The purpose of this paper is to provide a profile of John McManus.
Design/methodology/approach
John provides a short life history and is then interviewed by Jerome.
Findings
John tells us about the insidious development of his illness and how for many years it was masked by substance abuse.
Research limitations/implications
As Patricia Deegan has stated, “Each person’s journey of recovery is unique” (Deegan, 1996). That is why we can learn so much from case studies like John’s.
Practical implications
John’s account shows the value of Early Intervention Teams. The service he received from his local team was “second to none”.
Social implications
John talks about the value of volunteering and how it helped him believe that he could once more play a constructive role in life.
Originality/value
There is no doubt that John benefitted from support from professionals, experts by experience and his family. Equally he was also open to all these sources of support.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this paper is to examine the extent of value co-creation activity that exists in online brand communities. The approach was to use elements of practice theory to analyse the member-to-member Adult Fans of Lego (AFOL) community
Design/methodology/approach
The method adopted was netnography based on a study of eight LEGO Facebook groups. The study involved the collection of data in the form of text and images. Over a period of several months, the interactions between the AFOL ‘MEMBERS’ was examined and analysed.
Findings
Using the characteristics of brand communities established by Muniz and O'Guinn as an investigative framework, the research established that there exists a range of co-creation practices in the AFOL communities revolving around engagement procedures and understandings.
Practical implications
A range of strategies is revealed into how co-creation is established and maintained in an online community having key implications for the management of business processes.
Originality/value
With limited previous research on member-to-member brand communities using practice theory, this paper demonstrates that customer skills and knowledge are now a central aspect of value creation, demonstrating a shift away from the firm as the sole provider of worth.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore the challenges faced by corporations in incorporating ethics into their strategic management processes.
Design/methodological approach
The research is based on a survey of the issues and the literature published in Europe, North America and Asia.
Findings
Findings indicate a definite gap between the implementation of strategy and the moral and ethical obligations of corporations. Given the decline in business ethics and recent corporate scandals it is proposed that ethics be brought back to the forefront of strategic management and integrated into the strategic management process.
Research limitations/implications
The paper serves as a instrument for debate and future research in that the ethical issues faced by corporations will continue to gather momentum as will the issues faced by traditional strategists.
Originality/value
This paper allows researchers and practitioners to gain an understanding of the issues and shortcomings in strategy and ethical integration, which allows for future research.

The approach taken was desk research and conversations with other academics and industry experts.
Findings
The paper suggests that China needs to overcome weaknesses in managerial and technical skills and focus on international markets where it is positive strengths.
Practical implications
India provides some important and practical lessons for China's emerging software industry including those Chinese firms looking to increase their export revenues and presence around the globe.
Originality/value
This paper provides insight into the issues and challenges faced by the Chinese software industry looking to expand within a global economy. The paper may also prove useful to those researchers interested in emerging economies.

Abstract
Much has been made of the importance of the Indian market as the future of the software industry. However, according to mainstream internationalisation theory the market in India may be seen as a less preferential market to other higher growth and low cost markets such as China and Russia. India will have to move higher up the value chain if it is to maintain this favourable position. This article sets out to explain the main reasons why India is proving attractive for foreign direct investment by examining theories of internationalisation and drawing on key FDI data. Contrasts are also made with other important markets including China and Philippines. The article then goes on to examine industry specific variables. The article then considers some alternative historical and cultural factors that may also have a role in explaining the success of this particular industry and location.
