As a result of reorganisation within the Company, AVX Limited have appointed Keith France as General Manager, Sales and Marketing. Previously General Manager, Sales, Europe, Mr France now assumes the added responsibility for the marketing of AVX products throughout Europe.

Hanau was then a centre for the jewellery manufacturing industry (and remains so today) so the smelting of platinum and other precious metals had an immediate commercial relevance.

David Tuffield, former UK marketing manager for Augat/Isotronics, has been appointed European marketing manager to head the company's plans to increase penetration into this expanding hybrid micropackaging industry. He will be responsible for the complete marketing and sales effort for micropackaging products providing the interface between US manufacturing facilities and Augat subsidiary product managers.

Present and future development of laser processing as a production technique for modifying semiconductor devices, improving yields, and decreasing development times are described. Current applications covered include thick‐ and thin‐film resistor trimming, deposited film and polysilicon resistors on silicon trimming and redundant memory repair. Emerging applications include microcircuit mask making and capacitor trimming. Examples of processes still under development include selective annealing, minority‐carrier lifetime doping, and device diagnostics by laser imaging.

National Starch & Chemical Corporation announces the appointment of Peter Nitzschke from 1 April as its territory manager for Germany for EMCA‐Remex, Ablestik and Thermid products. Mr Nitzschke has extensive commercial business experience in microelectronics and will be based in National Starch & Chemical Company in Neustadt.
