Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate and test the role of religio-centric product strategy (RPS) in mediating the relationship among marketing innovativeness (MI), market sensing capability (MSC), customer relationship management capability (CRMC) and brand management capability (BMC) with marketing performance (MP) in a religious-based industry. This is in accordance with the conditions of Indonesian religious people and the increasing demand for Muslim fashion products.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper selected 330 small fashion businesses in Indonesia and tested the regressive relations of the 6 constructs.
Findings
The findings showed that MI, MSC, CRMC and BMC have a positive effect on RPS and RPS also has a positive effect on MP, so that RPS acts as mediation in the relationship among MI, MSC, CRMC and BMC with MP.
Research limitations/implications
In-depth research on other dimensions of the role of antecedent variable of RPS, such as NPD capability, specialized marketing capability, resource reconfiguration marketing capability, architectural marketing capability and marketing resources that are interesting to discuss (Morgan, 2012), has not been done in research.
Originality/value
By examining the literature on dynamic capability, marketing strategy, entrepreneurship and business performance, this paper offers a unique analysis of dynamic marketing capability and its impact on product strategy and MP in religious-based industries.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to increase knowledge about awareness and intention to choose the halal products. This study assessed the effect of intrinsic religiosity and knowledge of halal products on the awareness and purchase intention of halal products. This study also investigated and examined the role of halal product awareness (HPA) in mediating the relationship between personal intrinsic religiosity (PIR) and halal product knowledge (HPK) with halal product intention (HPI). This knowledge will be very meaningful because there are still many types of products that are not halal certified circulating in the Muslim market segment.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used a self-administered questionnaire with closed questions. As many as 238 Muslim consumers in Indonesia over 17 years old were selected to be tested for regressive relationships from the four constructs. The Sobel test is then used to explain the mediating role of HPA.
Findings
This study shows that there is a relationship between PIR and HPK to HPA and HPI, and HPA to HPI. This study found that HPA was truly a partial mediation in the relationship between PIR and HPK with HPI.
Research limitations/implications
This study is conducted in the halal food sector in Indonesia and in certain cultural contexts so that the application of the same model in various sectors and countries can get various results. In addition, the respondents of this study were halal food customers; it would be very interesting to obtain data from other stakeholders such as halal food producers or retailers.
Originality/value
As per the authors’ knowledge, this study becomes the first study in Indonesia to examine the mediating role of HPA in the relationship of PIR and HPK with HPI. Conceptual discussion and results of empirical studies extend previous research on consumer behavior in the halal product market segment. An in-depth study of this phenomenon is expected to contribute in the development of science, especially Islamic marketing and customer behavior.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study are: to study the difference between halal awareness and halal certified awareness, and the relationship between the two variables; to study the differences in knowledge about halal and halal certified, as well as their relationship with halal awareness and halal certified awareness; and to build and test research models regarding factors that affect certified halal awareness.
Design/methodology/approach
The target population is Muslims who live in Indonesia and are 18 years old or more. The self-administered survey method is carried out based on a purposive sampling technique. The authors collect data from 428 Muslim respondents in Indonesia through an online survey. This study applies the partial least square–structural equation model to examine causal relationships and test hypotheses.
Findings
This study reveals several results: halal awareness is a different concept from halal-certified awareness; knowledge of halal is a different concept from knowledge of halal certificates; awareness is an outcome of knowledge, but knowledge is not an outcome of awareness; halal awareness has a significant effect on halal-certified awareness; knowledge about halal certificates has a significant effect on halal-certified awareness, but knowledge about halal does not have a significant effect; knowledge of halal certificates is not influenced by knowledge of halal and halal awareness; and exposure and religious commitment have a significant role in increasing knowledge and awareness.
Originality/value
Research that explores the difference between halal awareness and halal certified awareness, and Muslim knowledge about halal and halal certified, especially in the context of halal-certified food, is still very limited in the literature provided, if not unavailable. Furthermore, this study also builds and tests research models regarding the factors that affect certified halal awareness, which is limited or may not have been found in the literature.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between product knowledge and product involvement with purchase decision-making. In addition, this study also determines the role of halal brand awareness as a moderating variable in influencing the relationship between product knowledge and product involvement with purchase decision-making.
