Corrosion‐resistant tubing. The steady increase in production and the application of corrosive liquids intensifies the problem of conveying them via a pipeline. Undoubtedly carbon is theoretically the best medium because of its resistance to almost all corrosive chemicals, even in the hot state. It is, however, comparatively fragile when in the form of tubes and can generally be used only for low pressure and for short pipelines. Talbot Stead Tube Co. Ltd. have now overcome this handicap with a new type of patented tubing known as Metica. This is in effect two tubes; an inner tube of carbon or graphite is protected by an outer tube of metal, a combination giving both resistance and high mechanical strength. This tubing is now commercially available together with special fittings that ensure continuity of carbon in the pipe.

The stress distribution in triangular cantilever plates under a uniform normal load and under a tip load is investigated theoretically. Numerical solutions are presented for plates with angles of sweep from 0 deg. to 60 deg. and with tip angles of 30 deg., 45 deg., 60 deg., 75 deg. and 90 deg.

The colour schemes possible with seamless flooring and walling systems which incorporate coloured flakes have now been widely extended by the introduction of BCC silver and gold glitters. These materials are small squares of coated metallic foil. They can be either mixed in with the coloured flakes to give highlights or be used on their own to give startling effects.
