Abstract
Purpose
Sets out to discuss laminar free convection characteristics of air confined to a square cavity and a horizontal rectangular cavity (aspect ratio A=2) along with the viable isosceles triangular cavities and right‐angle triangular cavities that may be inscribed inside the two original cavities.
Design/methodology/approach
The three distinct cavities shared the base wall as the heated wall, while the remaining sides and upper walls are cold. The finite volume method is used to perform the numerical computation of the transient conservation equations of mass, momentum and energy. The methodology takes into account the second‐order‐accurate quick scheme for the discretization of the convective term, whereas the pressure‐velocity coupling is handled with the simple scheme. The working fluid is air, which is not assumed as a Boussinesqian gas, so that all influencing thermophysical properties of air are taken as temperature‐dependent. The cavity problem is examined over a variety of height‐based Grashof numbers ranging from 103 to 106.
Findings
Numerical results are reported for the velocity fields, the temperature field as well as the local and mean wall heat fluxes along the heated base wall. It was found that the airflow remains symmetric for the isosceles triangular cavity with aspect ratio A=1 even at high Grashof numbers. In contrast, for an isosceles triangular cavity with an aspect ratio A=2, a pitchfork bifurcation begins to form at a critical Grashof number of 2 × 105, breaking the airflow symmetry. The computed local and mean heat fluxes along the hot base wall are compared for the three configurations under study and the corresponding maximum heat transfer levels are clearly identified for the two aspect ratios A=1 and 2.
Research limitations/implications
As a continuity of this work, there are two avenues that future research could explore and indeed are presently being explored by the authors within these geometries. The first deals with heat transfer enhancement using mixture of gases. The second is to re‐examine the problem under turbulent conditions.
Originality/value
The present study seeks to maximize the convection heat transport in cavities and minimize their sizes. The peculiarity of the derived cavities is their cross‐section area being half of the cross‐section area of the basic cavities.

Abstract
Purpose
The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 calls for a reduction in disaster mortality, yet measuring mortality remains a challenge due to varying definitions of disaster mortality, the quality, availability and diversity of data sources, generating mortality estimates, and how mortality data are interpreted.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper uses five case studies to provide details around some of the complexities involved with measuring disaster mortality and to demonstrate the clear need for accurate disaster mortality data.
Findings
The findings highlight the benefits of combining multiple data sources for accurate mortality estimates, access to interoperable and readily available global, national, regional and local data sets, and creating standardized definitions for direct and indirect mortality for easier attribution of causes of death.
Originality/value
Countries should find a method of measuring mortality that works for them and their resources, and for the hazards they face. Combining accurate mortality data and estimates and leadership at all levels can inform policy and actions to reduce disaster mortality, and ultimately strengthen disaster risk reduction in countries for all citizens.

Abstract
Purpose
Increasingly, dynamic market environments lead to growing complexity in manufacturing and pose a severe threat for the competitiveness of manufacturing companies. Systematic guidance to manage this complexity, especially in the context of Industry 4.0 and the therewith rising trends such as digitalization and data-driven production optimization, is lacking. To address this deficit a case-based reasoning (CBR) system for providing knowledge about managing complexity in Industry 4.0 is presented.
Design/methodology/approach
First, the explicit knowledge representation for managing complexity in IT-based manufacturing is introduced. Second, the CBR process step to retrieve knowledge from an artificially composed case base with in total 70 cases of data-based complexity management in the context of Industry 4.0 is set out. Third, knowledge transfer alongside several maturity levels of information technology capabilities of manufacturing systems for reuse in new problem scenarios is introduced.
Findings
The paper comprises the conceptual approach for designing a CBR system to support data-based complexity management in manufacturing systems. Furthermore, the appropriateness of the CBR system to provide applicable knowledge for reducing and managing complexity in corporate practice is shown.
Research limitations/implications
The presented research results are evaluated in the course of an embedded single case study and may therefore lack generalizability. Future research to test and enhance the appropriateness of the developed CBR system will strengthen the research contribution.
Originality/value
The paper provides a novel approach to systematically support knowledge transfer for data-based complexity management by transferring the well-known and established methodology of CBR to the rising application domain of manufacturing systems in the context of Industry 4.0.

