Abstract
Purpose
To augment the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, the Indian Government introduced the pre-packaged insolvency process exclusively for small and medium firms. This paper aims to critically review some of the key features of the process and also identifies potential glitches imminent in the initial years of implementation.
Design/methodology/approach
This study is descriptive and based on secondary data. The provisions of the pre-pack scheme, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and reports on the progress of insolvency resolution in India are used to substantiate the observations.
Findings
This study shows that pre-packs would certainly help enhance the small and medium enterprise insolvency resolution process in India. However, the ambitious time frame can be adhered to only if the institutional framework for bankruptcy is strengthened.
Research limitations/implications
This paper is based on the initial regulatory provisions of the pre-pack process. Subsequent changes in regulations may affect the findings.
Practical implications
Some of the concerns in the process and the changes required to facilitate a smooth, speedy and efficient resolution process have been highlighted in this study.
Originality/value
Pre-packs are a very recent introduction to the insolvency regime in India. This paper makes a fervent attempt to explain the pre-pack process and the outcomes that can be expected in the early years after its rollout.

Abstract
A power unit for aircraft and the like comprising, an internal combustion engine, a variable pitch propeller, a supercharger for said engine, a compressor, a series of combustion chambers surrounding said compressor and connected to be supplied by said compressor, each of said combustion chambers terminating rearwardly in a propulsion jet, means for clutching said propeller to be driven by said engine, and drive means connecting said engine to the drive shafts of said supercharger and said compressor.

Abstract
OUR various accounts of the Portsmouth Conference, and the official record of it which is now in the hands of readers shows that it may be regarded as a successful one. It was specially notable for the absence of those bickerings and differences which must inevitably come to the surface at times. There may be something in the suggestion of one of our writers that the weather was a main factor. However that may be, there was uniform good temper, and we came away with the belief that a good week's work for librarianship had been done.

Abstract
Purpose
By investigating the use of formal compensation practices in family small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the purpose of this paper is to provide important new insights in these issues for academics, as well as family business practitioners, prospective applicants and financiers of family businesses. Moreover, this study includes a contingency that allows to explore heterogeneity across family businesses in their use of formal compensation practices: the CEO type.
Design/methodology/approach
A survey of 124 small- and medium-sized Belgian family businesses to explore the use of formal compensation practices is analyzed by the author.
Findings
The results support the hypothesis that family firms with a family CEO adopt significantly less formal compensation practices than their counterparts that are led by a non-family CEO.
Research limitations/implications
Generalizing the findings of this study must be taken with care, as the findings are based on a cross-sectional sample of family SMEs in one country, Belgium. Future research can build on these findings with studies on larger samples in other countries.
Practical implications
This study may be interesting for family business practitioners and consultants, as it provides insight in the actual use of formal compensation practices that are recommended as a best practice in numerous practitioner handbooks. Also, the results of this study might be important for prospective applicants and financiers, since the compensation system is an important communication device to signal legitimacy to external stakeholders.
Originality/value
Compensation issues are among the main challenges SMEs, especially family firms, face. Despite the clear importance of this matter, academic interest has been rather limited. This paper therefore displays sound descriptive survey results and empirically investigates the determinants of the use of formal compensation practices in Belgian family SMEs by distinguishing between different types of family businesses.

To examine the role of new aeronautical technologies in improving commercial aviation’s environmental performance.
Abstract
Purpose
To examine the role of new aeronautical technologies in improving commercial aviation’s environmental performance.
Methodology/approach
Reviews the environmental improvements that may be conferred through the adoption of alternative aviation fuels and new airframe, engine and navigation technologies.
Findings
Although aeronautical technologies have evolved considerably since the earliest days of powered flight, the aviation industry is now reaching a point of diminishing returns as growing global consumer demand for air transport outstrips incremental improvements in environmental efficiency. The chapter describes some of the technological interventions that are being pursued to improve aviation’s environmental performance and discusses the extent to which these innovations will help to deliver a more sustainable aviation industry.

Abstract
At a recent inquest upon the body of a woman who was alleged to have died as the result of taking certain drugs for an improper purpose, one of the witnesses described himself as “an analyst and manufacturing chemist,” but when asked by the coroner what qualifications he had, he replied : “I have no qualifications whatever. What I know I learned from my father, who was a well‐known ‘F.C.S.’” Comment on the “F.C.S.” is needless.
