Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore the structural relationships among skepticism, experiential risk, cognitive dissonance, experiential quality, brand experience and experiential satisfaction, switching intentions and switching behavior from the perspective of green branding.

Design/methodology/approach

A questionnaire survey was used to collect data from consumers who had purchased environmental shampoos, obtaining 613 valid samples which were analyzed with structural equation modeling.

Findings

The results indicate that green brand experiential risk, green brand cognitive dissonance, green brand experiential quality and green brand experience influence green brand experiential satisfaction. In addition, green brand experiential satisfaction has an impact on green brand switching intentions, which, in turn, positively influence green brand switching behavior.

Practical implications

To decrease the perceptions of green brand skepticism, green brand experiential risk, green brand cognitive dissonance, green brand switching intentions and green brand switching behavior and increase the perceptions of green brand experiential quality, green brand experience and green brand experiential satisfaction, the findings will help environmental organizations develop and implement market-orientated product strategies.

Originality/value

The results provide a better understanding of the relationships among skepticism, experiential risk, cognitive dissonance, experiential quality, brand experience, experiential satisfaction, switching intentions and switching behavior in an environmental context.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to examine to what extent emotional experiences lived in mega-events and ecological orientation of citizens could act as direct antecedents of city brand attitude improvements. In addition, it addresses the effect in terms of a perceived quality of life that a city brand consolidation would be able to bring the citizens of a particular place. Cities must manage and administer their geographical territories as if they were brands, seeking to increase the benefits to society.

Design/methodology/approach

An empirical study was performed by collecting information from 398 residents of Aguascalientes (Mexico) during the National Fair of San Marcos in 2011.

Findings

Results show how in order to increase city brand attitudes, both the focus on mega-events and the ecological orientation are two successful ways. Moreover, improvements in city brand attitudes can bring significant benefits on the positive perception of quality of life among citizens.

Originality/value

This investigation has made progress in implementing the experiential marketing channeled through emotional experiences in mega-events and, particularly, in environmentally oriented mega-events, which is able to improve ecological orientation of citizens. To date, no evidence of empirical research referenced in mega-events of the features of the National Fair of San Marcos, Mexico, exists.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to use a multi-level model as a framework to examine the relationships among experiential quality, green emotional attachment, green image, green switching experience, green experiential satisfaction and green experiential loyalty for the green restaurant industry.

Design/methodology/approach

The data used in this study were based on a sample of 515 customers at a green restaurant in Taipei City of Taiwan. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling and hierarchical regression analysis.

Findings

The findings identify that interaction quality, peer-to-peer quality, physical environment quality, outcome quality, enjoyment quality and management quality influence experiential quality, which in turn results in green emotional attachment and green image respectively. Experiential quality, green image and green switching experience influence green experiential satisfaction, which in turn results in green emotional attachment. Green loyalty is influenced by green emotional attachment, green image, green experiential satisfaction and green switching experience. Green image moderates the relationships between experiential quality, physical environment quality and outcome quality.

Practical implications

To increase experiential quality and green emotional attachment, enhance green image, green experiential satisfaction and green loyalty and decrease green switching experience, the study findings will help green restaurant management develop and implement market-orientated service strategies.

Originality/value

This is the first study to investigate the effects of experiential quality, green emotional attachment, green image, green switching experience and green experiential satisfaction on green experiential loyalty in a green restaurant setting.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to fill a conceptual gap by identifying the dimensions of green experiential quality and empirically examining the interrelationships among green experiential quality, green equity, green image, green experiential satisfaction and green switching intention. A multi-dimensional model is used as a framework to synthesize the effects of green experiential quality, green equity, green image and green satisfaction on green switching intention of green hotel customers.

Design/methodology/approach

The data used in this study were collected from a sample of 535 customers staying in one green hotel of Taipei City, Taiwan. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling and hierarchical regression analysis.

Findings

The findings support a multi-dimensional model consisting of four dimensions (interaction quality, physical environment quality, access quality and administration quality) to conceptualize and measure perceived green experiential quality. Perceived green experiential quality significantly influences green equity and green image, which, in turn, result in green experiential satisfaction. Green switching intention is influenced by green experiential satisfaction and green image. However, outcome quality is not a component of perceived green experiential quality, which, in turn, insignificantly results in green experiential satisfaction. Green image plays a role in moderating the relationship between green experiential quality and interaction quality, outcome quality, access quality and administration quality.

Practical implications

To increase green experiential quality and green equity, enhance green image and green experiential satisfaction and decrease green switching intention, the finding of this study will help green hotel management to develop and implement market-oriented service strategies.

Originality/value

This is the first study to synthesize the effects of green experiential quality, green equity, green image and green experiential satisfaction on green switching intention in a green hotel setting.

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore the structural relationship between green persistence intentions and their seven drivers – green authenticity, green perceptual evaluation, green co-creation, green experiential memorability, green experiential satisfaction, green passionate love and green need for cognition in a green hotel context.

Design/methodology/approach

The data used in this study were based on a sample of 589 customers staying at one green hotel in New Taipei City of Taiwan. The predicted relationship was tested using the structural equation modeling and the hierarchical regression analysis.

