Abstract
Purpose
Despite the current progress in realizing how Big Data Analytics can considerably enhance the Sustainable Manufacturing Supply Chain (SMSC), there is a major gap in the storyline relating factors of Big Data operations in managing information and trust among several operations of SMSC. This study attempts to fill this gap by studying the key enablers of using Big Data in SMSC operations obtained from the internet of Things (IoT) devices, group behavior parameters, social networks and ecosystem framework.
Design/methodology/approach
Adaptive Prospects (Improving SC performance, combating counterfeits, Productivity, Transparency, Security and Safety, Asset Management and Communication) are the constructs that this research first conceptualizes, defines and then evaluates in studying Big Data Analytics based operations in SMSC considering best worst method (BWM) technique.
Findings
To begin, two situations are explored one with Big Data Analytics and the other without are addressed using empirical studies. Second, Big Data deployment in addressing MSC barriers and synergistic role in achieving the goals of SMSC is analyzed. The study identifies lesser encounters of barriers and higher benefits of big data analytics in the SMSC scenario.
Research limitations/implications
The research outcome revealed that to handle operations efficiently a 360-degree view of suppliers, distributors and logistics providers' information and trust is essential.
Practical implications
In the Post-COVID scenario, the supply chain practitioners may use the supply chain partner's data to develop resiliency and achieve sustainability.
Originality/value
The unique value that this study adds to the research is, it links the data, trust and sustainability aspects of the Manufacturing Supply Chain (MSC).

Abstract
Purpose
This paper proposes optimisation models to evaluate and examine the selling of extended warranty policies in terms of improved profits in producing/marketing remanufactured products. These models are numerically solved using a quadratic programming solution approach and implemented in the decision support system (DSS).
Design/methodology/approach
The purpose of this paper is to develop the optimisation models for a DSS and evaluate different warranty policies for buyers.
Findings
This study has demonstrated the flexibility and usefulness of a model-driven DSS for the quality and warranty management, which is applied to examine and evaluate different configurations (i.e. component reuse, rebuild and recycle) for remanufactured products and propose the selling of extended warranty policies for buyers.
Research limitations/implications
The developed model-driven DSS can assist manufacturers to select and increase the number of components, e.g. to be reused, rebuilt, and recycled for producing a remanufactured product and propose suitable warranty policies for buyers. However, this study focusses only on the evaluation of warranty policies for specific remanufactured products in a DSS, i.e. types of air compressors for production operations in manufacturing industry.
Originality/value
This study developed optimisation models to be used in a DSS for proposing the selling of extended warranty of a remanufactured product to improve customer satisfaction and maximise the gained profits for manufacturers.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to conduct a systematic literature review of the research in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analytics (BDA) in Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM). Finally, future research directions in this field have been suggested.
Design/methodology/approach
The papers were searched using a set of keywords in the SCOPUS database. These papers were filtered using the Title abstract keywords principle. Further, more papers were found using the forward-backward referencing method. The finalized papers were then classified into eight categories.
Findings
The previous papers in AI and BDA in SCRM were studied. These papers emphasized various modelling and application techniques for AI and BDA in making the supply chain (SC) more resilient. It was found that more research has been done into conceptual modelling rather than real-life applications. It was seen that the use of AI-based techniques and structural equation modelling was prominent.
Practical implications
AI and BDA help build the risk profile, which will guide the decision-makers and risk managers make their decisions quickly and more effectively, reducing the risks on the SC and making it resilient. Other than this, they can predict the risks in disasters, epidemics and any further disruption. They also help select the suppliers and location of the various elements of the SC to reduce the lead times.
Originality/value
The paper suggests various future research directions that fellow researchers can explore. None of the previous research examined the role of BDA and AI in SCRM.

