Abstract
Purpose
Changing the product characteristics and demand quantity resulting from the variability of the modern market leads to re-assigned tasks and changing the cycle time on the production line. Therefore, companies need re-balancing of their assembly line instead of balancing. The purpose of this paper is to propose an efficient algorithm approach for U-type assembly line re-balancing problem using stochastic task times.
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, a genetic algorithm is proposed to solve approach for U-type assembly line re-balancing problem using stochastic task times.
Findings
The performance of the genetic algorithm is tested on a wide variety of data sets from literature. The task times are assumed normal distribution. The objective is to minimize total re-balancing cost, which consists of workstation cost, operating cost and task transposition cost. The test results show that proposed genetic algorithm approach for U-type assembly line re-balancing problem performs well in terms of minimizing total re-balancing cost.
Practical implications
Demand variation is considered for stochastic U-type re balancing problem. Demand change also affects cycle time of the line. Hence, the stochastic U-type re-balancing problem under four different cycle times are analyzed to present practical case.
Originality/value
As per the authors’ knowledge, it is the first time that genetic algorithm is applied to stochastic U-type re balancing problem. The large size data set is generated to analyze performance of genetic algorithm. The results of proposed algorithm are compared with ant colony optimization algorithm.

Abstract
Along with accounting scandals in the past, academics, researchers, and legislators have focused on fraud. The purpose of this study is to examine postgraduate and doctoral studies, articles, and books about forensic accounting and fraud audit published between the years 2008 and 2018 in Turkey. For this purpose, a total of 96 studies have been examined and 35 of these are master’s theses, 10 of them are PhD theses, 45 of them are articles, and six of them are books. These studies were presented in tables as classified. The studies examined in our research are summarized as year they were published, the author, and the scope of the topic and in terms of results. The conclusions of this study can be summarized as follows: (a) the majority of thesis published about forensic accounting and fraud audit are in 2011 and following years. In addition, most of the theses are focused on forensic accounting review rather than fraud audit. (b) Results in the articles reviewed are in the same direction with theses. (c) There are very few books about fraud audit and forensic accounting. One of them is related to fraud audit, while the rest of them are related to forensic accounting and forensic accounting profession. We suggest extending the scope of the study and making to other countries.

Abstract
Purpose
Celiac disease patients cannot consume gluten-containing diets; thus, gluten-free products should be offered to meet the nutritional needs of these patients. The purpose of this study was to produce gluten-free tarhana for celiac disease patients using corn flour instead of wheat flour and investigate some physicochemical properties of tarhana. Hydrocolloids were used to compensate for technological deficiencies caused by the absence of gluten.
Design/methodology/approach
Hydrocolloids including guar gum, xanthan gum and locust bean gum were added at concentrations of 0.5% and 1.0% to the corn flour. The substituted corn flour samples were used to produce tarhana powder.
Findings
The pH and acidity measurements were carried out in 0th, 24th and 48th h of fermentation, and for all samples, the pH gradually decreased during fermentation, whereas the acidity increased. According to the color measurements (L, a and b values), it was observed that there was no significant difference (p = 0.588) between the gums in terms of L values in tarhana dough samples. Water retention capacity values of control, guar gum 1%, xanthan gum 1% and locust bean gum 1% were found to be 1.1, 1.1, 0.7 and 1.2 mL/g, respectively. The viscosity measurements were carried out at three different temperatures (30°C, 45°C and 60°C), and the viscosity values were found to decrease significantly (p = 0.000) with the increase in temperature for all the samples studied. The highest viscosity values were obtained by 1.0% xanthan gum (4,333 mPa s) and 0.5% locust bean gum (3,575 mPa s) added tarhana samples for 3 rpm at 30°C. Xanthan gum addition showed the lowest foam capacity values (0.04 mL/mL) among the samples. The samples with guar gum, xanthan gum and locust bean gum are recommended with regard to consistency and foam stability in the production of tarhana.
Originality/value
This study confirms that the use of gums in tarhana, a gluten-free system, is beneficial for the technological aspect. The unfavorable properties that can be seen because of the absence of gluten in corn flour tarhana can be compensated with the use of hydrocolloids, and tarhana can be recommended to celiac disease patients.

Abstract
Purpose
Using the attitudes of students toward ideal banking services, the purpose of this paper is to examine the structure of banking-related SERVQUAL service dimensions with first-order and second-order confirmatory factors analysis. Following this, a study model was suggested to describe the relationship between the perceptions of students regarding the services provided by their banks and their overall level of satisfaction with the bank.
Design/methodology/approach
The sample group for the study comprised students from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Eskisehir Osmangazi University. The sample included 441 students, and was designed according to a stratified and proportional distribution. The first-order and second order confirmatory factor model used to confirm the structure of the SERVQUAL service dimensions presented in the study was found to be suitable and compatible. The relationship of the SERVQUAL service dimensions based on the actual perception of banking services by the students with the students’ satisfaction and loyalty to their banks was investigated using a structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis.
Findings
Based on the study results, it was concluded that the confidence inspired by the banks, the reliability of their services, and the physical appearance and accessibility of the bank all have an effect in increasing customer satisfaction.
Originality/value
Conducting this study using university students, who represent a specific group, will help in determining whether the quality of banking services provided to students is, in itself, sufficient to make them prefer these banks. Furthermore, the study will also shed light on various other aspects, such as the banks’ efforts at reviewing and developing the services they provide to students.

