Abstract

A Selection of Equipment of Use in the Production and Maintenance of Aircraft, Missiles, Space Vehicles and their Components. To enable information on the correct application of feeds and speeds for tungsten carbide tip cutters to be available quickly, the Anstey (Leicestershire) machine tool and tungsten carbide tool and cutter manufacturing firms within the Marwin Group have produced a slide rule calculator which is to be issued to customers. Companies in the Group include Marwin (Anstey) Ltd., Marwin Machine Tools Ltd., Marwin Engineering Ltd. and Marwin Designs Ltd.

Abstract

RECENT developments in the field of convertible aircraft have shown the practicability of numerous methods of achieving vertical take‐off, combined with forward flight that is largely, or completely, supported by fixed wings. The aerodynamics of aircraft which derive their hovering lift from jet thrust are straightforward since there is no down‐wash to complicate the airflow over the wings; if a rotor is used, however, the wash of the rotor will vary from a relatively minor effect in forward flight to the only source of airflow over the wings in hovering.

Abstract

IN Part I of this paper, the basic equations were established for the various modes of instability of flat sandwich panels subjected to lengthwise compression. Whilst these equations are valuable in determining the strength of a given panel they do not give a direct indication of the cross‐sectional dimensions of a panel required to carry a given load, especially if the panel is to be the optimum, i.e. of minimum weight.
