Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to propose a research model integrating technology acceptance model 3 (TAM3) constructs and human aspects of humanoid service robots (HSRs), measured by the Godspeed questionnaire series and tested across two hotel properties in Japan and the USA.

Design/methodology/approach

Potential participants were approached randomly by email invitation. A final sample size of 395 across two hotels, one in Japan and the other in the USA, was obtained, and the data were analysed using structural equation modelling.

Findings

The results confirm that perceived usefulness, driven by subjective norms and output quality, and perceived ease of use, driven by perceived enjoyment and absence of anxiety, are the immediate direct determinants of users’ re-patronage intentions for HSRs. Results also showed that users prefer anthropomorphism, perceived intelligence and the safety of an HSR for reusing it.

Practical implications

The findings have practical implications for the hospitality industry, suggesting multiple attributes of an HSRs that managers need to consider before deploying them in their properties.

Originality/value

The current study proposes an integrated model determining factors that affect the re-patronage of HSRs in hotels.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this research is to provide insights into the determinants of businesses’ internet banking acceptance. It attempts to address a research need for extending the technology acceptance model (TAM) by adding contextual variables. As trust has never failed to be a significant predictor in e-commerce research, this study proposes to integrate trust into the TAM to get a better understanding of business e-banking adoption.

Design/methodology/approach

A research model reflecting the effect of e-trust dimensions on TAM constructs is proposed. Based on relevant literature, a questionnaire was designed and administrated to 102 business managers through a Web survey. A structural modelling analysis was applied.

Findings

The results confirm the dimensions and relations of the TAM. Moreover, two main trust dimensions – integrity and credibility – positively influence perceived usefulness and exert both a direct and an indirect positive effect on attitude towards business’ internet banking adoption and behavioural intention.

Practical implications

The managerial implications of the study are that Tunisian banks should consider influencing internet banking behaviour not only by developing ease of use and usefulness beliefs, but also by promoting professional credibility and integrity. They should, also, try to attract business users by focusing on and communicating the integrity and the credibility of the bank and highlight the ways in which these concerns have been ensured.

Originality/value

This study supplies the valuable integration of trust to the TAM. It reveals that extended TAM could be used to provide a solid theoretical foundation of business’ acceptance of internet banking. In this study, trust construct is measured through a multidimensional scale including four dimensions (benevolence, credibility, integrity and orientation to resolve problems). Moreover, this study focused on an emergent country, Tunisia, whereas most studies in the literature concentrate on research cases of developed countries.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to use the incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics method to examine the influences of a magnetic field on the double-diffusive convection caused by a rotating circular cylinder with paddles within a square cavity filled by a nanofluid.

Design/methodology/approach

The cavity is saturated by two wavy layers of non-Darcy porous media with a variable amplitude parameter. The embedded circular cylinder with paddles carrying T_h and C_h is rotating around the cavity center by a uniform circular velocity.

Findings

The lineaments of nanofluid velocity and convective flow, as well as the mean of Nusselt and Sherwood numbers, are represented below the variations on the frequency parameter, amplitude parameter of the wavy porous layers, Darcy parameter, nanoparticles parameter, Hartmann number and Ryleigh number. The performed simulations showed the role of paddles mounted on circular cylinders for enhancing the transmission of heat and mass within a cavity. The wavy porous layers at the lower Darcy parameter are playing as a blockage for the nanofluid flow within the porous area. Increasing the concentration of the nanoparticles to 6% reduces the maximum flow speed by 8.97% and maximum streamlines |ψ|max by 10.76%. Increasing Hartmann number to 100 reduces the maximum flow speed by 65.83% and |ψ|max by 75.54%.

Originality/value

The novelty of this work is to examine the effects of an inclined magnetic field and rotating novel shape of a circular cylinder with paddles on the transmission of heat/mass in the interior of a nanofluid-filled cavity saturated by undulating porous medium layers.