Purpose
The purpose of this study was to explore potential witnesses' memories for a day that was experienced an unremarkable. There may be instances in an investigation in which all leads have been exhausted, and investigators use a broad appeal for witnesses who may have witnessed something important. Investigators can benefit from knowing the types of information that may be recalled in such circumstances, as well as identifying specific methods that are effective in eliciting useful information.
Design/methodology/approach
The present study explored how the delay to recall and recall method influenced the recollection of a seemingly unremarkable day that later became important. Participants were asked to recall an experienced event that occurred either recently (a few weeks prior) or in the distant past (a year prior). Participants recalled via either a written method, in-person individual-spoken or collaborative-spoken interviews.
Findings
Results suggest an independent benefit for individual-spoken in-person recall (compared to written or collaborative-spoken recall) and recall undertaken closely after an event (compared to delayed recall). Both individual-spoken interviews as well as more recent recollection resulted in a greater number of overall details recalled. The authors further examined the types of details recalled that might be important to progressing an investigation (e.g. other witnesses and records).
Originality/value
The present work provides important implications for interviewing witnesses about a seemingly unremarkable event that later became important.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the problems that are related to the witness and acquisition of evidence during the commercial crime investigation.
Design/methodology/approach
Data for this research were collected primarily from the semi-structured interview session conducted with ten investigation officers from the regulatory and enforcement bodies in Malaysia.
Findings
The late response from witnesses and third parties will prolong the completion period of investigation. The problem of long completion period arises in a process of investigation, particularly on the cooperation of the witnesses in attending the recording statement session and providing the evidences as well as other party who are required to provide relevant information. Although there are sufficient provisions of law that allow investigation officers to acquire evidences from witnesses and third parties, there is no time limit for third parties to respond to the enquiries from the investigation officers. The degree of the difficulties and complexity of the cases also influence the completion period of the investigation of commercial crime cases. Cases like cheating, criminal breach trust and computer crimes have varieties of modus operandi and difficulty. Thus, the burden to proof beyond reasonable doubt also increased for the investigation officers to fulfill the requirement of evidences as stated in the relevant acts to satisfy the public prosecutor to bring the case to the court.
Research limitations/implications
The study provides some evidence to indicate that commercial crime investigation generally is a collective effort. All parties involved should participate and give their best cooperation to complete the investigation in a reasonable period of time, so that the justice can be uphold for the best interest of the victim. This study, however, is limited to small number of respondents and narrow scope of study because of sensitivity of the topics.
Practical implications
It should be noted that the main problem that has been faced by the investigation officers is to acquire the cooperation from relevant parties either government or nongovernment agencies and individual witness. No matter how complex is the case, it will depend largely on the willingness of relevant parties to cooperate and providing the evidences required for the investigation officers to complete the investigation within the reasonable period. The problem has to be remedied to ensure that it will not affect the perception of public especially complainants, toward the efficiency of the investigation officers, to complete the investigation. In general, the public perceptions also affect the image of the government as a whole.
Originality/value
This study is original as it gathers the information directly from the investigation officers who are directly involved in the commercial crime investigation. The data collected were also highly confidential and not easily accessible by researchers, which are rare in literature and invaluable for academic publications.

The two dimensional ∧-shaped cavity is filled by Al2O3-water nanofluid and saturated by three different levels of heterogeneous porous media. An incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (ISPH) method is adopted to solve the governing equations of the present problem. Findings
The performed numerical simulations indicated the importance of embedded shapes on the distributions of temperature, concentration and velocity fields inside ∧-shaped cavity. Increasing buoyancy ratio parameter enhances thermo-solutal convection and nanofluid velocity. Adiabatic conditions of the vertical-walls of ∧-shaped cavity augment the distributions of the temperature and concentration. Regardless the Darcy parameter, a homogeneous porous medium gives the lowest values of a nanofluid velocity.
Originality/value
ISPH method is used to simulate thermo-solutal convection of a nanofluid inside a novel ∧-shaped cavity containing a novel embedded shape and heterogeneous porous media.

