Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to discuss the construction of a structural measurement model utilizing structural equation modelling (SEM) to confirm the link between Industry 4.0 technologies, sustainable manufacturing practices and organizational sustainable performance. Relationship among the paradigm has yet to be fully investigated, necessitating a more conceptual and empirical examination on what impact they have on organizational sustainable performance when used together.
Design/methodology/approach
Industry 4.0 and sustainable production practices aim to progress a company's business competitiveness, forming sustainable development that benefits manufacturing companies. The aim of the study is to analyze the relationship between constructs that lead to operational excellence in firms that use Industry 4.0 technologies and sustainable manufacturing techniques. Experts from diverse automotive industries, who are applying both Industry 4.0 and sustainable manufacturing practices, provided data for the study.
Findings
Statistical estimations (hypotheses) are created to substantiate the measurement model that has been developed. The structural model was analysed, and the findings were discussed. The statistical estimate is either approved or rejected based on the findings. According to the conclusions of this study, strong link exists between Industry 4.0 technologies and sustainable manufacturing practices that affect organizational sustainable performance environmentally, economically and socially.
Practical implications
The research was conducted in the framework of automobile component manufacturing companies in India. The outcomes of the study are practically feasible.
Originality/value
The authors' novel contribution is the construction of a structural model with Industry 4.0 technologies and sustainable manufacturing practices into account.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the role of talent management (TM) in improving organizational sustainability (OS). The study also investigates employees’ sustainable behaviour (SB) in achieving three-dimensional sustainability goals (i.e. economic, social and environmental).
Design/methodology/approach
This study focused on medium and large-scale manufacturing firms, whereas the sample size was 196 firms. Data was collected through close-ended questionnaires using the cluster sampling technique. The partial least square-structural equation modelling was used to estimate the modelled relationships.
Findings
Results show a significant direct impact of TM on OS. Likewise, the results also show a substantial impact of all three dimensions of TM (acquisition, development and retention) on OS. Results confirm that employees’ SB positively mediates between TM and OS.
Research limitations/implications
The study focuses on the manufacturing sector of Pakistan. The study’s findings imply that TM strategies are an indispensable source of sustainability to attract, develop and retain talented employees in the situation of talent shortage. Moreover, sustainable employees’ behaviour is also depicted as a positive role between TM and OS because sustainable success is not only required the expertize of employees, but it also needs the dedication of employees.
Practical implications
This study enhances the understanding of TM’s role in improving the OS. The findings imply that a firm should consider TM as the apex strategy for elevating the performance. Findings also reveal the need to adopt a comprehensive strategy or system to manage the talent of an organization.
Originality/value
Linking the TM with OS and SB is the novelty of the study.

Abstract
Purpose
Smart manufacturing is revolutionizing the manufacturing industry by shifting the focus from traditional manufacturing to a more intelligent, interconnected and responsive system. Despite being the backbone of the economy and despite the government’s efforts in supporting and encouraging the transformation to smart manufacturing, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have been struggling to transform their operations. This study aims to identify the challenges for SMEs’ transformation and the benefits they can get from this transformation, following a systematic review of existing literature.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic review of existing literature has been performed to identify the peer-reviewed journal articles that focus on smart manufacturing for SMEs. First, a comprehensive list of keywords relevant to the review questions are identified. Second, Scopus and Web of Science databases were then used to search for articles, applying filters for English language and peer-reviewed status. Third, after manually assessing abstracts for relevance, 175 articles are considered for further review and analysis.
Findings
The benefits and challenges of SMEs’ transformation to smart manufacturing are identified. The identified challenges are categorized using the Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI) framework. Further, to address the identified challenges and initiate the SME’s transition toward smart manufacturing, a framework has been proposed that shows how SMEs can start their transition with minimum investment and existing resources.
Originality/value
Several studies have concentrated on understanding how smart manufacturing enhances sustainability, productivity and preventive maintenance. However, there is a lack of studies comprehensively analyzing the challenges for smart manufacturing adoption for SMEs. The originality of this study lies in identifying the challenges and benefits of smart manufacturing transformation and proposing a framework as a roadmap for SMEs' smart manufacturing adoption.

