Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to propose a model for effective data filling and precise prediction, which is used to solve the prediction problem of sequential data with the characteristics of poor information, high growth and containing extraordinary points.

Design/methodology/approach

After proving that the three principles of smooth sequence are not a sufficient condition for the judgement of sequence smoothness, judgement rules for sequence smoothness based on smoothness efficiency is introduced. Based on the non‐homogenous discrete grey model (NDGM) model which fits for high growth sequence, model error caused by equal weight mean value is analyzed, and mean value generation weight efficiency is optimized by the method of differential. Prediction steps that fit sequences with high growth, poor information and containing extraordinary points is established on the basis of equal weight mean value generation efficiency.

Findings

The results are convincing: previous judgement rules used for sequence smoothness do not fit for the high growth sequence, new judgement rules introduced are more effective for high growth sequence. Sequence filling algorithm based on differential ration not only improve the filling of high growth sequence, but also enhance the prediction precision of these sequences.

Practical implications

The method exposed in the paper can be used to solve the prediction problem of sequences with poor information, high growth and containing extraordinary points, and it was proved in the cases of large and medium company new products income and Ufida Software Company. What is more, the method is also helpful in aspects of corporate financial control and strategy‐making process.

Originality/value

The paper succeeds in proposing a new interpolation algorithm that is superior to ordinary mean value generation method in the aspects of generation and prediction and to grey interpolation algorithm in the aspect of information volume by defining sequence smoothness efficiency and introducing smoothness judgement rules that are easy to compute and fits for high growth sequence and not limited to monotonicity sequence.

Abstract

Purpose

The operational management of cold chain logistics has an important impact on the quality of cold chain products, but the service delivery process is subject to a series of potential problems such as product loss and cold storage temperature in the actual operation.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, the whole cold chain logistics system and risk events are analyzed. A Bayesian network is used for modeling and simulation to identify the main influencing factors and to conduct a sensitivity analysis of the main factors.

Findings

It is found that the operation of cold chain logistics systems can be divided into four links according to the degree of influence as follows: transportation and distribution, processing and packaging, information processing and warehousing. Transportation and distribution is the most influential factor of system failure, and extreme weather is the most risky event. At the same time, the four risk events that have the greatest impact on the operation of the cold chain system are in descending order: transportation equipment failure, extreme weather, unqualified pre-cooling and violation operation.

Originality/value

Therefore, enterprises should develop appropriate interventions for securing the transportation services, design strategies to deal with extreme weather conditions prior to and in the early stage of product delivery, and prepare additional effective measures for managing emergency events.

Abstract

Purpose

How to identify the critical success factors (CSFs) of public health emergencies (PHEs) is of great practical significance to carry out a scientific and effective risk assessment. The purpose of this paper is to address this issue.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, the authors propose a new approach to identify the CSFs by hesitant fuzzy linguistic set and a Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) approach. First, a larger group of experts are clustered into three groups according to similarity degree. Then, the weight of each cluster is determined by the maximum consensus method, and the overall direct influence matrix is obtained by clustering with hesitant fuzzy linguistic weighted geometric (HFLWG) operators. Finally, the overall direct influence matrix is transformed into the crisp direct impact matrix by the score function, and 11 CSFs of PHEs are identified by using the extended DEMATEL method.

Findings

In addition, an example of PHEs shows that the approach has good identification applicability. The approach can be used to solve the problems of fuzziness and subjectivity in linguistic assessments, and it can be applied to identify the customer service framework with the linguistic assessments process in emergency management.

Originality/value

This paper extends the above DEMATEL method to study in the hesitant fuzzy linguistic context. This proposed hybrid approach has a wider application in the high-risk area where disasters frequently occur.

Abstract

Purpose

This study examines the effect of occupational stress on turnover intention of employees working in the banking industry. The authors examine the mediating effects of service climate and emotional regulations of the employees in the relationship between occupational stress and intention to leave the organization.

Design/methodology/approach

This study followed stratified sampling technique for data collection from employees of ten commercial banks based on the banks' financial performance of top 5 and bottom 5 out of 27 banks. Data were collected at 2 stages, first from 465 employees for occupational stressors and second from 408 employees among the participants in the first stage for turnover intention, service climate and emotional regulation. Harman’s one-factor test was conducted to examine the common method bias. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), regression analysis and Preacher and Hayes Process Macro approach were used to examine mediation effect.

Findings

Three factors, namely workload (WL), role ambiguity and growth opportunity expectations were identified as the occupational stressors in the banking industry, predicting a positive relation of overall occupational stress to the intention to turnover. Service climate and the employees’ emotion regulation ability mediate the relationship between stress and turnover intention. Results also revealed no significant role of control variables in predicting occupational stress and turnover intention.

Practical implications

This study implies that the WL, role ambiguity and growth opportunity expectations of the employees cause stress in employees which may lead to have turnover intention. In order to get success in competitive environment, managers of banking industry can address stressors by enhancing service climate and formulating policies and programs to strengthen the emotion regulation which is evidence to strengthen the reciprocity approach of social exchange theory in employees’ commitment.

Originality/value

This study contributes to the social exchange theory and attempts to fulfill the gaps in empirical research on personnel psychology, human capital\ and organization management in developing countries.
