Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate quality of work life (QWL) as a partial mediator of the impact of psychological capital (PsyCap) on service recovery performance (SRP) and turnover intentions (TI).
Design/methodology/approach
Data were obtained from 288 frontline employees in ten five-star hotels with a one-month time lag in three waves in Busan, Korea. Structural equation modeling was used to assess the direct and mediating effects.
Findings
As expected, PsyCap heightens QWL and SRP, while it reduces propensity to leave the current organization. QWL partially mediates the association between PsyCap and the two critical outcomes.
Practical Implications
Management of hotels should recognize the importance of PsyCap and assess candidates’ PsyCap during selection process. Using the PsyCap questionnaire, organizations can select candidates who possess positive personal resources. In addition, hotels may consider the assessment of frontline employees’ PsyCap to ascertain which employees can succeed in challenging situations. It is also important to create a healthy and happy environment where employees are willing to be more productive and contribute more to organizational performance.
Originality/value
The extant hospitality research is devoid of empirical evidence about the outcomes of PsyCap and QWL such as SRP.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to prepare third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) organic materials with large nonlinear optimization value, high damage threshold and ultrafast response time.
Design/methodology/approach
A series of novel symmetric and asymmetric compounds possessing third-order NLO properties were synthesized using 1,3,5-tribromobenzene as the basis. The photophysical and electrochemical properties, as well as the click reactions, were characterized by means of UV–VIS–NIR absorption spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry.
Findings
The donor–acceptor chromophores were inserted into compound, making the molecule to have a broader absorption in the near-infrared regions and a narrower optical and electrochemical band gap. It also formed an electron-delocalized organic system, which has larger effects on achieving a third-order NLO response. The third-order NLO phenomenon of benzene ring complexes was experimentally studied at 532 nm using Z-scan technology, and some compounds showed the expected NLO properties.
Originality/value
The click products exhibit more NLO phenomena by performing different click combinations to the side groups, opening new perspectives on using the system in a variety of photoelectric applications.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to compare the electronic properties of perylene diimide derivatives (DFPDI) and its anion radical (DFPDI.-k.+) thin film by drop-coating of organic molecules on the interdigitated electrodes.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors compared the electronic properties of perylene diimide derivatives and its anion radical by drop-coating of organic molecules on interdigitated electrodes. Significantly, the current of perylene diimide derivatives anion radical increased by 2∼3 orders of magnitude compared to perylene diimide derivatives under a bias of 5 V, and the maximal current of anion radical that from tetrahydrofuran solution can reach 3.6 mA. Furthermore, DFPDI.-k.+ thin film showed time-resistance sensitivity for acetic acid. When DFPDI.-k.+ thin film was placed in acetic acid of 3.1 × 105 ppm, the current was decreased 46 times under a bias of 6 V after 8 min.
Findings
We developed the new method to prepare ambient stable perylene diimide derivatives anion radical, which shows sensitivity of absorption spectra to acid.
Originality/value
Perylene diimide derivatives anion radical thin film showed time-resistance sensitivity for acetic acid, suggesting potential application of perylene diimide derivatives anion radical as acid sensor.

Abstract
Purpose
Currently, conjugated nonlinear optical (NLO) materials suffer from the drawbacks of complex manufacturing process and high cost. To further study the NLO materials with cost-effective, it is necessary to prepare new NLO materials with satisfactory performance.
Design/methodology/approach
Pyrene derivatives with good third-order NLO properties were synthesized by combining pyrene compounds with TCNE, TCNQ, F4-TCNQ and other molecular systems by clicking chemical method.
Findings
The pyrene derivatives were characterized by ultraviolet spectrum and Z-scan. The charge-transfer of the D-p-A structures plays a key role in the absorption peak shifts. And the third-order nonlinear absorption of the products revealed good third-order NLO susceptibilities.
Research limitations/implications
The synthesis technology of pyrene derivatives is not mature enough and is in the preliminary exploration stage. So, the authors produced a relatively small number of samples and did not conduct a very comprehensive test.
Practical implications
This novel pyrene derivative is suggestive and can promote the exploration and development of the third-order nonlinear materials.
Originality/value
Four new pyrene derivatives were synthesized by selecting new molecular systems. Because of its good chemical properties and stable properties, it can be a reference for the development of third-order nonlinear materials in the future.

Abstract
Purpose
The geological conditions of Longyang Reservoir are complex and it is located in strong earthquake area. In order to determine its seismic characteristics, the seismic response and residual deformation of embankment dam should be studied to provide calculation basis for dam design and construction.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the geological survey data of Longyang Reservoir, the dam filling materials are tested by dynamic deformation tests, and the equivalent linear constitutive model parameters of the filling materials are obtained. Based on Duncan-Chang E-B model, the stress state of embankment dam in Longyang Reservoir before earthquake is calculated, and the dynamic response and earthquake residual deformation of embankment dam in Longyang Reservoir under earthquake condition are calculated by using equivalent linear model and Shen Zhu-jiang’s residual deformation model.
Findings
The results show that with the increase of dynamic shear strain, the dynamic shear modulus decreases and the damping ratio increases. The scatter plot between dynamic shear modulus and dynamic shear strain, and the scatter plot between damping ratio and dynamic shear strain under different confining pressures show strips. The calculation results shows that the acceleration of embankment dam in Longyang Reservoir increases with the increase of dam height, and the acceleration distribution has obvious amplification effect. Combined with the maximum dynamic shear strain during the earthquake and the state before the earthquake, the maximum vertical residual deformation of embankment dam in Longyang Reservoir is 2.98 cm which occurs at the top of the dam, calculated by the Shen Zhu-jiang’s residual deformation model.
Originality/value
Finite element calculation model parameters of embankment dam are obtained by dynamic triaxial tests. Seismic dynamic responses and residual deformation of embankment dam are analyzed. With the increase of dam height, the acceleration distribution shows an obvious amplification effect. The vertical displacement of embankment dam is larger along the dam axis and decreases in the upstream and downstream direction. The maximum horizontal displacement of embankment dam occurs in the middle of upstream and downstream dam slopes.

Abstract
Purpose
This study attempts to identify the determinant factors for Chinese users’ intention of continuous use of TikTok.
Design/methodology/approach
Drawing on the theoretical background and previous literature, this study proposes the research model followed by research hypotheses. For the purpose of empirical analysis of this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey on current Chinese TikTok platform users. Factor analysis was conducted to verify the reliability and validity of the measurement variables; Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to ensure that the structural dimensions of the measurement are effective; the analysis results of the structural equation model for hypothesis test.
Findings
The result of the study indicates that the core service traits (entertainment, informativeness and convenience of use) of TikTok all have a positive effect on user engagement and perceived usefulness. In addition, the study found that both personalized recommendation services and filter bubble, which are features of TikTok's service recommendation system, have a positive effect on user engagement and perceived usefulness of TikTok. In addition, it was found that both user engagement and perceived usefulness have a significant positive effect on continuous use intention. Finally, users’ attitude toward big data indicating privacy concern only had a positive moderating effect on the personalized recommendation service but not on filter bubble.
Originality/value
As consumers’ demand for services tailored to their needs and preferences fast increased, it calls for growing concern over the safety of personal data being used by the platforms. Although this paradox over increased user convenience versus privacy protection issue has been persistently recognized, no previous research empirically addressed this issue in the context of social media platforms.