Abstract
Purpose
There has been limited research that has explored the connection between digital supply chain (DSC) and SC innovation and SC dynamic capabilities. This paper aims to examine the mediating effect of SC innovation on the relationship between DSC and SC dynamic capabilities.
Design/methodology/approach
The research model and hypotheses were tested, employing (Statistical Package of Social Sciences) SPSS 25.0 and (Analysis of Moment Structures) AMOS 24.0 on data drawn from the Chinese manufacturing enterprises.
Findings
The study reveals that DSC has a significant positive effect on SC innovation and SC dynamic capabilities. SC innovation also has a significant positive effect on SC dynamic capabilities. Besides, the authors' research illustrates that SC innovation partially mediates the relationship between DSC and SC dynamic capabilities.
Research limitations/implications
Since the results are derived from the data collected from China, it may not, therefore, be generalized to other settings. Moreover, future research could consider other contextual variables such as “environmental uncertainty” and “Government's Reward-Penalty Mechanism,” which may influence SC dynamic capabilities.
Practical implications
The study provides practical insights for senior executives and managers in the manufacturing industry. Managers should emphasize the investment of advanced digital technologies and tools (DTTs) and improvement of SC visibility and collaboration. In the digital age, companies should pay attention to the introduction of advanced technologies, tools and processes and focus on cultivating an innovative spirit to promote SC dynamic capabilities, thereby enhancing competitive advantages.
Originality/value
The paper illustrates that DSC is of great significance to improving SC dynamic capabilities. This study reveals compelling insights for firms to enhance SC innovation and dynamic capabilities by using DSC as an enabler.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the efficacy of bacterial exopolysaccharides (Eps) in reactive black 5 (RB5) textile dye wastewater bioremediation.
Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the efficacy of bacterial exopolysaccharides (Eps) in reactive black 5 (RB5) textile dye wastewater bioremediation.
Design/methodology/approach
The Eps were produced by bacteria isolated from cotton gin trash soils collected from different cotton-growing regions in Kenya for comparison purposes. A broth medium reconstituted using molasses was assessed for its capacity to produce the Eps. RB5 textile dye wastewater was optimized for dye removal under different temperatures, times and molasses concentrations. Dye removal was studied by Lovibond-Day Light Comparator, UV–Vis spectrophotometer and FTIR.
Findings
It was found that cotton gin trash soils contained Eps-producing bacteria. Three of the Eps studied were found to have the capacity to remove at least 80% of the dye from the wastewater.
Research limitations/implications
This research did not assess the efficacy of the RB5 dye removal from the wastewater by mixtures of the Eps.
Practical implications
Bioremediation of textile dye wastewater with Eps produced by bacteria cultured from cotton gin trash soil is significant because it will offer an effective and cleaner alternative to the chemical coagulants.
Social implications
Alternative treatment of textile wastewater with the Eps would result in safer water being released into the water bodies as opposed to the chemically treated wastewater that contains remnant chemicals.
Originality/value
Research on the use of Eps produced by bacteria isolated from cotton gin trash soils for removal of RB5 dye from textile wastewater has not been done before.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to investigate how the sustainable orientation (SO) of companies and the strategic importance of components strategic importance may affect the decision to purchase remanufactured items.
Design/methodology/approach
This study employed a 2 × 2 full-factorial (combining between and within-subjects), scenario-based, role-playing experiment. Subjects in the study were US managers familiar with purchasing/supply chain topics. The hypotheses were tested using linear regression models.
Findings
The findings suggest that before becoming aware of any social benefits, a company's SO directly affects purchasing decisions, especially when the component is strategic. Perceptional aspects also play a significant role.
Research limitations/implications
This study may help managers develop strategies for adopting the use of remanufactured components. New studies can benefit from the findings by focusing on how awareness of social benefits may increase the likelihood of using remanufactured components.
Originality/value

