Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to use Motivating Language Theory (MLT) as a framework in determining leader use of different language styles during times of dynamic change.
Design/methodology/approach
This exploratory study of executive members of the Australian Institute of Management examined how MLT may provide a mechanism for analyzing what leaders say in the context of a work setting. Written transcripts of interview data were analyzed to determine leaders’ use of three language styles: meaning-making (locutionary), direction giving (perlocutionary), and empathetic (illocutionary) language. The software program NVivo was used to help aggregate themes emerging from written and interview data into discrete modules to enable more robust and comprehensive analysis of the data.
Findings
A range of issues pertinent to the way executives lead and manage their businesses, both in private and not-for-profit organizations, was identified in this study. Direction giving language was most prominent in management activities and leadership that was strategic or people related, followed by meaning-making and empathetic language. The findings suggest that business leaders could develop a repertoire of language approaches in order to achieve organizational outcomes.
Research limitations/implications
More research of the language of leadership and its implications for organizational outcomes is warranted. For instance, the strategic integration of motivating language with a compatible set of leader behaviors, organizational objectives, and cultures may reveal mechanisms as yet unknown for achieving outcomes. Research is needed to determine the content and construct of these behaviors, objectives, and cultures. Some questions also remain regarding the appropriateness of using the Motivating Language Scale to examine the types of language used by managers and leaders in the work place. The authors recommend further application of MLT through the Motivating Language Scale in order to help clarify these queries.
Originality/value
This paper used MLT as a framework for identifying leader use of different language styles during times of dynamic change. MLT has been used to identify the speech patterns of leaders during verbal communication exchanges with staff and work colleagues, but this study is the first example of the use of MLT when examining leader responses to interviews and in their written responses to survey questions.

Abstract
Purpose
The COVID-19 pandemic offered a unique glimpse into the resilience of construction projects, shedding light on several learning opportunities. The purpose of this paper is to develop propositions for the improvement of resilient performance in construction in the post-pandemic era.
Design/methodology/approach
The propositions were developed based on an empirical study in Brazil. Data collection involved the analysis of regulations, interviews with health experts, managers, and workers, in addition to non-participant observations of the use of 37 control practices in 39 construction sites comparing the work-as-imagined and the work-as-done. The practices were classified in a hierarchy of controls.
Findings
Seven propositions for the improvement of resilient performance were developed, addressing collaboration between construction companies, slack resources, new health and safety practices, production planning and control, digital technologies, visual management, and organizational culture. These propositions emphasize organizational support for resilience. This is in contrast to the nature of most observed practices (57%) that relied on administrative controls and personal protective equipment, which are measures dependent on behaviors that resemble resilience at the individual level.
Originality/value
Although much has been studied on COVID-19 implications for construction projects, previous empirical studies have not adopted the organizational resilience perspective as the main theoretical background.

Abstract
The scientific and professional accounting and auditing community has been widely discussing the transformation of the information environment for presenting the results of business conduct by commercial entities in the field of sustainable development in three vectors: environmental impact assessment, impact assessment for compliance with human rights and solving socially important tasks, and assessment of corporate governance efficiency. Cash flows are an important object of financial accounting in companies. Cash flows combine indicators used to make key decisions and reflect the effectiveness of compliance with corporate policies and implementation of sustainable development programs. Today's external environment is predetermined by the need to make financial decisions in real time. Thus, it is necessary to understand what cash flow the company has and what type of activity will generate cash flows in the future. Therefore, companies need to be guided by national and international accounting and financial reporting standards in terms of analytical disclosure of cash flow information in the sustainable development context. The presented research considers the conceptual apparatus, historical aspects of the accounting category “cash flows,” and contemporary approaches to forming cash flow reporting in accordance with certain provisions of international standards. The authors provide recommendations on developing cash flow accounting and reporting in the context of new requirements of international standards. The presented research discloses practice-oriented recommendations on forming the company's cash flow statements, as well as methodological aspects of analyzing financial statements on cash flows as an additional information environment for making decisions on the main and additional financing of various business areas.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper examines social loafing (SL) in Mexican workers, introducing relationship meaningfulness (RM) and revisiting the impact of expectation on co-workers (ECW) and task meaningfulness (TM) on SL.
Design/methodology/approach
This research study used 697 questionnaires reporting results on descriptive statistics, correlations and the analysis of variance (ANOVA).
Findings
Results indicated that ECW, RM and SL are negatively related and there is no significant relationship between TM and SL for the Mexican sample.
Research limitations/implications
This paper links three relevant fields: SL, work meaningfulness (WM) and Latin American management and expands workplace theories of effort by adding RM and demonstrating this negatively relates to SL. Also, by showing RM may be more relevant than TM on reducing SL in Mexican workers.
Practical implications
This paper assists in the control for conditions that can cause SL and helps to devise interventions that motivate Mexican workers.
Originality/value
Novelty resides in the inclusion of RM as a new variable in SL studies. Also, in showing how RM fits better than TM as means to motivate Mexican workers, connecting with WM. Finally, proving relevance of examining co-workers and not only supervisors' evaluations.

