Purpose
The purpose of this research is to explore the relationship between supervisor-subordinate Guanxi (SSG) and employee affective commitment. Integrating social exchange theory (SET) with conservation of resource (COR) theory, this paper explores the mixed effect of SSG on affective commitment as well as the moderating roles of an individual difference (subordinate work ethic) and a contextual variable (procedural fairness).
Design/methodology/approach
This research adopted a survey involving 249 subordinates to test the hypothesized model.
Findings
The results showed that the relationship between SSG and affective commitment was inverted U-shaped, and this relationship was moderated by work ethic and procedural fairness, respectively.
Research limitations/implications
Despite those contributions listed above, there are still some limitations that future research should seek to address. First, the data of this research are cross-sectional, which might cause common method bias to responses. However, all the hypotheses are higher-order forms of the main effects (curvilinear and moderating effects), which are not affected by the cross-sectional nature of the study (Podskoff et al., 2003). Moreover, given these variables in the model are related to subordinates' internal psychological states or perceptions, data for the study should be collected from subordinates. Relatedly, the cross-sectional nature of the dataset may raise a question about the directionality of the relationships. However, the research model is based on strong theories (i.e. SET and COR theory). In addition, prior research has indicated that Guanxi has an influence on commitment, not vice versa (Cheung et al., 2009; Chen and O'Leary, 2018). However, given that only experimental design can conclusively prove the directionality of the relationship, the authors encourage to replicate the current study using such a design. In addition, the authors encourage future studies to collect longitudinal data and replicate the current study. Second, this study only tested how work ethic and procedural fairness moderated the relationship between SSG and affective commitment. The authors encourage future research to explore the moderating effect of other moderators, such as the integrity of supervisors. In particular, when the supervisor has a high level of integrity, the negative influence of higher SSG may be weakened. Third, this study did not explore the mechanism linking SSG with affective commitment. Future studies should explore the potential mechanisms. For example, subordinates' emotional exhaustion might be the potential mechanism between SSG and affective commitment.
Practical implications
The results imply that supervisors should treat SSG as a double-edged sword and maximize the positive influence of SSG. In addition, organizations should hire individuals with high work ethic or provide related training. At last, organizations should realize the importance of procedural fairness and set a sector that oversees making and executing well-designed roles.
Originality/value
Previous studies on SSG mainly focused on its positive effect on affective commitment, neglecting to explore its negative effect. This paper helped to illustrate the relationship between SSG and affective commitment comprehensively by indicating the relationship between SSG and affective commitment was inverted U-shaped and moderated by work ethic and procedural fairness, respectively.

Abstract
This chapter examines the similarities and differences between the concepts of transformational leadership as developed within North America and the Confucian idea of transformation. It argues that Confucian tradition encompasses the essential elements embedded in the concept of transformational leadership. The former differentiates from the latter in its deeper degree of transformation, emphasis on morality and culture, and its focus on transformation from the inside outwards. The two greatest educators in Chinese history, Confucius and Cai Yuanpei, are evaluated in terms of their transformational leadership qualities in the Western sense. By looking at Confucius and Cai Yuanpei as successful transformational leaders, the chapter identifies four important factors from Chinese cases that may contribute to the success of this type of leadership. Implications of this comparison are discussed as they may inform the knowledge, research and practices of transformational leadership.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to identify smaller wear particles and improve the calculation speed, identify more abrasive particles and promote industrial applications.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper studies a new intelligent recognition method for equipment wear debris based on the YOLO V5S model released in June 2020. Nearly 800 ferrography pictures, 23 types of wear debris, about 5,000 wear debris were used to train and test the model. The new lightweight approach of wear debris recognition can be implemented in rapidly and automatically and also provide for the recognition of wear debris in the field of online wear monitoring.
Findings
An intelligent recognition method of wear debris in ferrography image based on the YOLO V5S model was designed. After the training, the GIoU values of the model converged steadily at about 0.02. The overall precision rate and recall rate reached 0.4 and 0.5, respectively. The overall MAP value of each type of wear debris was 40.5, which was close to the official recognition level of YOLO V5S in the MS COCO competition. The practicality of the model was approved. The intelligent recognition method of wear debris based on the YOLO V5S model can effectively reduce the sensitivity of wear debris size. It also has a good recognition effect on wear debris in different sizes and different scales. Compared with YOLOV. YOLOV, Mask R-CNN and other algorithms%2C, the intelligent recognition method based on the YOLO V5S model, have shown their own advantages in terms of the recognition effect of wear debris%2C the operation speed and the size of weight files. It also provides a new function for implementing accurate recognition of wear debris images collected by online and independent ferrography analysis devices.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the intelligent identification of wear debris based on the YOLO V5S network is proposed for the first time, and a large number of wear debris images are verified and applied.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to understand the functional properties of ball valve in a compressible flow and simulation of experimental data collection of ball valve, was completely simulated.
Design/methodology/approach
Equations are solved according to finite volume and simplified algorithms. By measuring the flow parameters, including pressure and temperature at different points in the simulation circuit, flow coefficients and localized drop in the valve were determined in different openness cases of test valve and compared with experimental results. Determining a graph for flow coefficient variations in terms of the percentage of openness of the valve is very effective on the flow control as well as on optimizing its cross-section.
Findings
In the supersonic flow, flow coefficients and local drops of the valve are dependent on several parameters, including fluid flow rate. Flow coefficient graphs at different angles of the test valve show that by increasing the valve opening angle, the flow coefficient increases so that it reaches from 1.72 m3/h at a 30° angle to 46.29 m3/h at a 80° angle. It should be noted that these values in the experimental test were obtained 1.53 m3/h and 49.68 m3/h, respectively, and the percentage difference of these values by simulation was obtained for the angle of 30 degrees 11.7% and for the angle of 80°, about 7% per hour at an angle of 80°. Also, the coefficients of localized loss at different angles of test valve show that by increasing the angle of opening of the valve, the amount of localized loss decreases, so that the average value of 1515.2 in the angle of 30° reaches 1.9 at an angle of 80°. The percentage difference of these values by simulation, for the angle of 30° and 3.5% for the angle of 80°, was about 11.1%.
Originality/value
Determining a graph for flow coefficient variations versus the percentage of openness of the valve is very effective on the flow control as well as on optimizing its cross-section. In the supersonic flow, flow coefficients and local drop coefficients of the valve are dependent on several parameters, including fluid flow rate.