Abstract
Purpose
The main aim of this study is to determine the factors that influence the housing demand of households in Erzurum, northeastern Turkey. Housing demand is generally affected by several factors including housing prices, individuals’ income, expectations and choices and so on, as a means of its demographic and socio-psychological contexts.
Design/methodology/approach
A questionnaire-based cross-sectional survey was carried out, in which the outcome variable had binary responses such as whether to invest in housing or not. A binary logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the underlying data.
Findings
The questionnaire was conducted in 2,927 households living in Erzurum city center, and 47 per cent of the respondents claimed that they would consider investing in housing in the future. The estimation results reveal that demographic or socio-economic factors that may possibly influence housing demand of the respondents are as follows: household head’s and spouse’s occupation, monthly income, the number of individuals in the family and car ownership.
Originality/value
This paper involves the most comprehensive survey addressing the housing demand in the East Anatolian Region, Turkey. Additionally, this paper aims to contribute to the existing housing literature through establishing the statistical analysis of housing demand in an unstudied territory of the world.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to integrate the proactive role of communities and the use of flood modeling in the implementation of a flood early warning system.
Design/methodology/approach
Manual rain gauges were installed in 20 houses of volunteers living within the Bicol River basin to monitor rainfall. Rain information is sent twice daily via SMS message to a receiving computer. The received data are used to run a basin model that was developed in HEC‐HMS, which converts precipitation excess to overland flow and channel run‐off.
Findings
Different watershed models were developed for different rainfall events. Geomorphic analysis using 3 s SRTM Digital Elevation Model (DEM) processed in a GIS platform was also done to refine the overland flow. The derived hydrographs were used in the HEC‐RAS hydraulic model which has as main output threshold values for the rain‐flood relationship.
Research limitations/implications
Although SRTM DEM that was used for the geomorphic analysis was sufficient for the purpose of the study, higher resolution DEMs can further improve the mapping of spatial extent of flood areas.
Practical implications
The results are used for the forecast of flood and the timely issuance of flood bulletins.
Originality/value
This study is the first to incorporate the involvement of the community in establishing a flood early warning system. The method can also be used as a prototype for other flood models in other parts of the country.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the proximate composition, amino acid and mineral profiles of seafood for human consumption.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 21 seafood species (eight seawater, one fresh water fish, six crustacean and six mollusc species) of commercial importance were chosen and purchased from the Istanbul local fish market. The sample to amino acids analyze was prepared in accordance with the hydrolysis technique described by Waters AccQ.Tag Chemistry Package Method (HPLC). Determination of iron (Fe), sodium (Na), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), selenium (Se), phosphorus (P) and iodine (I) was performed with thermo electron X7 inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP‐MS).
Findings
The lipid contents of species were found to be very low and considered as lean. The highest total amino acid values of fishes, crustaceans and molluscs were determined in John Dory, hake, red scorpion fish, spiny lobster, Norway lobster, sea snail and pecten. The mineral content of seafood species were found to be 9.3‐157.11 mg/kg Fe, 558.13‐6095.89 mg/kg Na, 253.25‐1032.29 mg/kg Mg, 125.43‐17174.76 mg/kg Ca, 0.18‐7.76 mg/kg Se, 1586.45‐5811.16 mg/kg P and 0.086‐2.630 mg/kg I.
Originality/value
This paper is helpful to consumers and academics concerning the proximate, amino acid and mineral composition of 21 estimable seafood species (nine fish, six crustacean and six mollusc species).

Subjects discussed include cotton fabric processing, asbestos substitutes, textile adjuncts to cardiovascular surgery, wet textile processes, hand evaluation, nanotechnology, thermoplastic composites, robotic ironing, protective clothing (agricultural and industrial), ecological aspects of fibre properties – to name but a few! There would appear to be no limit to the future potential for textile applications.

Abstract
This chapter presents findings of an ongoing project on the social construction of ethnic identity among young Kurdish immigrants living in Turkey. The chapter begins with information on Kurdish culture. The second part overviews the difficult relations between the Turkish state and Kurds since establishment of the Republic in 1923. The third section describes the education system in the country and in Istanbul specifically. Historical ties between the Istanbul and Kurdish culture are also mentioned. The chapter closes with research that focuses on problems of Kurdish educational experiences in Turkey and preservation of their cultural identity in Istanbul. The study shows that on the one hand public education is perceived by the Kurds in Turkey as a discriminatory entity but on the other hand nonpublic educational opportunities in Istanbul help Kurdish migrants preserve and practice their cultural identity.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to explore the interactions between commuters with disabilities and transport services providers and to contribute to a better understanding of transformative service design, ensuring equitable access and the overall well-being of individuals.
Design/methodology/approach
This study collected qualitative data through ethnographic fieldwork and interviews with commuters with disabilities and transport services providers. The data were thematically analysed using NVivo.
Findings
Evidence suggests that there are opportunities for service users to be included in the co-creation of transformative transport service at different stages of a journey: entering service interaction, transitioning through service interaction and exiting service interaction. However, the reluctance of service providers to transform their services was recognised, due to a lack of awareness, interest, regulator demands and financial capabilities.
Research limitations/implications
This study broadens the comprehension of procedures and strategies for engaging consumers experiencing vulnerabilities in transformative service design and pushes the limits of the current understanding to recognise the inherent challenges of unregulated service providers designing transformative services in an unregulated market.
Practical implications
This newfound knowledge is crucial for developing better approaches that cater to the needs of these individuals and further contributes towards developing transformative service initiatives, which are activities that serve people experiencing vulnerabilities and that try to improve their well-being. These include specialised training and social marketing campaigns for service providers in the informal market and new mobility start-ups or social enterprises with the potential to disrupt the informal economy and offer innovative solutions, such as assistive technologies, mobile apps and journey planners that provide exceptional customer service.
Originality/value
Previous studies on transformative service designs have focused on regulated service providers, such as health care and financial services. This study, however, explores the unregulated transport sector in a developing country and recognises how the intricate nature of informal service provision may jeopardise the prospects of developing a transformative service for consumers experiencing vulnerabilities.