Purpose
Practitioners and academics have recently put a lot of emphasis on studying and improving how likely an organization will be successful in the long run. A company's capacity to thrive, excel and gain a competitive edge in today's market is increasingly dependent on the company's ability to adopt and successfully execute sustainable practices. The aim of this paper is to take a critical look at the relationship between total quality management (TQM) practices and business sustainability in the hospitality industry, with a focus on the hospitality sector; to evaluate the role of perceived organizational support (POS) and sustainable behavior in promoting long-term success and to make some suggestions for how these practices could be put into place.
Design/methodology/approach
The data used were randomly collected from 361 hotel employees, covering both the five-star and four-star hotels. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to analyze the data. With the use of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), the heuristic model was tested.
Findings
The results show that putting TQM practices into place leads to better company performance, higher productivity and steady growth for the business. In addition, empirical studies show that the link between sustainable behavior in TQM implementation and a sustainable company is strong, especially when coming to better governance and sustainability related to employees.
Research limitations/implications
This paper offers guidelines for gauging employee's opinions of an organization's long-term viability. A two-factor model has been used to measure the sustainability of an organization and possible factors that can aid effective implementation of TQM practices have been suggested.
Originality/value
There is increasing recognition of the organizational support for successful TQM implementation, while yearning toward sustainability. Within the context of the hospitality industry, no previous research has empirically examined the synergistic moderating effect of POS and sustainable behavior on the relationship between TQM and sustainability.

Abstract
Purpose
Kenyan Small and Medium-sized Tourism Enterprises (SMTEs) have been highly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, the tourism workforce had to face lockdowns and travel restrictions. In order to maintain business and operational continuity, the tourism workforce had to leverage on internet technologies and digitalisation as a means of enabling business continuity and providing value addition in their supply chains. This study sought to investigate on the extent to which digital skills aid in the tourism recovery process as well as improve the employees' well-being amid the COVID-19 pandemic among SMTEs in Nairobi City County.
Methodology
The study took a qualitative approach based on constructivist grounded methodological approaches that emphasised specifically on the discovery of emerging trends and patterns in behaviour as well as development of new theory. The aim was to understand the tourism workforce recovery process using digital skills. The process involved data gathering from interview participants, qualitative emic and etic coding, analytical memo writing, theoretical sampling and reconstructing theory.
Findings
The findings of the study showed that due to losses attributed to the lockdowns and travel restrictions, prospective digital business models have been formulated for tourism stakeholders during the lockdown period. The changing technological landscape globally showed that digital skills will continue to be in great demand to meet the needs of the marketplace. Further, the use of social digital tools to build a mental health response to COVID-19 was instrumental to the recovery process. Technological resilience is a key factor that will play a role in reviving the sector.
Research Implications
A structured vision, roadmap and tourism strategy for mainstreaming digital skills and developing technological resilience within the tourism and hospitality sector is important towards coping and adaptive strategies for the SMTEs in the Kenyan context.
Originality/Value
This study examines how digital skills are vital for tourism recovery especially for the SMTEs within the developing countries context.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this study is to describe the context, the activity, and the outcome of a project, which led to the creation of ArcheoTRAC, the first information system (IS) designed to run all the daily activities in archaeological finds management, to share information among the different professionals and to support in this way knowledge creation.
Design/methodology/approach
The study focuses on the ArcheoTRAC system and on the project that contributed to its development. Since the authors of this paper have been involved in the project (one of them since its very beginning), an action research paradigm has been used to derive scientific knowledge out of the experience. Both organizational and technological aspects are investigated under the respective theoretical knowledge management perspectives.
Findings
There were two effective choices in order to foster knowledge sharing in a context of a scarcity of interactions among professionals involved. Grouping representatives of possible users in the project contributed to create a mutual understanding of their interdependent and complementary needs and activities. Moreover, some system features of the ArcheoTRAC system (views, fields and thesauri customization, non‐prescriptive workflows) were effective in letting each user adapt him/herself to the new system.
Practical implications
The study sheds light on the characteristics of a system designed in order to maximize the information exploitation and sharing and, at the same time, to minimize the introduction impact, in a context denoted by manual processes, lack of habit of cooperation, and poor IT literacy.
Originality/value
The study deals with an innovative IS that supports all activities performed by every professional involved in archaeological finds management. The study describes the architecture of this IS that has been designed to minimize impacts on professionals' behaviour and maximize knowledge sharing.

