Abstract

Purpose

Generally, Internet-of-Things (IoT) is quite small sized with limited resource and low cost that may be vulnerable for physical and cloned attacking. All kind of authentication protocols designed to IoT devices are robust despite which it is prone to attack by hackers. In order to resolve this issue, there are various researches that have introduced the best method for obscuring the cryptographic key. However, the studies have majorly aimed to generate the key dynamically from noise data by Fuzzy Extractor (FE) or Fuzzy Commitment (FC). Hence, these methods have utilized this kind of data with noisy source namely Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) or biometric data. There are several IoT devices that get operated over undermined environment in which biometric data is not available but the technique utilized with biometric data can't be used to undermined IoT devices. Even though, the PUF technique is implemented for the undermined IoT devices this is quite vulnerable over physical attacks inclusive of accidental move and theft.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper has proposed an advanced scheme in fuzzy commitment over IoT devices which is said to be Improved Two Factor Fuzzy Commitment Scheme (ITFFCS) and this proposed ITFFCS has used two kind of noisy factors present inside and outside the IoT devices. Though, an intruder has accomplished the IoT devices with an access to the internal noisy source, the intruder can't select an exact key from the available data which have been compared using comparable module as an interest.

Findings

Moreover, the proposed ITFFC method results are compared with existing Static Random Accessible Memory (SRAM) PUF in enterprises application which illustrated the proposed ITFFC method with PUF has accomplished better results in parameters such as energy consumption, area utilization, False Acceptance Ratio (FAR) and Failure Rejection Ratio (FRR).

Originality/value

Thus, the proposed ITFFCS-PUF is comparatively better than existing method in both FAR and FRR with an average of 0.18% and 0.28%.

Abstract

The conventional treatment of thermal noise is based on Nyquist’s theorem. This theorem has only been derived for linear, reciprocal (we define “reciprocal networks” as networks that are built of reciprocal network elements) networks. In this paper a description of thermal noise in reciprocal non‐linear RLC networks is presented. This description is derived from first principles, i.e. from a direct application of non‐equilibrium thermodynamics (irreversible thermodynamics) to electrical networks. As an example, the class of “complete” non‐linear networks is considered. Using the idea of equivalent n‐ports, the theory’s extension to certain classes of transistor circuits should be possible.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to improve the survivability and maneuverability of the fighter, and study the stealth performance of fighter in the jet noise of aeroengine, it is of great significance to study the jet noise characteristics of double S-bend nozzles.

Design/methodology/approach

The multiparameter coupling and super-ellipse design methods are used to design the cross section of double S-bend nozzle. Taking unsteady flow information as the equivalent sound source, the noise signal at the far-field monitoring points were calculated with Ffowcs Williams–Hawkings (FW–H) method, and then, the sound source characteristics of the double S-bend nozzle are analyzed.

Findings

The results show that the internal flow of the S-bend nozzle with rectangular section is smoothed and the aerodynamic performance is better than super-ellipse section, the shear layer length of rectangular section is longer, the thickness is smaller and the mixing ability is stronger. The sound pressure level of the two S-bend nozzles decreases with the increase of the monitoring angle, and the sound pressure on the horizontal plane is greater than the vertical plane. In the direction of 40°–120°, the jet noise of rectangular nozzle is smaller, and the multiparameter coupled rectangular cross section structure is more applicable.

Practical implications

It is beneficial to reduce the jet noise of the engine tail nozzle and improve the stealth performance of the aircraft.

Originality/value

There is very little research on the jet noise characteristics of the double S-bend nozzle. The multiparameter coupling and the super-ellipse method are used to design the nozzle flow section to study the aerodynamic performance and jet noise characteristics of the double S-bend nozzle and to improve the acoustic stealth characteristics of the aircraft.

Abstract

Purpose

Viewing the blog technology as an integral part of the current social‐technical environment, this research aims to investigate whether the main influences on message diffusion within a blog community originate from external mass media channels or internal interpersonal communication channels.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors employed the innovation‐diffusion model and the OLS estimating method to study message diffusion of two documentary films on the Wretch, the largest blog community in Taiwan.

Findings

The results indicate that the mass media is the main source of message diffusion and that the internal communication power may increase as the opinion leader promotes these messages.

Research limitations/implications

Other factors that may influence message diffusion such as topic, design characteristics, and the existing social network have not been included.

Practical implications

For practice, the result indicates that the mass media and the blog might complement each other.

Originality/value

This research is one of the first that attempts to apply the innovation‐diffusion model to analyze message diffusion within the blog community.

Abstract

European air transport policy, emerged through the confluence of case law and legislation, in four broad areas: liberalization, safety and security, greening, and the external policy. Following the implementation of the single market for air transport, policy shifted to liberalizing and regulating associated services and in recent years to greening, the external aviation policy, and safety and security. Inclusion of air transport in the Environmental Trading Scheme of the European Union exemplifies the European Commission’s proactive stand on bringing the industry in line with emission reduction trajectories of other industries. However, the bid to include flights to third countries in the trading scheme pushed the EU into a controversial position, causing the Commission to halt implementation and to give ICAO time to seek a global multilateral agreement. The chapter also discusses how the nationality clauses in air services agreements breached the Treaty of Rome, and a court ruling to that effect enabled the EC to extend EU liberalization policies beyond the European Union, resulting in the Common Aviation Area with EU fringe countries and the Open Aviation Area with the USA. Another important area of progress was aviation safety, where the EU region is unsurpassed in the world, yet the Commission has pushed the boundary even further, by establishing the European Safety Agency to oversee the European Aviation Safety Management System. Another important area of regulatory development was aviation security, a major focus after the woeful events in 2001, but increasingly under industry scrutiny on costs and effectiveness. The chapter concludes by arguing that in the coming decade, the EU will strive to strengthen its position as a global countervailing power, symbolized in air transport by a leadership position in environmental policy and international market liberalization, exemplified in the EU’s external aviation policy.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to propose and study a refractive index sensor based on measuring variations of the internal diffuse reflectance from a glass interface in a functional design. The device is uncomplicated to assemble with simple optical elements and it can be built as a robust and stable sensor.

Design/methodology/approach

This study presents a simplified theoretical model of the signal obtained with the proposed device and perform a detailed analysis of its potential resolution and merits.

Findings

The authors report proof-of-principle experiments with a home-made device to evaluate its performance as a refractometer and index of refraction sensor.

Originality/value

The main novelty of the device is the use of a diffusing surface to couple light into a glass plate with a wide range of angles of refraction, including angles larger than the critical angle with the external medium, and using the same diffusing surface to couple reflected light out of the glass plate, including light that suffered total internal reflection.
