Abstract

Normal components of B and the tangential components of H alike are needed for the force calculation. If the field is calculated numerically, only one of these components is known exactly (in numerical sense), the other one is known only approximately.

Abstract

An algorithm to study a 3D system with rotating field using complex A, A‐V formulation in finite difference solution is presented. Torque calculations are performed using volume Maxwell stress tensor. An eddy current tachometer is investigated. The numerical results are compared with those obtained by measurement.

Abstract

Presents 3D method for the computation of the winding current distribution and power losses of the electromagnetic gear. For a prescribed current obtained from measurement, the transient eddy current field is defined in terms of a magnetic vector potential and an electric scalar potential. From numerically obtained potentials the power losses are determined. The winding power losses calculation of an electromagnetic gear shows that a given course of the current generates skin effect and significantly changes the windings resistances. Also presents the designing method for reducing power losses.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to focus on the influence of electromagnetic field during the arc discharge carbon nanotubes synthesis. It proposes modeling of electromagnetic field distribution to calculate forces in the area of arcing. The paper presents the influence of this field on the final product of the synthesis.

Design/methodology/approach

A short literature review of the arc discharge systems supported by electromagnetic field is presented. The technical solution of the coil placement is discussed. An experimental research is described. The research system constructed preceded by a series of measurements and modeling is analyzed.

Findings

The paper describes the significant meaning of the electromagnetic field during the synthesis. The electromagnetic field forces the slow rotation of the carbon plasma column where carbon nanotubes are formed. It leads to the improvement in yield.

Research limitations/implications

Because the research is limited to one type of geometry of the reactor, the results may vary in different reactors. However, the influence of the electromagnetic field is confirmed. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to investigate the influence of the electromagnetic coil in the applied systems.

Practical implications

The systems with a coil inside the reactor require the application of complex cooling systems or/and additional screens. The work proposes a technical solution based on the coil placed outside the reactor. Therefore, it simplifies the construction and increases the yield.

Social implications

The high yield of the high-quality nanotubes opens new technical possibilities for electronics and electrical engineering.

Originality/value

The paper identifies a connection between the electromagnetic field, the arc discharge movement, plasma jet, carbon nanotubes containing deposit and the yield.

Abstract

The paper refers to the development process of corporate governance and shareholder activism in transition economies. It identifies the existing corporate governance structure as well as main problems analysing conflicts in Polish corporations portraying the shareholders' fight for control over the corporations. The analysis of several selected shareholder conflicts, referring particularly to the fights of dominant and minority shareholders allows to point out main shortcomings of corporate governance in transition economies. The lack of standards for corporate behaviour, the poor legal system characterized by weak enforcement of investor protection rights (law in action), the practically non‐existent shareholder litigation as well as the development stage of the shareholder activism. Finally, the paper attempts to trace the development of shareholder protection and ethical behaviour presenting the process of setting high standards for the corporate activity with the reference to transparency, the treatment of minority shareholders and the managerial accountability as well as the monitoring role of authorities carried out by Polish Securities and Exchange Commission and non‐governmental associations or business initiatives (Polish Institutes of Directors, Polish Institute for Investor Relations).

Abstract

Examines the seventeenth published year of the ITCRR. Runs the whole gamut of textile innovation, research and testing, some of which investigates hitherto untouched aspects. Subjects discussed include cotton fabric processing, asbestos substitutes, textile adjuncts to cardiovascular surgery, wet textile processes, hand evaluation, nanotechnology, thermoplastic composites, robotic ironing, protective clothing (agricultural and industrial), ecological aspects of fibre properties – to name but a few! There would appear to be no limit to the future potential for textile applications.
