Abstract

THE stresses existing in the structure of a tail plane, in varying conditions of flight, are possibly more a matter of doubt than obtains for any other part of an aeroplane structure. The assumptions made at present are frankly conventional, but are accepted because in the past they have usually yielded satisfactory results.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine the factors that influence e‐government adoption in Cambodia as one of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states.

Design/methodology/approach

This study uses the technology acceptance model (TAM), the extended TAM (TAM2), the diffusion of innovations (DOI) theory, and trust to build a parsimonious yet comprehensive model of user adoption of e‐government. The authors test the model with an empirical study. Data are collected from a total of 112 public officers in 12 ministries in Cambodia. The research model is then assessed with multiple regression analyses.

Findings

The findings in this study show that the determinants of the research model (perceived usefulness, relative advantage, and trust) are support. At the same time, the important determinants of perceived usefulness include image and output quality.

Practical implications

The study would help government policy decision makers design and implement policies and strategies to increase the adoption of e‐government services in Cambodia as well as in other countries, particularly ASEAN member states that have a similar situation.

Originality/value

This paper is one of a few studies on e‐government adoption in ASEAN and the first study on e‐government adoption in Cambodia.

Abstract

Purpose

The present research aims to identify determinants for citizen’ behavioural adoption of e-government, explore relationships among these variables and investigate whether the proposed model can provide a more comprehensive manner to understand the adoption of e-government.

Design/methodology/approach

First, a survey is administered to collect data, then the Cronbach’s alpha is assessed for internal consistency of measurement scales; second, confirmatory factor analysis is conducted to evaluate the measurement model; finally, a structural equation model is used to test the proposed hypotheses and explore the determinants of e-government adoption.

Findings

Results indicate that the proposed model is a stable model with powerful explanatory of variation. In addition, some new relationships in the e-government context are found, whose disposition to trust has positive effect on social norms, whereas perceived risk negatively influences perceived behaviour control. Moreover, other key dominants have been investigated.

Originality/value

The findings have enabled us to better understand factors affecting intention and also provided a solid theoretical research model for future study.

Abstract

Discusses prevention of lead poisoning among US children, claiming that it is entirely preventable yet is the most common environmentally induced disease in children. Outlines the extent of the problem then focuses on legislation, what the various acts were meant to achieve, and how they can be enforced. Explains how sociological skills were used in the author’s work for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Indicates that sociologists can help in a number of fields not immediately linked to sociology.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine the relationships among the dimensions of consumption values (functional, social and emotional), co-creation, information overload, satisfaction and continuance intention derived from the use of the Airbnb platform.

Design/methodology/approach

A Web-based survey was conducted among Italians, and a valid sample of 259 persons was obtained for data analysis.

Findings

The survey results indicated that only functional value and social value are strong predictors of satisfaction in the use of the Airbnb website for accommodation booking. Co-creation and absence of information overload also contribute to satisfaction with using the Airbnb website for accommodation booking, which in turn affects continuance intention.

Research limitations/implications

The findings of this study are highly destination-specific, given that the authors collected the data only from Italian residents. The sample was based on a snowball sampling technique; thus, the study findings could be misrepresented because of sampling selection bias. Moreover, the study was limited to the use of three dimensions of consumption values, co-creation, information overload and satisfaction to predict continuance intention. Furthermore, the present study adopted a Web-based survey questionnaire.

Practical implications

Managerial implications include recommendations for hosts to emphasise their prices when listing accommodations on the Airbnb website and to focus on active interaction with potential guests. Information on the website should also be organised to avoid information overload.

Originality/value

This study allows a deeper understanding of users’ continuance intention with regards to the Airbnb website by exploring the possible determinants.

Abstract

Many managers have found popular and academic writings on job and organisational design most interesting and have committed a great deal of energy in trying to use them. Terms such as job enrichment, job enlargement, Japanese management, and socio‐technical design have become well known for their potential in responding to problems of job dissatisfaction, labour instability, and poor workmanship. Ways in which “popular paperback” theories, as well as other more systematic organisational theories of design might be customised to the particular needs of the organisation are illustrated.

Abstract

IN the previous article, the lateral stability of an aircraft was shown to depend upon the roots of a quartic equation in which the coefficients were obtained in terms of the resistance derivatives of the aeroplane. These derivatives were defined in a highly synthetic manner from a mathematical rather than a physical standpoint, so that their meaning is apt to be somewhat obscure. It is likely, however, that the use of symbols like lp is familiar to readers who are not otherwise acquainted with stability nomenclature, since these expressions arc commonly used in other aerodynamic topics such as rolling performance, spinning etc. It is important therefore to correlate the definitions given here with those given elsewhere and to establish their physical meanings.
