The purpose of this paper is to obtain knowledge about one of the issues that affects the ecosystem in Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. Studies on the environment are of fundamental importance if the quality of life of the inhabitants of certain regions is to be assured.

Physicochemical and biological analysis were performed of samples collected at four points along the river. Some of the parameters established by CONAMA Brazilian Regulation #357/05 were evaluated.

This paper did a physicochemical and biological characterization of a significant tributary river to the Guanabara Bay. This level of characterization has not been done before. The results achieved show that this river was in a worse condition than what was expected.

With its potential for tourism and fishing, and its importance to Rio de Janeiro City and the State as a whole, Guanabara Bay should be the object of more in‐depth studies and actions of a practical nature to bring about its ecological recovery.

This paper is a new source of information about this important tributary, as is Faria‐Timbó River to Guanabara Bay. This bay borders on a number of municipalities in the State and is of crucial importance not just for the neighboring towns and cities, but also for the entire State because of the fish stocks it harbors, which are consumed in the region.

Sane and civilised people, capable of thinking clearly, now recognise that if the peace of the world is to be secured, and that if another and even greater cataclysm is to be prevented, the Huns and their accomplices must be crushed, and crushed so completely that their recovery of the power to do evil shall be rendered utterly impossible. What form is that punishment to take? The long and ghastly account has got to be read out and settled—so far as it can be settled in this world. What is to be the settlement?

Prior studies mostly tested the association between carbon emissions and firm value in certain contexts. This study aims to advance the existing literature by concentrating on three indicators of greening in corporations namely resource use, emissions and eco-innovation, and examining their value relevance in the stock market at the global level. Furthermore, we deepen the investigation by exploring the moderating role of eco-innovation and the CSR committee between greening in corporations and market value.

The data for the study were retrieved from the Thomson Reuters Eikon database for the years between 2002 and 2019 and contain 17,961 firm-year observations which are analyzed through fixed-effects regression.

The results reveal that while resource usage is viewed as value-relevant by the market, the emissions and eco-innovation are not. However, despite eco-innovation per se not being value-relevant, its interaction with resource usage and emissions is value-relevant. Furthermore, CSR committees undertake a very critical role in translating greening practices into market value.

While the results for emissions support the cost-concerned school, the findings for resource usage confirm the value creation school. Furthermore, the interaction effect of eco-innovation and CSR committee confirms the resource-based theory and stakeholder theory, respectively.

Investors regard eco-innovation-induced pro-environmental behaviors as value-relevant. These results propose firms replace eco-innovation at the focal point in developing environmental strategies and connecting other greening efforts to it. Moreover, CSR committees are critical to corporations in translating greening practices into firm value by developing and implementing disclosure and communication strategies.

The study’s originality stems from investigating the synergetic effect that eco-innovation and CSR committees generate in translating greening practices to greater market value at a global scale.

In addition to Government control the co‐operative societies have their own organisations for controlling the health of the cattle and improving the cleanliness and quality of the milk produced by their members. These organisations co‐operate closely with the Government Keuringsdienst van Waren (Food Control Service) and welcome the Government's efforts; they say, however, that they can do far more than the Government officials could do unaided since they are in very intimate touch with the farmers, and have behind them the power to pay the farmer a lower price for his milk or to refuse it entirely, or expel him from the Society; these possibilities have greater compelling force than the necessarily more formal official methods of procedure and the threat of legal proceedings.

This study aims to propose a new kind of deployable morphing structure based on shape memory polymer (SMP), which can overcome the drawbacks of traditional deployable morphing structures, such as unavoidable system impact, unsatisfied deformation accuracy and complex mechanical masses.

In this study, although the deployment of the morphing structure was still driven by the specially designed mechanical structures, the application of SMP material realized a steady and accurate deploying process. Besides, SMP material was also utilized as the wing’s filler. During its shape recovery process, the internal SMP filler helps to form an aerofoil for the wing to sustain the surface aerodynamic loads.

Primary experiments were also completed to demonstrate the feasibility and the controllability of the designed deployable morphing structure, including the deploying velocity of the SMP filler and morphing structure. Finally, the wing’s deformation under the air loads was also analyzed by using the finite element method to validate the structural stability.

This paper shows a new approach to design a deployable morphing structure based on the SMP material.

For a library planning to add to a collection and develop a bibliography in a given area, the computer database can be a key factor in terms of efficiency of the process and the comprehensiveness of the end result. The Ohio State University Libraries (OSUL) in Columbus, Ohio house the outstanding William Charvat Collection of American Fiction, named in honor of a distinguished professor of American authorship at Ohio State University. For works published in the 18th and 19th centuries, the Charvat Collection compares favorably with collections at Yale University, the Henry E. Huntington Library, and the American Antiquarian Society. The Charvat collection is particularly strong for the period 1876–1900. Among 20th‐century titles, its holdings for the period 1901–1925 are rivalled only by the Library of Congress. Efforts have begun to develop holdings in American fiction from 1926 through the present.
