Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to identify the elements of a LinkedIn profile that hiring professionals focus on most, and then examine LinkedIn profiles in terms of these identified elements across different industries.
Design/methodology/approach
The methodology was comprised of two phases. In the first phase, researchers interviewed hiring professionals to determine their usage of LinkedIn. In the second phase, LinkedIn group member profiles from three industries – HR, sales/marketing and industrial/organizational (I/O) psychology – were compared on the 21 variables identified in Phase 1 (n=288).
Findings
χ2 and ANOVA tests showed significant differences with respect to ten of the LinkedIn variables in how people presented themselves across the three groups. There were also several gender differences found.
Research limitations/implications
A general limitation was the use of a qualitative research approach. A limitation of Phase 1 was that only a small sample of New York City-based hiring professionals was interviewed. Perhaps a wider, more diverse sample would have yielded different variables. In terms of Phase 2, it is possible that just utilizing the second connections of the researchers limited the generalizability of findings.
Practical implications
User unwillingness to fully complete the LinkedIn profile suggests that it may not have replaced the traditional resume yet. Sales/marketing professionals were more likely than HR and I/O psychology professionals to complete multiple aspects of a LinkedIn profile. Women were also less likely than men to provide personal information on their profiles.
Originality/value
Most of the empirical research on social networking sites has focussed on Facebook, a non-professional site. This is, from the knowledge, the first study that systematically examined the manner in which people present themselves on LinkedIn – the most popular professional site used by applicants and recruiters worldwide.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to focus on an adaptive method for fault detection and classification of fault types that trigger in three-phase transmission lines using artificial neural networks (ANNs). The proposed scheme can detect and classify several types of faults, including line-to-ground, line-to-line, double-line-to-ground, triple-line and triple-line-to-ground faults.
Design/methodology/approach
The fundamental components of three-phase current and voltage were used as inputs in the ANNs. An analysis of the impact of variations in the fault resistance, fault type and fault inception time was conducted to evaluate the ANNs performance. The survey compares the performance of the multi-layer perceptron neural network (MLPNN) and Elman recurrent neural network trained with the backpropagation learning technique to improve each of the three phases of the fault detection and classification process. A detailed analysis validates the choice of the ANNs architecture based on the variation in the number of hidden neurons in each step.
Findings
The mean square error, root mean square error, mean absolute error and linear regression are measured to improve the efficiency of the ANN models for both fault detection and classification. The results indicate that the MLPNN can detect and classify faults with a satisfactory performance.
Originality/value
The smart adaptive scheme is fast and accurate for fault detection and classification in a single circuit transmission line when faced with different conditions and can be useful for transmission line protection schemes.

Abstract
Purpose
There are industrial applications for varying speed lid-driven flow and heat transfer such as the float glass process where the glass film stretches or thickens depending on the desired thickness. Hence the tin cavity underneath or the nitrogen cavity above is being driven by a variable speed. The purpose of this paper is to simulate such behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
Numerical solution of variable speed lid-driven cavity is carried out with thermal radiation being considered using control volume approach and staggered grid and applying the SIMPLE algorithm. Transient simulation is used for 2D model in the present study. Second order upwind schemes were used for discretization of momentum, energy equations and time.
Findings
Under laminar conditions, thermal radiation plays a significant role in the heat transfer characteristics of the lid-driven cavity. This effect is more significant for blackbody radiation and decreases as the surface emissivity decreases. Nusselt number (Nu) behavior lies between these two limiting case profiles considering constant speed profiles of both maximum and minimum lid velocities, respectively. In addition, local Nu values at the tip where higher than those at the top of the cavity that is stagnant.
Research limitations/implications
The study is limited to laminar flow case.
Practical implications
The applications of this study can be found in float glass process where the glass film stretches or thickens depending on the desired thickness. Hence the tin cavity underneath or the nitrogen cavity above is being driven by a variable speed. Another application involves casting of plastic films. The molten polymer leaves the die with a considerable thickness and high temperature. The film is then trenched to reach its final thickness. In this case, usually there is no actual cavity above or below the film but one can approximate the problem as such. Other similar applications do exist in food drying and processing where the conveyer belt is in portions and their speed may not be the same in different section of the processing oven.