Findings

The results indicate that green perceptual evaluation, green co-creation and green experiential memorability influence green experiential satisfaction. Green passionate love is influenced by green experiential satisfaction. Green need for cognition moderates the effect of green experiential satisfaction on green persistence intentions. Green persistence intentions are influenced by green experiential satisfaction and green passionate love.

Practical implications

To increase green authenticity, green perceptual evaluation, green co-creation, green experiential memorability, green experiential satisfaction, green passionate love, green need for cognition and green persistence intentions, the study findings will help green hotels to develop and implement market-orientated product and/or service strategies.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine the impact of five consumption values (i.e. ecological, functional, symbolic, experiential and epistemic) on consumers’ intentions to adopt green products. Using Thaler’s utility theory, the authors investigate the indirect effect of values on purchase intention through acquisition utility and transaction utility. Two moderators (materialism orientation and value consciousness) further influence the strength of the effect of consumption values on transaction utility.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors used a survey design (N = 437 Chinese customers recruited through a Chinese online panel provider) and structural equation modeling (SEM) to test six hypothesized relationships in the proposed model. Moderated SEM was used for moderation analysis.

Findings

Most hypothesized relationships in the model were confirmed, with the exception of the functional value–transaction utility link and the moderating effect of materialism on the experiential value–transaction utility relationship.

Research limitations/implications

Larger-scale research may help to determine whether there are more significant differences in consumer evaluations of different types of green products.

Practical implications

As the concept of green marketing in China evolves, firms should continue to stress the importance and value of green products regarding individuals’ care for the environment, status and self-image. Further, firms should conduct systematic utility analyses and address acquisition and price equity in a strategic process.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to adapt utility theory to green consumption and proposes a clearly defined and well-substantiated set of utility types by merging economic and green consumption literature.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine the structural relationship between brand supportive intentions and their seven drivers.

Design/methodology/approach

A questionnaire survey was used to collect data from respondents who had purchased ASUS products, obtaining 546 valid samples which were analyzed with structural equation modeling and hierarchical regression modeling.

Findings

Results indicate that positive brand perceptual evaluation and brand co-creation significantly positively influence brand experiential satisfaction, whereas brand regret significantly negatively influences brand experiential satisfaction. In addition, brand experiential satisfaction has a positive influence on brand love, which, in turn, leads to brand supportive intentions. Moreover, brand supportive intentions are positively influenced by brand experiential satisfaction. In addition, brand need for cognition moderates the effect of brand experiential satisfaction on brand supportive intentions.

Research limitations/implications

Future studies should focus on the respondents who purchase other branded products and compare their findings with this study.

Practical implications

Investing resources in the increase of brand perceptual evaluation, brand co-creation, brand experiential satisfaction, brand love and brand need for cognition and the decrease of brand regret is helpful to enhance brand supportive intentions.

Originality/value

This paper provides data that lead to a better understanding of the relationship between relationship brand supportive intentions and their seven drivers in a branding context.

Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to develop and test a relationship-building model for green brands. It synthesizes findings on the consumer motives offered by green brands, with relationship marketing and branding literature to the specific context of green brands to build a parsimonious model testing the links amongst four relational benefits, i.e. confidence, socialization, self-expression and altruism; two relational mediators, i.e. satisfaction and relationship quality; three behavioural outcomes, i.e. word-of-mouth, expectation of continuity and cross-buying; and two moderators of the benefits-mediators relationship, i.e. environmental consciousness and relationship length.

Design/methodology/approach

Data are collected from consumers of three brands of natural cosmetic products, totalling 848 questionnaires. Structural equation modelling is used to test the hypothesized relationships across the three brands.

Findings

The results show that confidence benefit has the strongest influence on relationship quality, followed by self-expression and altruism. Relationships quality and satisfaction with the green brand have a significant impact on all three behavioural outcomes. Both environmental consciousness and length of the relationship moderate the hypothesized interrelationships.

Research limitations/implications

A new set of relational benefits for the green context is suggested. Several future research opportunities are suggested.

Practical implications

The study offers suggestions for managers to leverage relationship benefits for relationship strengthening.

Originality/value

No previous work has studied in an integrated way the relationship benefits and mediators to model the consumer–green brand relationship. The study provides a better understanding of the antecedents of consumer loyalty towards green brands.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to test the relationships among the experiential quality dimensions, the green relationship quality dimensions, environmental friendliness, green support, green desire and green experiential loyalty in a green bed & breakfast (B&B) context.

Design/methodology/approach

The data used in this study are based on a sample of 517 customers staying at one green B&B in Yilan County of Taiwan. The predicted relationship is tested using structural equation modeling.

Findings

The empirical findings reveal the following: five dimensions (peer-to-peer quality, physical environment quality, outcome quality, venue quality and administration quality) constitute a multidimensional model to conceptualize and measure perceived experiential quality that can achieve green experiential satisfaction in addition to environmental friendliness; environmental friendliness has a direct influence on green trust and green experiential satisfaction, which has a positive significant influence on green support and green desire; and green trust, green experiential satisfaction and green support contribute to green experiential loyalty.

Practical implications

To increase the perceptions of experiential quality dimensions, green relationship quality dimensions, environmental friendliness, green support, green desire and green experiential loyalty, the findings of this study will help green B&B management develop and implement market-orientated service strategies.

Originality/value
