Reducing Level of Alcohol in Inks ‐ A medium‐sized US ink manufacturer recently needed to reduce the level of alcohol in its bases for water‐based inks. Ciba Geigy Pigments Division's Inks Technical Centre developed an improved formulation, containing half the alcohol of the previous one and 40 per cent more pigment to allow the ink producer to meet VOC limits and increase production efficiency, at no additional cost.

Prompt response times have won CMB General Packaging an order to supply Manders Paints with Polycans for some of its fastest selling lines. Manders' ‘own brand’ Maestro Emulsion, its Trend Budget Emulsion and the Trend Kwik Coat range will all now be available in the lightweight polypropylene container.

LETTER FROM AMERICA Valspar Unit to Acquire Cargill The Valspar Corp. has announced that it has reached an agreement with the Federal Trade Commission that will allow its subsidiary, McWhorter Inc., to acquire Cargill Inc.'s Resin Products Division.

Manders (Holdings) plc last month announced their results for the year ended 31st December 1991. Turnover at £101.6m was slightly down on 1990's £104.8m, with pre‐tax profits at £6.0m compared with £6.6m for 1990. Roy Amos, chairman, commented: “In difficult trading conditions the Group's profits and turnover held up well. We increased our penetration in the core business areas of paints and inks and at the year‐end we significantly strengthened our position in the retail decorative paint sector with the acquisition of Windeck Paints Ltd.”