Este artículo examina la holgazanería social (HS) en trabajadores mexicanos, introduciendo el significado de la relación (SR) y revisitando el impacto de las expectativas en los compañeros de trabajo (ECT) y el significado de la tarea (ST) en la HS.
Diseño/metodología/enfoque
Esta investigación usa 697 cuestionarios reportando resultados de estadística descriptiva, correlaciones y ANOVAs.
Resultados
Los resultados sugieren que ECT, SR y HS están negativamente relacionados y no existe relación significativa entre ST y HS en los trabajadores mexicanos.
Implicaciones en la Investigación
Este artículo conecta tres importantes campos del conocimiento: HS, aquello que es significativo del trabajo (STb) y Gestión en Latinoamérica y expande las teorías de esfuerzo en el lugar de trabajo demostrando que las relaciones interpersonales están asociadas a la holgazanería social. También, mostrando que SR puede ser más relevante para reducir HS que ST en trabajadores mexicanos.
Implicaciones en la práctica
Este artículo apoya en el control de condiciones que causan la holgazanería social y ayuda a diseñar intervenciones que puedan motivar mejor a los trabajadores mexicanos.
Originalidad/valor
La originalidad radica en la inclusión de SR como nueva variable en estudios de HS. También, al mostrar como SR encaja mejor que ST como medio de motivación de trabajadores mexicanos, vinculándolo con STb. Finalmente, prueba la importancia de examinar las evaluaciones de los compañeros y no sólo de supervisores.

Abstract
Purpose
The research provides a systematic literature review on the environmental sustainability of the globe artichoke [Cynara cardunculus L. var. scolymus (L.) Fiori], in the cultivated cardoon [Cynara cardunculus L. var. altilis DC.] and in the wild cardoon [Cynara cardunculus L. var. sylvestris (Lamk)] supply chains, to fill in the literature data gaps and to identify new research directions.
Design/methodology/approach
In the light of the PRISMA standard guidelines, the research provides a systematic literature review according to six research strings on Scopus and Web of Science. 45 scientific articles have been selected out of 407 contributions. Data have been synthesized according to a co-word analysis through the VOSviewer software, to provide insights into the structure of the research network, to offer a multidimensional scaling and clustering into research groups and to discuss the results.
Findings
The research identifies five main research trends: (1) biomass-to-bioenergy or biomass-to-biocomposite materials; (2) waste-to-bioenergy or waste-to-bioproducts; (3) crop management to increase yield productivity; (4) environmental impacts assessment; (5) irrigation water management. Besides, the research highlights momentous challenges and adopted strategies to tackle climate change and to reduce natural resources consumption, as well as the nexus between circular economy and environmental impact assessment.
Originality/value
The novelty of this study relies on the fact that it analyses the environmental sustainability of the Cynara cardunculus L. spp. Supply chain in a systematic way, giving the opportunity to identify future research directions regarding the environmental impacts associated with agricultural production and industrial transformation.
