Abstract

Purpose

This paper holds a big advantage to enable to recognize faces, regardless of time and place. Also this provides an independent performance of smart phone, because of its process by a computer of third party not by that of the mobile device. In addition, it is desirable to minimize the expensive operations in mobile device with constraint computational power (i.e. battery consumption). Thus, the authors exclude the process of transmission failed from the input device. The paper aims to discuss these issues.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, the authors have proposed a new face detection and verification algorithm, based on skin color detection to enable extracting the face region from color images of the mobile phone. And then extracted the facial feature as eigenface, verified whether or not the identity of users is right, applied support vector machine to the region of detected face.

Findings

The experimental results for two datasets show that the proposed method achieves slightly higher efficiencies at the detection and verification of user identity, compared with other method, where varying lighting conditions with complex backgrounds, according to be fast and accurate than any other previous methods.

Originality/value

The proposed algorithm enables to implement fast and accurate search using triangle-square transformation for detection of human faces in a digital still color images, obtained by the mobile device camera under unconstraint environments, using advanced skin color model and characteristic points in a detected face.

Abstract

Shows how the US economy has witnessed both a massive influx of immigrant workers and a sharp decline in organized labour. Examines the struggles of Latino workers in Los Angeles, USA and shows just how immigrant workers and labour unions have a complicated relationship there. Explains how the problems were eventually eased.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to elaborate value-added service of cold chain logistics between China and Korea. The covering strategy for developing the cold chain value-added service between the two countries is proposed.

Design/methodology/approach

The author expounds the driving power for developing cold chain logistics between the two countries basing on the trade data of agricultural exports and imports, the tariff liberalization agreement of China–Korea FTA and the short distance between the two countries. It analyzes the value-added service of cold chain logistics with exemplary cases from four aspects (customized service, integrated service, consultation/solution and strategic alliance service), and its value-added mechanism for the enhancement of core competences of the entire cold chain. Then, by considering the drawbacks of the current cold chain logistics practices, between the two countries, the author proposes certain measures for fostering the cold chain value-added services between them.

Findings

There are apparent mutual benefits in developing cold chain value-added service between the two countries, but there exists some shortcomings which impede the sound development of the cold chain logistics, such as low circulation rate and insufficient cold chain facility in China, shortage of integrated and compatible information platform between the two countries, few integrated cold chain service and strategic alliance service and occurrence of some trade frictions.

Originality/value

The enforcement of China–Korea FTA will greatly reduce the tariff and increase the import and export volumes between the two countries; with the proximity between them, development of cold chain logistics between the two countries holds tremendous potential. This paper thoroughly discusses the mechanism of the value-added service of the cold chain logistics, and brings into focus the development of the value-added service in the two countries.

Abstract

This paper provides, first, a historical perspective of accounting research relating to Asian/Pacific countries as seen from the vantage of the leading international journal in the United States and, second, a bibliographical data base and index of twenty‐six years of articles on this region of the world. It accomplishes the first objective by presenting a tabular profile of research in international accounting as it pertains to countries in the Asian/Pacific Rim region as shown in articles published in the International Journal of Accounting (formerly, the International Journal of Accounting, Education and Research) and related publications which appeared from 1965 to 1990. The articles are classified according to country, research methodology, subject, and five‐year time periods. The paper accomplishes the second objective by providing an annotated bibliography of 125 articles on Asian/Pacific Rim countries and indices by country and methodology, and subject.
