Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine and compare the entire impact of various execution skills of oppositional biogeography-based optimization using the current optimum (COOBBO) algorithm.
Design/methodology/approach
The improvement measures tested in this paper include different initialization approaches, crossover approaches, local optimization approaches, and greedy approaches. Eight well-known traveling salesman problems (TSP) are employed for performance verification. Four comparison criteria are recoded and compared to analyze the contribution of each modified method.
Findings
Experiment results illustrate that the combination model of “25 nearest-neighbor algorithm initialization+inver-over crossover+2-opt+all greedy” may be the best choice of all when considering both the overall algorithm performance and computation overhead.
Originality/value
When solving TSP with varying scales, these modified methods can enhance the performance and efficiency of COOBBO algorithm in different degrees. And an appropriate combination model may make the fullest possible contribution.

Abstract
A new design framework for crossover operator is proposed based on the commonality concept. In the reproduction process the resulting hybrid crossover operator includes a local search scheme aiming to improve the genetic characteristics of the offspring. Commonality suggests that search should be driven in the neighbourhood of parents, and local optimisers can drive this search. The ranking of the offspring candidates is based on a local fitness function using approximations and appropriated heuristics linked to the structural optimisation problem. The goal of this approach is to identify and preserve the common schema of the two parents responsible for their high‐observed fitness. The proposed hybrid crossover operator is embedded into a genetic algorithm supported by an elitist strategy and its performance is compared with the parametrised uniform crossover.

Abstract
Purpose
Target markets of new product brands (niche customers) differ from those of existing product brands (mainstream customers) using conventional new product brand development strategy. The purpose of this paper is to contend that acculturation in the form of cultural pluralism exists in the marketplace and substantiates that contention through an investigation of consumer behavior outcomes resulting from the development of new product brands that target both mainstream and niche consumers through product brand crossover, an alternative product brand development strategy that leverages on cultural pluralism.
Design/methodology/approach
A between-subjects experiment was conducted to test whether consumers differ in their behavioral intentions toward existing and new product brands developed through product brand crossover. The experiments include marketing situations of matching and mismatching product brands and marketing communications in the form of marketing messages and advertising images.
Findings
The results show that consumers – in general and in segmented groups – do not differ in behavioral intentions toward existing and new product brands as a result of product brand crossover. Matching and mismatching product brands and marketing communications in the form of marketing messages and advertising images do not produce significant effects on behavioral intentions.
Originality/value
This paper offers fresh evidence showing that acculturation in the form of cultural pluralism exists in the marketplace and introduces a new concept in the form of product brand crossover that acknowledges and leverages on cultural pluralism as an alternative approach for new product brand development.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to compare the stability of the three nanocarriers created by DNA origami method with different positions and numbers of crossovers
Design/methodology/approach
Nanocarriers are attractive components among a variety of nanostructures created by DNA origami and can have numerous applications in mechanical and medical engineering. For this reason, the current study compares three nanotubes with different positions and numbers of crossovers created by DNA origami method that can be utilized as nanocarriers. To investigate the structures, the DNA nanocarriers are studied at the human body temperature 310 K. Molecular dynamics simulations are used for this study. For a quantitative analysis of DNA nanocarriers, the areas of three hexagons at three different sites in each of the nanotubes are investigated. The results indicate that the number and position of crossovers are among the significant factors in the structure stability of nanocarriers. The analyses also revealed that although adding crossovers in locations with fewer crossovers increase structural stability, the position of crossovers can have different effects on the stability. DNA origami-based nanocarriers can be implemented in drug delivery, allow the nanocargoes to pass various surfaces and act as filters for passing cargoes of different dimensions and chemical structures.

The results indicate that the number and position of crossovers are among the significant factors in the structure stability of nanocarriers

