Purpose
Augmentation of an ISO 10001 code system for healthcare worker (HW) satisfaction with ISO/IEC 27701 and ISO/IEC 29184 privacy-related subsystems is shown. Four specific codes regarding the privacy of HWs using electronic devices for hand hygiene (HH) monitoring and the related activities are presented.
Design/methodology/approach
HWs’ concerns involving automated hand hygiene monitoring technologies were identified through a literature review and classified. Privacy codes (PCs) that deal with such concerns were developed. ISO/IEC 27701 requirements for privacy information were mapped to the elements of these codes, labelled as “Healthcare Workers’ Hand Hygiene Privacy Codes (HW-HH-PCs)”. Both ISO/IEC 27701 and ISO/IEC 29184 guidelines for Privacy Notices and consent were linked with the activities for preparing the code resources.
Findings
Components of an ISO/IEC 27701 system, the guidance of ISO/IEC 29184 and the definitions provided in ISO/IEC 29100 can assist the preparation of HW-HH-PCs and the required resources. An ISO/IEC 29184 Privacy Notice can be used as input for developing an Informed Consent Form, which can be implemented to suit two of the four developed HW-HH-PCs.
Practical implications
HW-HH-PCs and the supporting resources, which healthcare organizations could implement to potentially increase quality assurance of an automated HH monitoring service, are illustrated.
Originality/value
Integrative augmentation of ISO 10001:2018, ISO/IEC 27701:2019 and ISO/IEC 29184:2020 within an underlying framework from ISO/IEC 20000–1:2018 for information technology service, together with the related examples of privacy-related customer satisfaction codes and the corresponding resources, is introduced.
