Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate a real time 3D localization and mapping approach for the USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) robotic application, focusing on the performance and the accuracy of the General‐purpose computing on graphics processing units (GPGPU)‐based iterative closest point (ICP) 3D data registration implemented using modern GPGPU with FERMI architecture.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors put all the ICP computation into GPU, and performed the experiments with registration up to 106 data points. The main goal of the research was to provide a method for real‐time data registration performed by a mobile robot equipped with commercially available laser measurement system 3D. The main contribution of the paper is a new GPGPU based ICP implementation with regular grid decomposition. It guarantees high accuracy as equivalent CPU based ICP implementation with better performance.

Findings

The authors have shown an empirical analysis of the tuning of GPUICP parameters for obtaining much better performance (acceptable level of the variance of the computing time) with minimal lost of accuracy. Loop closing method is added and demonstrates satisfactory results of 3D localization and mapping in urban environments. This work can help in building the USAR mobile robotic applications that process 3D cloud of points in real time.

Practical implications

This work can help in developing real time mapping for USAR robotic applications.

Originality/value

The paper proposes a new method for nearest neighbor search that guarantees better performance with minimal loss of accuracy. The variance of computational time is much less than SoA.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to propose an efficient method, called kinodynamic velocity obstacle (KidVO), for motion planning of omnimobile robots considering kinematic and dynamic constraints (KDCs).

Design/methodology/approach

The suggested method improves generalized velocity obstacle (GVO) approach by a systematic selection of proper time horizon. Selection procedure of the time horizon is based on kinematical and dynamical restrictions of the robot. Toward this aim, an omnimobile robot with a general geometry is taken into account, and the admissible velocity and acceleration cones reflecting KDCs are derived, respectively. To prove the advantages of the suggested planning method, its performance is compared with GVOs, the so-called Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation and the rapidly exploring random tree.

Findings

The obtained results of the presented scenarios which contain both computer and real-world experiments for complicated crowded environments indicate the merits of the suggested methodology in terms of its near-optimal behavior, successful obstacle avoidance both in static and dynamic environments and reaching to the goal pose.

Originality/value

This paper proposes a novel method for online motion planning of omnimobile robots in dynamic environments while considering the real capabilities of the robot.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to describe green technological trajectories in eco‐industrial parks and reveal the effect of the selected environment on the trajectories in China, by means of case studies of the Lubei Group and the Guitang Group.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper opted for content analysis from various sources, including annual reports of listed companies, newspapers, web sites and academic articles. It adopts contrast analysis, in order to show the different technological evolution trend and the diversified dynamics of the selected environment.

Findings

The study provides the empirical insights about how green technology evolves and affects the evolution of the eco‐industrial park. The green technology development of the Lubei Group forms self‐reinforcing mechanism through learning process, economies of scale in production and network externalities, while that of the Guitang Group is under way. Additionally, the paper discusses how the selected environment affects the green technology, referring to the six factors constituting the selected environment: environmental regulation, financial support, knowledge accumulation, market environment, organizational culture and resource endowment.

Originality/value

The paper analyzes the evolution process, drivers and operational risks of eco‐industrial parks in the perspective of green technological trajectories. Some practical suggestions, such as eco‐industrial parks should put the focus on environmental intellectual property protection, green core competencies construction and green technology transfer strategies are proposed. What is more, the Lubei Group is a large, state‐owned enterprise and the Guitang Group used to be. The contrast analysis tends to disclose the context‐embedded knowledge of eco‐industrial parks development in an emerging market.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the paper is to determine the optimal conditions of the take-off and the optimal trajectory of the initial climb minimizing the fuel consumption of the aircraft aided in the ground phase of the take-off by the system using the MAGLEV technology.