Abstract
Purpose
Building on reciprocity and crossover theory, this paper aims to examine how mood crossover from one partner in a relational dyad influences the likelihood of reciprocal mood crossover from the other partner.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a survey sample of 180 dual‐career married couples, the paper explores this phenomenon for both positive and negative mood crossover from husbands to wives and wives to husbands.
Findings
The data supported the paper's four hypotheses. Mood crossover was found to operate in a similar fashion for both husbands and wives after controlling for negative and positive affectivity, work and home demands, work autonomy, and support from the organization, non‐work friends, and spouse. Specifically, when wives (husbands) reported positive (negative) mood crossover from their husbands (wives), their husbands (wives) also reported positive (negative) mood crossover from them.
Research implications/limitations
The findings suggest positive and negative mood crossover is reciprocated among individuals in a dual‐career marriage context. This implies that the effects of positive and negative crossover may be magnified through relational interactions at home. However, the design of this study is not sufficient to determine the causality of this relationship.
Practical implications
The findings suggest that the positive and negative work experiences of one partner in a relationship affect the well being and moods of their partner at home. Consequently, organizations may consider wellness or positive reinforcement programs to encourage positive crossover between the domains of work and home.
Originality/value
This study examines how individuals in a dual‐partner reciprocate the negative and positive crossover of moods of their partner from work to home.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide theoretical and practical insight into the process of crossover with the proposition that affect intensity is an important explanatory mechanism of crossover.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper provides an empirical and conceptual overview of the construct of crossover, and addresses key gaps in the literature by proposing a process of discrete emotional crossover. It is proposed that individual differences in affect intensity may moderate and/or explain the crossover of discrete emotions in the workplace.
Findings
This paper responds to the call of various researchers within the crossover field by putting forth a unique explanation for the occurrence of crossover. This explanation draws significantly on emotions theory and research.
Originality/value
This paper is unique in its presentation of affect intensity as a moderator of the crossover process and in its discussion of the crossover of discrete emotions such as joy and fear rather than the crossover of emotional or psychological states.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to introduce a novel methodology that has the capability of finding symmetrical and nonsymmetrical solutions in complex design domains without additional tuning when changing the design domain. These go from an academic design domain to a practical one.
Design/methodology/approach
Various crossovers operators are applied over the same representation using a genetic algorithm for truss structural optimization cases where literature solutions have a tendency to forced symmetry in order to find an optimal design with fewer iterations. Continuous‐discrete representations were cross‐bred by a uniform‐sbx simultaneous crossover, called zygote crossover. Specialized mutations operations are proposed to generate localized changes to improve the solution according with the design domain.
Findings
Design solutions found were lighter and stiffer when comparing against cases reported in current literature and in engineering practice. Also these solutions were found in fewer iterations.
Practical implications
The cases solved herein are complex and are a challenge for any optimization routine however practical design limitations are observed in the sense of out plane stability. Further comparisons cases are required in order to generate a less adjusted design, this is because the greenhouse solution had to be stiffened with out of plane bars to give it enough lateral stability.
Originality/value

Specialized mutations operations are proposed to generate localized changes to improve the solution according with the design domain. This scheme along with a less restrictive environment allows a wider exploration of search space.

Develops and compares a number of alternative discounted cash flow (DCF) approaches to the appraisal of over‐rented property. The transparent nature of DCF techniques makes them more suitable than traditional techniques for the appraisal of over‐rented property, but the different DCF approaches reveal the essential risk characteristics of over‐rented property, including option characteristics similar to those of convertible bonds. This suggests that even more complex appraisal techniques used in other investment markets may be more appropriate.

Abstract
Purpose
Feature selection is an important step for data pre-processing specially in the case of high dimensional data set. Performance of the data model is reduced if the model is trained with high dimensional data set, and it results in poor classification accuracy. Therefore, before training the model an important step to apply is the feature selection on the dataset to improve the performance and classification accuracy.
Design/methodology/approach
A novel optimization approach that hybridizes binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) and differential evolution (DE) for fine tuning of SVM classifier is presented. The name of the implemented classifier is given as DEPSOSVM.
Findings
This approach is evaluated using 20 UCI benchmark text data classification data set. Further, the performance of the proposed technique is also evaluated on UCI benchmark image data set of cancer images. From the results, it can be observed that the proposed DEPSOSVM techniques have significant improvement in performance over other algorithms in the literature for feature selection. The proposed technique shows better classification accuracy as well.
Originality/value
The proposed approach is different from the previous work, as in all the previous work DE/(rand/1) mutation strategy is used whereas in this study DE/(rand/2) is used and the mutation strategy with BPSO is updated. Another difference is on the crossover approach in our case as we have used a novel approach of comparing best particle with sigmoid function. The core contribution of this paper is to hybridize DE with BPSO combined with SVM classifier (DEPSOSVM) to handle the feature selection problems.

Abstract
This chapter examines the role of leader workaholism in relation to their own and their followers’ well-being. We begin with an overview of workaholism, along with a description of how workaholism may relate to typical leader behaviors. We propose a conceptual model linking the various components of workaholism to leaders’ well-being and followers’ well-being. In our model, we propose that leaders’ workaholism can negatively influence their own well-being, and also their followers’ well-being through interindividual crossover of affective, cognitive, and behavioral components of workaholism. Furthermore, the negative well-being outcomes experienced by the workaholic leader can also crossover to the followers through interindividual strain–strain crossover. Several moderating factors of these relationships are discussed, as well as avenues for future research.
