Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to compare implementation of short‐run (i.e., small lot‐size) statistical process control (SPC) techniques in just‐in‐time (JIT) manufacturing environments. Using U.S. and Japanese questionnaires, this research focuses on the use of several manufacturing elements such as setup time, stability of process and quality improvement. Barriers to the implementation of short‐run SPC techniques are also examined. Results show significant difference in the way some short‐run SPC techniques are utilized by JIT and non‐JIT manufacturers.

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to compare the implementation of short‐run (i.e., small lot‐size) statistical process control (SPC) techniques for manufacturing between the U.S. and Japan. Using U.S. and Japanese questionnaires, this research focuses on the use of several manufacturing management elements such as setup time, stability of process, and quality improvement. These elements are compared in terms of their respective countries’ short‐run SPC techniques implementation. Barriers to the implementation of short‐run SPC techniques are also examined. In addition, this research identifies current process control techniques used to support short‐run SPC in both countries. Results show how the significantly different short‐run SPC techniques are utilized in the U.S. and Japan.

Abstract
The primary objective of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is to help integrate an organization's business operations and processes effectively and efficiently. Not all firms have been successful in their ERP implementations and to that end research has helped to identify many factors that might be critical to a successful implementation. Such factors as the use of business process reengineering (BPR), and establishing a total quality management (TQM) culture have all shown to play important roles in ERP implementation. The focus of this survey research on US electronic manufacturing firms is to identify successful integration sequences of TQM and BPR with ERP. The findings reveal that both the sequence of implementation and the strategies selected to initiate ERP systems can significantly impact business performance successfulness.

Abstract
The weapon system of The Navy is the small quantity producing system on multiple kinds. It is consisted of various equipment and the subordinate parts of those which can repair the damaged part. The operating procedure concerning warship's repair parts managed under these systems is as follows. Firstly, if demand of repair parts occurs from warship which is the operating unit of weapon, then the Fleet(the repair & supply support battalion) is in charge of dealing with these requests. If certain request from warship is beyond the battalion's capability, it is delivered directly to the Logistic Command. In short, the repair and supply support system of repair parts can be described as the multi-level support system. The various theoretical researches on inventory management of Navy's repair parts and simulation study that reflects reality in detail have been carried out simultaneously. However, the majority of existing research has been conducted on aircraft and tank's repairable items, in that, the studies is woefully deficient in the area concerning Navy's inventory management. For that reason, this paper firstly constructs the model of consumable items that is frequently damaged reflecting characteristics of navy's repair parts inventory management using ARENA simulation. After that, this paper is trying to propose methodology to analyze optimal inventory level of each supply unit through OptQuest, the optimization program of ARENA simulation.

Abstract
Purpose
The behavior of high-performance concrete (HPC) at high temperatures is very complex and also affects the global behavior of heated HPC-based structures. Researchers have also reported how various types of fibers affected the mechanical properties of cement-based materials at high temperatures. This study aims to discuss the effects of high temperatures on the compressive strength and elastic modulus of HPC with polypropylene (PP) and jute fiber.
Design/methodology/approach
Adding synthetic fiber (especially the PP type) to HPC is a widely used and effective method of preventing explosive spalling. Although researchers have experimentally determined the permeability of heated PP-fiber-reinforced HPC, few studies have investigated how adding natural fiber such as jute to this type of concrete might prevent spalling. In this study, the effects of high temperatures on the compressive strength and elastic modulus of HPC with PP and jute fiber (jute fiber addition ratio: 0.075 vol.%; length: 12 mm; PP fiber addition ratio: 0.075 vol.%; length: 12 mm) were experimentally investigated.
Findings
The work was intended to clarify the influence of elevated temperatures ranging from 20°C to 500°C on the material mechanical properties of HPC at 80 MPa. HSC with jute fiber showed a compressive strength loss of about 40 per cent at 100°C before recovering to full strength between 200°C and 300°C.
Originality/value
The elastic modulus of high-strength concrete decreased by 10-40 per cent between 100°C and 300°C. At 500°C, the elastic modulus was only 30 per cent of the room temperature value. The thermal expansion strain of all specimens was 0.006 at 500°C.