To the best of the authors knowledge, no study in the literature addressed the effect of thermal radiation in lid-driven cavities with variable speed

Abstract
The increasing importance and proliferation of text data provide a unique opportunity and novel lens to study human communication across a myriad of business and marketing applications. For example, consumers compare and review products online, individuals interact with their voice assistants to search, shop, and express their needs, investors seek to extract signals from firms' press releases to improve their investment decisions, and firms analyze sales call transcripts to increase customer satisfaction and conversions. However, extracting meaningful information from unstructured text data is a nontrivial task. In this chapter, we review established natural language processing (NLP) methods for traditional tasks (e.g., LDA for topic modeling and lexicons for sentiment analysis and writing style extraction) and provide an outlook into the future of NLP in marketing, covering recent embedding-based approaches, pretrained language models, and transfer learning for novel tasks such as automated text generation and multi-modal representation learning. These emerging approaches allow the field to improve its ability to perform certain tasks that we have been using for more than a decade (e.g., text classification). But more importantly, they unlock entirely new types of tasks that bring about novel research opportunities (e.g., text summarization, and generative question answering). We conclude with a roadmap and research agenda for promising NLP applications in marketing and provide supplementary code examples to help interested scholars to explore opportunities related to NLP in marketing.

Abstract
The Bureau of Economics in the Federal Trade Commission has a three-part role in the Agency and the strength of its functions changed over time depending on the preferences and ideology of the FTC’s leaders, developments in the field of economics, and the tenor of the times. The over-riding current role is to provide well considered, unbiased economic advice regarding antitrust and consumer protection law enforcement cases to the legal staff and the Commission. The second role, which long ago was primary, is to provide reports on investigations of various industries to the public and public officials. This role was more recently called research or “policy R&D”. A third role is to advocate for competition and markets both domestically and internationally. As a practical matter, the provision of economic advice to the FTC and to the legal staff has required that the economists wear “two hats,” helping the legal staff investigate cases and provide evidence to support law enforcement cases while also providing advice to the legal bureaus and to the Commission on which cases to pursue (thus providing “a second set of eyes” to evaluate cases). There is sometimes a tension in those functions because building a case is not the same as evaluating a case. Economists and the Bureau of Economics have provided such services to the FTC for over 100 years proving that a sub-organization can survive while playing roles that sometimes conflict. Such a life is not, however, always easy or fun.

Abstract
Minicomputers provide an alternative means to access on‐line bibliographic retrieval systems. As the use of on‐line retrieval continues to grow and to spread into the nontechnical community, users and potential users will find it imperative to establish new methods to maximize the benefits of available on‐line systems. The paper explores the effects minicomputers can have on the on‐line retrieval environment. The experience at Editec indicates that minicomputers used in on‐line retrieval offer substantial benefits not possible using computer terminals, the major benefit being the increased acceptance of the on‐line search product by the end user community. Variable costs are held down to acceptable limits, the major consideration for those interested in their use being their high capital cost. The primary difference in using minicomputers rather than computer terminals is the ability to work at higher speeds. This enables many changes to be made which can affect the on‐line retrieval product. The decision to use minicomputers for on‐line retrieval entails lengthy analysis of current and projected use of on‐line retrieval within an organization, the availability of qualified staff, the costs of equipment and software development. It is hoped that some of the considerations in the paper may be helpful in analyzing these questions.

Abstract
A survey of managers in Israel, Slovenia, and the USA finds a marked similarity with respect to the characteristics and abilities managers need to contribute to organizational success. Factors such as decision making ability, communication skills, commitment to organizational goals, ability to choose the right persons in key persons and ability to delegate are considered to be very important although there are differences with respect to the degree of their importance. Several managerial characteristics are also found to be significantly correlated with the firm’s financial success and employee morale. The findings are framed in the context of convergence‐divergence hypothesis as it applies to the internationalization of management practices.

Purpose
Vertical handoff mechanism (VHO) becomes very popular because of the improvements in the mobility models. These developments are less to certain circumstances and thus do not provide support in generic mobility, but the vertical handover management providing in the heterogeneous wireless networks (HWNs) is crucial and challenging. Hence, this paper introduces the vertical handoff management approach based on an effective network selection scheme.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper aims to improve the working principle of previous methods and make VHO more efficient and reliable for the HWN.Initially, the handover triggering techniques is modelled for identifying an appropriate place to initiate handover based on the computed coverage area of cellular base station or wireless local area network (WLAN) access point. Then, inappropriate networks are eliminated for determining the better network to perform handover. Accordingly, a network selection approach is introduced on the basis ofthe Fractional-dolphin echolocation-based support vector neural network (Fractional-DE-based SVNN). The Fractional-DE is designed by integrating Fractional calculus (FC) in Dolphin echolocation (DE), and thereby, modifying the update rule of the DE algorithm based on the location of the solutions in past iterations. The proposed Fractional-DE algorithm is used to train Support vector neural network (SVNN) for selecting the best weights. Several parameters, like Bit error rate (BER), End to end delay (EED), jitter, packet loss, and energy consumption are considered for choosing the best network.
Findings
The performance of the proposed VHO mechanism based on Fractional-DE is evaluated based on delay, energy consumption, staytime, and throughput. The proposed Fractional-DE method achieves the minimal delay of 0.0100 sec, the minimal energy consumption of 0.348, maximal staytime of 4.373 sec, and the maximal throughput of 109.20 kbps.
Originality/value