Abstract
Purpose
Despite the acknowledged significance of the relationship between audit fees and corporate philanthropic initiatives, the existing literature has not yet reached the desired level of providing explicit evidence on how this relationship can be moderated by board gender diversity. This paper aims to contribute to the ongoing debate by using a panel data set comprising 905 Chinese listed firms over a five-year period from 2015 to 2019.
Design/methodology/approach
To generate solid findings and overcome the potential endogeneity bias, various econometric estimators, namely, ordinary least squares, two-step generalized method of moments, robust two-stage least squares and subsample analysis, have been carefully used. More interestingly, the study’s results remain consistent across different estimation methods.
Findings
The results reveal a statistically significant positive link between audit fees and corporate charitable giving. More interestingly, this connection strengthens with a higher representation of women directors on the board, particularly when there are three or more female directors. Furthermore, the results suggest that nonstate-owned firms exhibit greater motivation to participate in charitable giving initiatives compared to state-owned counterparts.
Practical implications
Stakeholders from various groups should attentively recognize the importance of gender-diverse boards as a dynamic factor impacting the association between audit fees and corporate charitable giving.
Originality/value
To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the crushing majority of the preceding research has not delved deeply into the critical role of board gender diversity in the relationship between audit fees and corporate charitable donations. Hence, this study provides a profound understanding of how audit fees predict corporate philanthropic initiatives.

This paper aims to focus on the variable stick force-displacement (SFD) gradience in the active side stick (ASS) servo system for the civil aircraft.
Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to focus on the variable stick force-displacement (SFD) gradience in the active side stick (ASS) servo system for the civil aircraft.
Design/methodology/approach
The problem of variable SFD gradience was introduced first, followed by the analysis of its impact on the ASS servo system. To solve this problem, a linear-parameter-varying (LPV) control approach was suggested to process the variable gradience of the SFD. A H∞ robust control method was proposed to deal with the external disturbance.
Findings
To validate the algorithm performance, a linear time-variant system was calculated to be used to worst cases and the SFD gradience was set to linear and non-linear variation to test the algorithm, and some typical examples of pitch angle and side-slip angle tracking control for a large civil aircraft were also used to verify the algorithm. The results showed that the LPV control method had less settling time and less steady tracking errors than H∞ control, even in the variable SFD case.
Practical implications
This paper presented an ASS servo system using the LPV control method to solve the problem caused by the variable SFD gradience. The motor torque command was calculated by pressure and position feedback without additional hardware support. It was more useful for the electronic hydraulic servo actuator.
Originality/value
This was the research paper that analyzed the impact of the variable SFD gradience in the ASS servo system and presented an LPV control method to solve it. It was applicable for the SFD gradience changing in the linear and non-linear cases.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of the study is to determine the impact that the crucial determinants have on the behavioural intention (BI) of undergraduates to adopt Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), addressing two perspectives that are students' technical experience and psychosocial factors.
Design/methodology/approach
This is a questionnaire study, and all the respondents are undergraduates in Barcelona, Spain. A total of 188 students are selected as survey subjects. Data collection applies the five-point Likert scale, and the collected information refers to demographic information and constructs related to the technology acceptance model (TAM) and theory of planned behaviour (TPB). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and partial least square (PLS) are used to examine the measurement model's convergent and discriminant validity and test the hypotheses implementing the bootstrapping method.
Findings
The results show perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU) are influential in forming an attitude (ATT), and PU could directly impact BI significantly. Additionally, the mediating role of ATT in the relationships amongst PU, PEOU and BI are investigated. Besides, perceived behavioural control (PBC) is found a critical variable and significantly impacts BI, whereas subjective norms (SN) is not found statistically significant in explaining BI in this study.
Originality/value
This study has confirmed that ATT has a positive mediation effect on PU, PEOU and BI. This study has also confirmed the validity and model fit of the incorporated model of TAM and TPB, which sufficiently accounts for the planned behavioural process of undergraduates to accept a MOOC and contributes to validating literature of the incorporated model of TAM and TPB. Besides, this study provides MOOCs managers with practical suggestions. First, ease-of-use interfaces should be designed and intensified. Second, more channels should be explored to satisfy students' needs. Third, managers should intensify the leverage of the systems and introduce the free trial period to new learners. Fourth, a bonus mechanism could be adopted to motivate students. Last, manager should intensify the construction of oral advertisements amongst students.
