This paper seeks to present the Black blogosphere's discussion of the Jena 6 case to uncover how ethnic identity is performed discursively to promote social activism.

Through an analysis of Black blog postings reporting on the Jena 6 case, this case study chronicles the way in which Black audiences responded to this news story. The research chronicles the ways in which Black audiences responded to the Jena 6 news story and how Black blogs expanded participation in the discussion of events related to Black interests.

The findings point to critiques of dominant cultural meanings about race relations and racial injustice. In addition, the findings suggest that social media has become an additional medium that is effectively used by African Americans' in their historical struggle for civil rights. By chronicling the ways in which Black audiences responded to this news story, the paper demonstrates that Black blogs provide a useful space for discussing perceived racial injustice from a diverse African American cultural perspective. Moreover, Black bloggers are able to raise awareness of racial injustice within both the Black community and the broader US society and mobilize collective action.

This increase in mobile internet access and the accompanying differences in internet experience heightens the need for studies that examine culturally salient behavioral aspects of use and interpersonal relationships characterized by social support, communication, and resource sharing.

With increased competition and a radically changing retail environment, the quality and effectiveness of managers in retailing is assuming ever greater importance. Management development programmes play a significant part in this, not least at the new Institute of Retail Management at Templeton College, Oxford, where teaching and research programmes specifically oriented to the retail sector are being established. It claims to be the first such educational centre in Britain catering specifically to the post‐experience needs of retailers.

The role of women in society is radically changing in most Western countries. Vast numbers of women are beginning to work full‐time and to aspire to climb the same “organisational ladders” as their male counterparts. Indeed, the latest figures from the US Department of Labor indicate that the “typical American family” with a working husband, a homemaker wife, and two children now makes up only seven per cent of all US families. In addition, whereas in 1960 31 per cent of all married women in the US were working, as were 19 per cent of women with children under six, by 1975 the comparable figures were substantially higher at 44 and 37 per cent respectively.

This paper aims to provide a description of the genesis and development of Wi‐Fi, or how the industry exploited an opportunity provided by the regulators in allowing radio communications in the unlicensed bands originally allocated for industrial, medical and scientific applications.

The longitudinal case describes the genesis and development of Wi‐Fi, with a focus on the interplay between regulation, innovation, standardization, and running a successful business.

The paper argues that the current day success of Wi‐Fi is a combined result of: a change in the US communications policy in the 1980s; the industry leadership provided by NCR, its successors and collaborators, to create a global standard and to deliver compatible products under the Wi‐Fi label; and the influence of the users that moved the application of Wireless‐LANs from the enterprise to the home, from indoor to outdoor use, from a communications product to a service, and from operators to end‐users as the provider of that service.

The exploration and analysis are based on contributions by experts from the field, having been involved “first hand” in the innovation journey of Wi‐Fi.