Design/methodology/approach

The study concerned determining the optimal trajectory of the initial phase of the transport aircraft climb aided in the phase of acceleration by the system using the magnetic levitation phenomenon. The simplified algorithm of the Ritz–Galerkin method was used in this work which uses an approximate solution to boundary value problems for determining the optimal flight trajectory. It uses the method of approximation of the flight path by the third-degree polynomial. The method allows determining the optimal trajectory of the flight satisfying the initial/final conditions and control functions and path constrains for an aircraft. General stating of the task supposes determining the optimal trajectory of movement of a flying vehicle described by the system of ordinary differential equations. The resulting sparse non-linear programming problem has been solved using own elaborated software. The typical profiles computation has been performed with a tool combining three degree of freedom flight dynamics differential equations with procedure-oriented flight control.

Findings

Different conditions of the take-off of the aircraft aided by the ground system using the MAGLEV technology give possibilities to shape the trajectory of the initial stage of the aircraft climb after the lift-off to decrease the negative influence on the environment. Optimization of the departure trajectory minimizing fuel consumption or noise emissions can become the basis for working out new procedures for a new kind of take-off modified in relation to the optimal solution which will increase the safety of this segment of the flight.

Research limitations/implications

The analysis was carried out only for the departure trajectory to minimize fuel consumption, without investigation of possibilities of noise reduction. The trajectory guaranteeing minimization of the fuel consumption would also give a solution characterized by minimal emission of substances harmful for the environment.

Practical implications

Application of the innovatory solution of aided take-off is connected with modification of the climbing procedures after the take-off to minimize the negative effect of the aircraft on the surrounded environment. The results can become the basis for working out new procedures which will minimize negative influence to the natural environment in the vicinity of the airports of air transport and increase safety of the take-off and landing operations.

Originality/value

Innovative method of the take-off implies new shape of the trajectory. The study presents the results of the climb trajectory optimization of the aircraft supported at the ground stage by the technology using magnetic levitation phenomenon.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the existing knowledge system of lean supply chain management (LSCM), i.e. by using main path analysis, and the authors extract the main development track of LSCM. It is advantageous for relevant scholars to deepen their understanding of this academic field from a bibliometrics view to grasp the future directions better.

Design/methodology/approach

Structuring a citation network with the processed data set containing 866 papers and relevant information collected from Web of Science (WoS). Conducting review analyses aiming at the main paths that are extracted from the above citation network.

Findings

There are two different evolution paths in LSCM field, i.e. improving corporate sustainability performance through combining lean and green practices, and seeking the balance between lean and agility to structure leagile supply chain for specific industries. LSCM research studies mainly focus on five aspects: (1) establishment and development of LSCM theory; (2) structuration of lean supply chain; (3) research studies of the relationship between LSCM and corporate performance; (4) supply chain evaluation system; and (5) review and vista of LSCM field. The intersection of two knowledge evolute routes would be Industry 4.0, which is an integrated theory system combining lean, agility, green and other supply chain thinking.

Research limitations/implications

The data set collected from WoS cannot contain all the research studies about LSCM is the main research limitation. Sustainability, as represented by environmental performance, will continue to be a major pursuit of this field. Integrating LSCM in Industry 4.0 will be the next hotspot in LSCM field.

Practical implications

Providing the main research contents and common methods of LSCM field. It is conducive to deepening the understanding of relevant practitioners and scholars to LSCM field from a dynamic perspective.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, it is the first time to reveal the knowledge diffuse trajectories of LSCM under different view with main path analysis. This study is unique that it provides a new view to understand the field of LSCM.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to develop a proof-of-concept (POC) Forward Collision Warning (FWC) system for the motorcyclist, which determines a potential clash based on time-to-collision and trajectory of both the detected and ego vehicle (motorcycle).

Design/methodology/approach

This comes in three approaches. First, time-to-collision value is to be calculated based on low-cost camera video input. Second, the trajectory of the detected vehicle is predicted based on video data in the 2 D pixel coordinate. Third, the trajectory of the ego vehicle is predicted via the lean direction of the motorcycle from a low-cost inertial measurement unit sensor.

