Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyse the trend of publication in the field of psychological ownership (PO) in marketing by looking at the previous research papers. The research pinpoints the key concepts, methodology, analytical approach and the structure of PO that could open up future research path in this area of research.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper provides a bibliometric analysis of PO in marketing by using performance analysis and science mapping with data extracted from Scopus database using VOSviewer software.

Findings

Results show the trend of publications in the field of PO and found out the main themes related to the PO and also provide future research avenues for further exploration by scholars.

Research limitations/implications

The study could help researchers, firms and marketers to predict functioning of customer’s mind and their decision-making, thus enabling organizations to create a strong targeted marketing strategy to attract and engage customers.

Originality/value

The present study provides a bird’s view of psychological ownership in marketing context by applying bibliometric analysis tool. Also, the rigorous literature investigation links and integrates isolated diverse knowledge of PO that aids in developing meaningful new insights for firms and marketers.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to seek to examine the mediating role of organizational commitment (OC) in the relationship that extra role performance (EXR) shares with leader member exchange (LMX), psychological empowerment (PE) and human resource management practices (HRMP) in a large, public-sector service organization in India.

Design/methodology/approach

Structural equation modeling and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to evaluate the hypothesized model. Reliability and validity of measures were also examined.

Findings

Statistical analysis indicated that each of the following - LMX, PE and HRMP had a positive impact on OC, and OC influenced EXR. Further LMX influence EXR through OC while HRMP and PE partially influence EXR.

Practical implications

In an Indian context, this study offers a deeper understanding of the factors influencing OC, and how OC affects EXR. This understanding will help practitioners formulate effective human resource policies and restructure their training programs to increase commitment levels and enhance performance of their employees.

Originality/value

This paper considers a sample in a large, public-sector service organization in India which has not been attempted earlier; previous studies have focussed more on Western contexts. Further, findings of this research corroborate the findings of previous studies that established a positive relation between OC and EXR, and found that LMX, PE and HRMP positively influenced OC.

Abstract

Purpose

By following the “employee-centric” approach, this study aims at identifying the impact of high-performance work systems (HPWS) on specific employee attitudinal outcomes such as work engagement, job satisfaction and affective commitment in the Indian healthcare industry.

Design/methodology/approach

The target population for this study includes the nurses working in large private multi-specialty tertiary care hospitals in India. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) techniques are used on a sample of 152 nurses working in two large specialty hospitals.

Findings

In the Indian healthcare industry context, the nurse's perception of HPWS has shown a significant positive effect on their attitudinal variables such as work engagement, job satisfaction and affective commitment. When checked for mediation of work engagement and job satisfaction variables in HPWS – affective commitment relationship, nurse's job satisfaction partially mediated the relationship, but nurse's work engagement has shown no mediation effect.

Originality/value

This is one of the pioneering studies conducted in the Indian healthcare industry context, especially on the nurse's sample in identifying the impact of high-performance work systems on their attitudinal outcomes. Underscoring the paucity of HPWS research in the Indian healthcare industry, this study's findings will be an addition to the HPWS literature and also to the nursing research in the Indian healthcare settings.

Abstract

Purpose

Following an “employee-centric” approach, the purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of high-performance work systems (HPWS) on employees’ work engagement and job satisfaction, and the mediating effect of these variables on employees’ affective commitment and intention of leaving their hospital.

Design/methodology/approach

Structural equation modeling was used on a sample of 296 clinicians (doctors and nurses) across seven Greek regional hospitals.

Findings

The findings indicate a strong positive effect of HPWS on employees’ job satisfaction, affective commitment, and work engagement and a negative effect on their intention to leave. In addition, employees’ engagement and job satisfaction positively mediate the HPWS effects on employees’ affective commitment and negatively on their intention to leave.

Practical implications

The findings not only validate previous studies’ conclusions, but also provide evidence for the potential fruitfulness of the HPWS approach in improving employees’ outcomes and well-being in turbulent times.

Originality/value

Although the argument that HPWS has a positive effect on organizational performance and productivity is well established, there are considerably fewer studies that examine the positive effects of HPWS specifically on employees’ job attitudes and outcomes, and the processes through which HPWS influences health-related outcomes. Finally, this study confirms the argument that HPWS can be a fruitful approach even in a country severely affected by Europe’s debt crisis over the last five years.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to examine the role of employee engagement (EE) as a mediator in the relationship of extra-role performance (ERP) with leader member exchange (LMX), high-involvement human resource practices (HI HRPs) and employee resilience (ER) in the emerging service sector organizations in India.

Design/methodology/approach

Data have been gathered from 328 employees from executive and non-executive grades from metro rail organizations of North India through structured questionnaire. Before analysis, missing data and outliers were examined. Structure equation modelling (SEM) and confirmatory factor analysis have been performed to analyse the hypothesized model.

Findings

Findings reveal that all the constructs taken in the study – LMX, HI HRP and ER – had a positive influence on employees’ ERP through EE.

Research limitations/implications

This study is helpful in providing better understanding of the predictors of EE and the way it affects employees’ ERP for researches that are aiming to conduct related research studies in an Indian context. To achieve higher employee performance, organizations need to identify factors or drivers that potentially increase the EE levels, thereby, increasing the employees’ performance. This will also help HR practitioners in shaping and formulating effective organizational policies and practices.

Originality/value

This study has considered the emerging service sector organizations in India that have not been endeavoured before as earlier studies concentrated more on Western countries. The result of the study is congruent with that of the previous studies by establishing a positive relationship between EE and employees’ ERP and also concludes that LMX, HI HRP and ER have positive influence on EE.

Abstract

Purpose

Although Agtech firms have promoted digital platforms for retailing farm supplies (RFS), farmers are sceptical while purchasing them online. As a result, they struggle to generate a sustained demand. Among other approaches, these platforms onboard complementors to become full-stack farming solution providers. Whether platform complementarity can induce farmers' trust remains ambiguous. Literature on network externality theory highlights that complementarity positively affects the perceived value for buyers. The sociotechnical systems literature indicates that perceived value is an antecedent of user trust. In this vein, the authors ask: Does perceived complementarity affect farmers' trust in the RFS platform? Alternatively, the Agtech firms augment the platform's look and feel to make the digital retail setting appear “normal” to farmers. The extant research on the social cognitive theory indicates that a retail setting conforming with the generalised expectancy of buyers harbours their trust. Against this backdrop, the authors ask whether situational normality affects farmers' trust in the RFS platform.

Design/methodology/approach

The study is based on a questionnaire survey of 212 Indian farmers using RFS platforms. The data were analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis.

Findings

This study establishes that platforms' complementarity and situational normality ameliorate farmer trust. The authors also identify the socioeconomic factors shaping the farmers' trust in platforms.

Research limitations/implications

The present study has taken all RFS together as a single umbrella category, which can be considered a limitation. Also, the study is based on the cross-sectional survey of RFS platform users; the farmers' attitudes are dynamic in nature and evolve over time; however, the temporal factors shaping the farmer attitudes have not been considered in this study.

Originality/value

The study establishes the epistemological relationship between complementarity, situational normality and farmers' trust in agricultural platforms.