Abstract
Purpose
This study investigates the views of Italian aquaculture production science students, in their role of future operators, on the application of circular economy strategies.
Design/methodology/approach
A key step in the development of professional knowledge is to solicit the opinions of the future operators in the aquaculture sector. The authors used the Q methodology to assess the perceptions of the students on four different knowledge dimensions of the CE: operations, culture and organization, products and services, and ecosystem.
Findings
Four discourses emerge from the results, representing the respondents' views on the CE. The first discourse considers CE as business strategy applicable to products and services, the second a corporate mission and the fourth an operational efficiency strategy. Finally, the third discourse views CE as a multidimensional concept.
Research limitations/implications
This study contributes to the scientific and institutional debate on how to accelerate the aquaculture's circular transition. First and foremost, it offers insights to guide policy makers in the development of appropriate knowledge and information systems. Second, it offers the opportunity to improve training programmes to enable current students to be prepared for the future challenges.
Originality/value
The results reflect a different perceived knowledge of CE among future operators, whose opinions are little explored in the literature.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper’s main aim is to check the mediating effect of supply chain memory in the relationship between using digital technologies and both supply chain resilience and robustness. In addition, the impact of the COVID-19 disruption was tested as a moderator of the impact of supply chain memory on supply chain resilience and robustness.
Design/methodology/approach
Altogether, 257 supply chain managers answered the questionnaire, and data were analysed through structural equation modelling.
Findings
This paper contributes to theory and practice by demonstrating that the experience, familiarity and knowledge to deal with disruptions partially mediate the relationship between digital technologies, resilience and robustness. Moreover, our results show that memory is less efficient for the supply chain to maintain an acceptable level of performance in case of a new extreme disruptive event like COVID-19. The full model was able to explain 36.90% of supply chain memory, 41.58% of supply chain resilience and 46.21% of supply chain robustness.
Originality/value
The study helps to understand how to develop supply chain memory, positioning digital technologies as an antecedent of it. The impact of supply chain memory on supply chain resilience and robustness is proved. Knowledge about the impact of industry 4.0 technologies on disruption management is quantitatively improved. It demonstrates that digital technologies impact resilience and robustness mainly through supply chain memory. The study proves that supply chain memory is less efficient for the chain remains effective when a non-routine disruptive event occurs, but it is still imperative to recover from it.

Abstract
Purpose
Human resource analytics (HRA) has developed as a new business trend and challenge, stressing the strategic relevance of human resource management (HRM) to senior management executives. HRA is a process that uses statistical techniques, to link HR practices to organizational performance. The purpose of this study is to carry out recent development in HRA, bibliometric analysis and content analysis to present a comprehensive account of HRA to fill the gap in the evolution and status of its research.
Design/methodology/approach
The study is based on the recent advances in HRA in terms of it evolution and advancement by analyzing and drawing conclusions 480 articles retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) database from 2003 to March 2022. The methodology is divided into four steps: data collection, analysis, visualization and interpretation. The study performed a rigorous bibliometric assessment of HRA using the bibliometric R-package and VOS viewer.
Findings
The findings based on the literature survey, and bibliometric analysis, reveal the path-breaking articles, the prominent authors, most contributing institutions and countries that have contributed to the HRA scholarship. The results show that the number of publications has significantly increased from 2015 onwards, reaching a maximum of 101 journals in 2021. The USA, China, India, Canada and the United Kingdom were the most productive countries in terms of the total number of publications. Human Resource Management Journal, Human Resource Management, International Journal of Manpower, and Journal of Organizational Effectiveness-People and Performance are the top four academic outlets in the field of HRA. Additionally, the study identifies four clusters of HRA research and the knowledge gaps in HRA scholarship.
Research limitations/implications
The present study is based on the articles retrieved from the WoS. The study underpins HRA research to understand the trends and presents a structured account. However, the study is not free from limitations. It is recommended that future research could be undertaken by combining WoS and Scopus databases to have a more detailed and comprehensive view. This study indicates that the field is still in its infancy stage. Hence, there is a need for more arduous research on the topic to help develop a better understanding of this field.
Originality/value
The findings of knowledge clusters will drive future researchers to augment the field. The evolution of the four clusters and their subsequent development will fill the gaps in the literature. This study enriches the HRA literature and the findings of this study may assist academicians, researchers and managers in furthering their research in the identified research clusters

Abstract
Purpose
The current study aimed to identify the impact of the dynamic capabilities on the circular economy in Jordan's small- and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises sector as and the mediating role of industrial Internet of things.
Design/methodology/approach
This study surveyed small and medium manufacturing enterprises operating in Jordan and collected 459 responses through an online self-administered questionnaire. The effects of dynamic capabilities and the industrial Internet of things on the circular economy were analyzed using covariance-based structural equation modeling (CB-SEM).
Findings
Empirical results showed that all hypotheses are accepted. The results also revealed that the relationship between dynamic capabilities (sensing, seizing and reconfiguring) on a circular economy is mediated by the industrial Internet of things.
Originality/value
This work expanded the application of the dynamic capabilities view to investigate the antecedent effects of the industrial Internet of things and the circular economy and deepened understanding of the dynamic capabilities view theory in assessing the dynamic activities of these firms based on the three dimensions of sensing, seizing and reconfiguring. In general, this study made a theoretical and managerial contribution to supply chain and circular economy literature.