The aim of the study is to determine the benefits of transforming a destination into smart destination (SD) to restart tourism after the COVID-19 outbreak, to match the dimensions of SD with restarting strategies, and to make conceptual inferences to serve this. For this purpose, two reports published by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in 2020 were examined: Priorities for Tourism Recovery and Global Guidelines to Restart Tourism. Then, the contents of these reports and the dimensions of SDs were matched and a guiding model for tourism decision-makers was developed.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and nonfinancial organizational performance (NFOP) of for-profit public and private enterprises in Yemen. It also aims to find whether there is a significant difference of the level of adopting CSR as a periodic activity between business-related public enterprises known as state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and private enterprises.
Design/methodology/approach
Empirical analyses were conducted on a sample comprising 103 for-profit public and private enterprises. Relationship between CSR and NFOP was examined using multiple regression analyses whereas t-test analysis was used to find any significant difference in adopting CSR activities between SOEs and private enterprises operating in Yemen.
Findings
The four components of CSR (i.e. economic, legal, ethical and philanthropic) have positive significant relationships with NFOP when measured separately in private enterprises and in both SOEs and private enterprises as a whole entity. Conversely, there was insignificant influence of CSR on NFOP when examined separately in only SOEs. Furthermore, there was no statistically significant difference between SOEs and private enterprises concerning the level of adopting periodically CSR activities.
Research limitations/implications
Having potential personal preferences among respondents was among the major limitations of this study. Moreover, using nonfinancial measures for assessing NFOP forms another key limitation.

Abstract
Purpose
This study explores the role of institutional pressures and top management support in digital corporate social responsibility (CSR) adoption. It also investigates the impact of digital CSR on social trust and corporate sustainability.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from 279 managers of Jordanian companies. Smart PLS was utilized to analyze the research model and test hypotheses.
Findings
The results reveal that coercive pressures, normative pressures, memetic pressures and top management support significantly impact digital CSR adoption. The results also show that digital CSR significantly impacts social trust and corporate sustainability.
Originality/value
This study provides worthwhile insights into the literature on drivers of digital CSR, social trust and corporate sustainability in unprecedented crises. This study enriches the literature on the relationship between institutional theory and innovative IT solutions adoption theories. The review of prior research confirms an absence of empirical examinations of the causal relations among institutional forces, digital CSR, social trust and corporate sustainability.

Purpose
Technological innovation, digitalisation and the Industry 4.0 revolution radically changed business management and contributed to the achievement of sustainability goals. While many studies analyse technological innovation, and Industry 4.0 in particular, the technical aspects of its contribution/impact on sustainability remains partially analysed, especially in relation to Industry 4.0 enabling technologies. This study investigates the contribution of Industry 4.0 enabling technologies on sustainability in innovative firms.
Design/methodology/approach
The sustainability reports of the 50 most innovative companies based on Boston Consulting Group (BCG)'s 2022 raking is analysed through a content analysis. In the reports, enabling technologies are analysed in relation to their contribution to sustainability.
Findings
The results shed light on the application of Industry 4.0 enabling technologies in sustainability practices based on the communication in the firms' sustainability reports. The results indicate that enabling technologies support the three pillars of sustainability in different business processes.
Research limitations/implications
The results have theoretical and managerial implications that broaden the study of enabling technologies and sustainability while also suggesting a future research agenda.
Originality/value
This study aims to address the gap in the literature regarding the contribution of Industry 4.0 enabling technologies to sustainability.