Findings

This encompasses a comprehensive Advanced FWC system which is an amalgamation of the three approaches mentioned above. First, to predict time-to-collision, nested Kalman filter and vehicle detection is used to convert image pixel matrix to relative distance, velocity and time-to-collision data. Next, for trajectory prediction of detected vehicles, a few algorithms were compared, and it was found that long short-term memory performs the best on the data set. The last finding is that to determine the leaning direction of the ego vehicle, it is better to use lean angle measurement compared to riding pattern classification.

Originality/value

The value of this paper is that it provides a POC FWC system that considers time-to-collision and trajectory of both detected and ego vehicle (motorcycle).

Abstract

Purpose

The main objective of this paper is to analyze works of literature on SRI sukuk to highlight the potential for these kinds of instruments in financing more sustainable financial systems (SFSs). The analysis mainly accentuates a dearth of knowledge on the various challenges and opportunities in the realm of SRI.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper pioneers the bibliometric and systematic literature review of the development of the SRI sukuk from 2016 (the first available year in the field) to and 2021.

Findings

The study findings highlighted several pertinent SRI issues: the lack of standardization due to the different interpretations of Shariah and green, the lack of retail investors, which inevitably produce a lack of liquidity in the secondary market, thus limiting their growth, its funding allocation’ close resemblance to green financing, and the role of Malaysia and Indonesia as global sustainable financial hubs to stimulate the development of Shariah-compliant sustainable instruments and contribute to the international debate about the building of a global standardized framework related to sustainable investments.

Originality/value

The integration of the environmental principles of a green bond with the Shariah-compliant financial structure of a sukuk, the SRI sukuk, represents a vital crossroad in both sustainable and Islamic finance. Social-impact sukuk and green sukuk is an undervalued instrument that could play an important role in financing a more sustainable economic and financial system, including Islamic investing. This kind of instruments, which is based on a “pay for success” principle in the conventional layout, perfectly fit with the profit-and-lost sharing’s (PLS's) ethicality, the sustainability principles of Islamic finance and the religious principles of Islamic law.

Abstract

Purpose

This study reveals the green building development path and analyzes the optimal government subsidy equilibrium through evolutionary game theory and numerical simulation. This was done to explore the feasible measures and optimal incentives to achieve higher levels of green building in China.

Design/methodology/approach

First, the practice of green building in China was analyzed, and the specific influencing factors and incentive measures for green building development were extracted. Second, China-specific evolutionary game models were constructed between developers and homebuyers under the market regulation and government incentive mechanism scenarios, and the evolutionary paths were analyzed. Finally, real-case numerical simulations were conducted, subsidy impacts were mainly analyzed and optimal subsidy equilibriums were solved.

Findings

(1) Simultaneously subsidizing developers and homebuyers proved to be the most effective measure to promote the sustainability of green buildings. (2) The sensitivity of developers and homebuyers to subsidies varied across scenarios, and the optimal subsidy level diminished marginally as building greenness and public awareness increased. (3) The optimal subsidy level for developers was intricately tied to the building greenness benchmark. A higher benchmark intensified the developer’s responsiveness to losses, at which point increasing subsidies were justified. Conversely, a reduction in subsidy might have been appropriate when the benchmark was set at a lower level.

Practical implications

The expeditious advancement of green buildings holds paramount importance for the high-quality development of the construction industry. Nevertheless, the pace of green building expansion in China has experienced a recent deceleration. Drawing insights from the practices of green building in China, the exploration of viable strategies and the determination of optimal government subsidies stand as imperative initiatives. These endeavors aim to propel the acceleration of green building proliferation and materialize high-quality development at the earliest juncture possible.

Originality/value

The model is grounded in China’s green building practices, which makes the conclusions drawn more specific. Furthermore, research results provide practical references for governments to formulate green building incentive policies.