Abstract
Purpose
The centralized processes of today’s power trading systems are complex and pose a risk of price tampering and hacking. The decentralized and unmodifiable nature of the blockchain technology that has recently been highlighted offers the potential to improve this power trading process. The purpose of this study is to implement a system to apply the blockchain technology to the problem of power trading.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors modeled the power trading problem as the interaction between admin, producer and consumer nodes. And a power trading scenario has been created for this model using a blockchain platform called Multichain which is both fast and highly scalable. To verify this scenario, they implemented a trading system using Savoir, a Python-based JsonRPC module.
Findings
Experimental results show that all processes, such as blockchain creation, node connectivity, asset issuance and exchange transactions have been correctly handled according to the scenario.
Originality/value
In this study, the authors have proposed and implemented a power trading method that determines price according to the pure market principle and cannot be manipulated or hacked. It is based on the nature of blockchain technology that is decentralized and cannot be tampered.

Abstract
Purpose
With increasing attention to sustainability in port operations, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the role of sustainability practice (SP) as a moderator on the relationships between competitiveness and performance in port operations.
Design/methodology/approach
To explore the specific route of SPs in managing competitiveness and performance, this study adopted the hierarchical moderated regression analysis. Additionally, to analyze the difference in the level of implementation of SP, alternative subgroup analysis was conducted via independent sample t-tests in SPSS 21.
Findings
Research results have shown the role of SPs in achieving outstanding port activities, which significantly moderates the relationship between competitiveness, particularly for operational efficiency and service quality, and performance.
Research limitations/implications
As this study is based on cross-sectional data, it does not tap any temporal attitude change, which would require a longitudinal approach. The authors contribute to filling a void between what is achievable and how sustainable practice contributes to managing competitiveness and performance, based on commercial port operations.
Practical implications
Results provide useful insights to establish the strategies to develop sustainable port operations and a strategic agenda to assist ports to incorporate SP.
Originality/value
Drawing on multiple theories, this study advances the role of SP by shedding new light on how it improves operational sustainability through strengthening the relationships between competitiveness and performance.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper examines whether the successful bid rate of the OnBid public auction, published by Korea Asset Management Corporation, can identify and forecast the Korea business-cycle expansion and contraction regimes characterized by the OECD reference turning points. We use logistic regression and support vector machine in performing the OECD regime classification and predicting three-month-ahead regime. We find that the OnBid auction rate conveys important information for detecting the coincident and future regimes because this information might be closely related to deleveraging regarding default on debt obligations. This finding suggests that corporate managers and investors could use the auction information to gauge the regime position in their decision-making. This research has an academic significance that reveals the relationship between the auction market and the business-cycle regimes.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the purchase intention in the case of smartphone advertising, which is unlike any other advertising media.
Design/methodology/approach
This study examines the characteristics of recent mobile advertisements such as brand attitude and context awareness value, which have not been considered in studies on non-mobile advertisements, to address purchase intention through smartphone advertisements using structural equation modeling.
Findings
The results are as follows. Together with entertainment, information, irritation, and personalization in non-mobile advertisements, timing and location in mobile advertisements are the main factors for establishing consumers’ purchase intention. Further, although mobile advertisements’ context awareness value strongly impacts consumers’ advertising attitude and brand attitude, purchase intention receives greater impact from brand attitude than from advertising attitude because the products/services lack feel and touch.
Originality/value
These results imply that contextual advertising and new technology enabling feel and touch for products/services can maximize the effect of mobile advertisements.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this paper is to explore the changes in the ICT and global value chains (GVCs) after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Design/methodology/approach
This study compared the difference between Korea’ domestic ICT industries, ICT imports and ICT exports before and after the COVID-19 outbreak by using trade data of ICT products and national economic indicators, and presents growth strategy for the ICT industry in the post-COVID 19 era. For this purpose, this study determined the causalities between Korea's imports/exports of ICT products and composite Indexes before and after COVID-19, and derived implications in the ICT industry environment after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Findings
Analysis results showed the following changes in Korea's ICT industry in the post-COVID-19 world. (1) Non-face-to-face and contact-free technologies related sectors in the ICT industry, such as the semiconductor sector, have grown exponentially; (2) as the USA has grown as the new key player, the causal relationship with China, a key player of the GVC in the pre-COVID-19 era, disappeared; and (3) the GVC of the ICT industry is not a rigid one-way vertical structure, but is changing to a flexible structure influenced by cooperation and competition between countries.
Originality/value
The results indicate that it is essential to constantly develop new ICT sectors that make use of non-face-to-face and contact-free technologies in the post-COVID-19 era, and the main strategies in response to the changed GVC would be taking the initiative by securing source technologies and expanding through cooperation with other GVCs and resource sharing.