Design/methodology/approach
Five major cities in Indonesia were chosen as study locations because they are student cities, and also cities with more population and more famous in Indonesia, so the sample is more heterogeneous. A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed using a convenience sampling method with an effective rate of 93%. Hypotheses are tested by structural equation modeling procedures using analysis of moment structure 22.0.
Findings
The empirical results suggest that product knowledge and product involvement have a positive and significant effect on consumer purchase decision-making; halal brand awareness is a moderating variable in the relationship between product knowledge and product involvement with purchase decision-making.
Research limitations/implications
This study adopts convenience sampling with the sampling area restricted in five cities, so it may not be suitable to be concluded as a consumer in general. This study only conducts research on halal food products in general. Future research may choose to use one brand of halal food product or compare several other halal food product brands. The results of the study support that the heterogeneity of respondents (age, education, gender and religion) has always been an important component in the study of consumption behavior. So that future research can examine the effect of different characteristics of respondents on the relationship between product knowledge, product involvement, halal brand awareness and purchase decisions.
Practical implications
The findings have significant implications that can help producers to develop strategies suitable for halal brand awareness and heighten the decision to purchase halal products by consumers in both Muslim and non-Muslim countries. So that the branding of halal products can enable businesses to access new markets for non-Muslim consumers in both Muslim and non-Muslim countries, so as to increase producer profitability by selling products at higher prices thereby providing higher profit margins.
Originality/value
In accordance with the author’s knowledge, this study is the first study to examine the moderator role of halal brand awareness variables in the relationship of product knowledge and product involvement with purchase decision-making.

Abstract
Purpose
This study presents a systematic literature review of halal food (HF) customer behaviour using the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases. This study aims to identify trends, methodologies, theoretical developments and determinants of HF customer behaviour in Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as potential future research directions.
Design/methodology/approach
This study extends the bibliometric and systematic literature review covering all variables in customers purchasing HF by extracting the Scopus and WoS databases. We used the SLR method via the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) model. A total of 43 samples related to customer behaviour towards HF articles were identified and reviewed.
Findings
This study found 43 articles discussing variables or factors that influence consumers’ behaviour towards HF in Indonesia and Malaysia. Quantitative methods and extended TPB theory are most widely used to measure the determinants of customer behaviour towards HFs. Religiosity, attitude, halal awareness and trust are the most dominant factors that significantly influence customer behaviour towards HF. This study suggests several potential future research directions.
Research limitations/implications
The HF industry, marketers and governments in Indonesia and Malaysia must ensure that their products meet consumer expectations by implementing halalan thayyiban and strengthening HF marketing strategies based on halal-labelled food.
Originality/value
This study is the first to examine the factors determining customer behaviour towards HF in Indonesia and Malaysia using a systematic literature review method from Scopus and the WoS database.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the impact of brand ethical behavior, specifically perceived brand ethicality, on corporate brand legitimacy in the context of halal cosmetics, by considering perceived brand integrity as a mediating factor.
Design/methodology/approach
The study used a quantitative cross-sectional research design to gather data from 341 fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in Tanzania. The data was analyzed by using AMOS 21, using structural equation modeling techniques.
Findings
The findings indicated that perceived brand ethicality has a significant influence on corporate brand legitimacy through the mediation of perceived brand integrity.
Practical implications
The study emphasizes the significance of incorporating and clarifying Islamic laws as integral components of marketing strategies aimed at attracting conscientious customers of halal products. It recommends defining Islamic laws as societal values and norms and integrating them into various brand practices to showcase professionalism, ultimately fostering social acceptance and approval. The study presents valuable practical implications for managers and marketers of FMCG, assisting them in formulating policies and strategies that reflect societal values and norms.
Originality/value
This study represents a novel endeavor that explores the interplay between perceived brand ethicality, corporate brand legitimacy and perceived brand integrity in the context of halal products. It extends theoretical understanding by shedding light on the significance of Islamic laws as a foundation for establishing a competitive advantage. By offering and designing ethical practices, businesses can enhance their legitimacy among halal consumers, particularly in the domain of halal cosmetics.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to empirically examine the influence of Islamic corporate social responsibility (ICSR) on social welfare moderated by financial fraud.
Design/methodology/approach
The method used was the mix method. The number of respondents was 410. They combined the moderate regression analysis with PROCESS Andrew F Hayes to test the research hypothesis. After conducting the survey, it was continued by conducting interviews with the village community and the head of the village.