Entitlement persists on the basis of race, gender, age, sexuality, language and able-bodiedness, despite all efforts to eradicate it – and abetted by some efforts to preserve it. Compounding this, as teachers, it is easy for us to become habituated to possessing the only knowledge of value in the room. This chapter takes place against a backdrop of movements such as Black Lives Matter, and its Australian manifestation, Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, the Me Too movement, on women's workplace rights and freedoms, movements against homophobia and transphobia, and quests for equality of accessibility. In particular, we explore the notion that Australia is a haunted nation – one that has not confronted its colonial past or properly reconciled with its first peoples and their descendants. Just as the nation needs to come to terms with its past, our conversations for this chapter will confront us with our own pasts and differing subjectivities. We make use here of our own stories in challenging entitlement, in ourselves and others.

Abstract
This article examines the business relationships in the cold chain used for exporting food to new markets in developing countries. The American Potato Trade Alliance, a cross‐network alliance that includes all levels of the value chain, is the subject of case study research involving participant observation and fieldwork in the Philippines and Thailand. Multinational restaurant companies manage technical challenges in target markets with tight specifications and exclusive supply chains, while smaller firms use extensive networks to supply imported frozen potatoes. Pricing strategies for cold chain services are closely related to quality and potentially affect the availability of outsourced cold chain services. Opportunistic behavior by buyers could reduce incentives for private investment in cold chain infrastructure, while long‐term commitment by chain partners would strengthen the potential for private markets to provide cold chain services in newly developing markets.

Abstract
Purpose
The objective of the present study is to identify and analyze a set of critical success factors (CSFs) for ice-cream industry [cold chain management (CCM)] that helps in increasing the efficacy, quality, performance and growth of the supply chain organization.
Design/methodology/approach
A questionnaire survey with companies in ice-cream sector and a panel study with experts were conducted to identify and validate CSFs and their associated sub-factors. Eight CSFs identified from the cold chain domain vetted for the ice-cream industry and then prioritized by using one of the most well-known decision-making frameworks, Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory. The general verdicts of the modelling and its application to the real-world case have been tested through an ice-cream company supply chain.
Findings
The result shows that the significant CSFs accountable for the growth of the ice-cream industry are the infrastructure and capacity building, consistent product improvement and operational efficiencies of the value chain. Subsequently, it was identified that the use of IT and related technologies and improved processes for operations also play a considerable role in the performance of ice-cream industry.
Practical implications
The study successfully outlines the effective CCM practices for critical issues. The proposed methodology and factor modelling case demonstration might be useful in analyzing the logistic chains of products such as fruits, drugs and meat.
Originality/value
The meritorious identification of critical areas and executing mitigation plans bring notable benefits to the firms such as improved operational efficiencies, improved time to market performance and product innovation, which bring additional benefits to the producers.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to elaborate value-added service of cold chain logistics between China and Korea. The covering strategy for developing the cold chain value-added service between the two countries is proposed.
Design/methodology/approach
The author expounds the driving power for developing cold chain logistics between the two countries basing on the trade data of agricultural exports and imports, the tariff liberalization agreement of China–Korea FTA and the short distance between the two countries. It analyzes the value-added service of cold chain logistics with exemplary cases from four aspects (customized service, integrated service, consultation/solution and strategic alliance service), and its value-added mechanism for the enhancement of core competences of the entire cold chain. Then, by considering the drawbacks of the current cold chain logistics practices, between the two countries, the author proposes certain measures for fostering the cold chain value-added services between them.
Findings
There are apparent mutual benefits in developing cold chain value-added service between the two countries, but there exists some shortcomings which impede the sound development of the cold chain logistics, such as low circulation rate and insufficient cold chain facility in China, shortage of integrated and compatible information platform between the two countries, few integrated cold chain service and strategic alliance service and occurrence of some trade frictions.
Originality/value
The enforcement of China–Korea FTA will greatly reduce the tariff and increase the import and export volumes between the two countries; with the proximity between them, development of cold chain logistics between the two countries holds tremendous potential. This paper thoroughly discusses the mechanism of the value-added service of the cold chain logistics, and brings into focus the development of the value-added service in the two countries.