Findings
The first finding of this study is that ICSR has a significant positive effect on social welfare. The second finding is that financial fraud weakens the influence of ICSR on social welfare. The results of the interviews also confirmed the two findings of this study.
Research limitations/implications
The high level of bias in answering the questions is due to the low public knowledge of ICSR. In addition, the interviews still needed to involve the oil and gas companies and government.
Practical implications
The main implication is improving social welfare, especially for those affected by offshore oil drilling. Furthermore, stakeholders are more sensitive to the adverse effects of financial fraud. Finally, to make drilling companies more transparent and on target in implementing ICSR.
Originality/value
The main novelty in this research is using of the mixed method. In addition, applying financial fraud as a moderating variable is rarely studied empirically.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to show the factors that influence the intention of Generation Z Muslims to buy halal food products through ShopeeFood.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used quantitative methods. The analytical technique used is partial least square-structural equation modeling with 230 respondents as a sample of Generation Z Muslims in West Java, Indonesia. This research was conducted in June 2022 by distributing questionnaires via Google Forms and social media.
Findings
The results showed that perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, religiosity and intention to buy halal food through ShopeeFood in Generation Z Muslims in West Java were in the high category. However, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control are the only ones that positively and significantly affect purchase intention.
Practical implications
ShopeeFood is expected to be able to identify and take advantage of the high level of intention of Generation Z Muslims to buy halal food through ShopeeFood. ShopeeFood can socialize and increase consumer attention that ShopeeFood is different from other online food delivery services. ShopeeFood can require merchants to display transparency in the composition of food products.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is perhaps the first study in the context of Generation Z Muslims in West Java, Indonesia, that deals with the perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control and religiosity on the intention to buy halal food through ShopeeFood. The study’s findings are essential in Islamic marketing and technological acceptance (ShopeeFood Apps).

Purpose
This paper aims to investigate potential Muslim tourists’ visit intentions to halal tourism destinations in Japan.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were acquired from 397 respondents of potential Muslim tourists in Indonesia. These data were analyzed with variance-based structural modeling to assess the relationships between religiosity, halal awareness, destination image, destination trust and visit intention.
Findings
This study disclosed that halal awareness and destination trust could directly affect visit intention. Meanwhile, destination image could influence visit intention after mediated by destination trust. Religiosity was proven to be the antecedent of halal awareness and destination image.
Practical implications
This study exhibits the ways to optimize the development of halal tourism, especially in Muslim minority countries, by shaping the visit intention of potential Muslim tourists. The providers should concentrate on building the destination trust of potential Muslim tourists. They should innovatively exhibit their sincere commitment to fulfilling halal needs of potential tourists, and having a favorable destination image is only one of the ways. Besides that, the providers can promote halal tourism to potential Muslim tourists with more vital halal awareness.
Originality/value
This is an initial study to examine the visit intention of potential Muslim tourist for halal tourism destination in a Muslim minority country.

Abstract
Purpose
The increasing number of tourists in the Muslim world every year has encouraged digital business developers and the Sharia banking industry to integrate halal product and service apps with the Sharia mobile banking system. The fourth wave of the industrial revolution has changed the consumer paradigm, creating a young generation that uses digital service transaction systems in their daily lives. This paper aims to investigate the factors that determine intention to use halal tourism apps amongst Muslim tourists to provide insights promoting the development of halal tourism in Indonesia.
Design/methodology/approach
The research was conducted using an online survey approach. The sample comprised 205 Muslim Millennial and Generation Z travellers. The data collected were analysed using partial least square structural equation modelling. There were three analysis stages: evaluation of the measurement model, assessment of the structural model and hypothesis testing.
Findings
The findings indicated that trust mediated the relationship between perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness on individual intentions and that halal knowledge positively and significantly impacted individual intentions. In contrast, religiosity was not a significant influence on individual intentions.
Originality/value
The paper expanded the technology acceptance model by incorporating the key constructs of halal knowledge, religiosity and trust into an integrated research framework; this represented a novel step, especially in the context of halal tourism. The finding that trust mediated the relationship between perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness fills a gap in previous research, which has rarely included the trust construct in technology acceptance models.
