Research has identified that workplace bullying is a significant problem within health care, with health-care trainees at particular risk. The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of workplace bullying from the perspectives of trainee clinical psychologists.

A total of 14 trainee clinical psychologists recruited from British universities participated in semi-structured telephone interviews. Qualitative data was analysed using thematic analysis.

The analysis generated four main themes: workplace bullying “activating threat responses”, the process of trainee clinical psychologists “making sense of bullying”, “difficulties navigating power within the system” when experiencing and reporting bullying and “finding safety and support” within and outside of work contexts.

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first known study of workplace bullying specifically within clinical psychology. The research has implications for guidance for training institutions and professional bodies associated with trainee mental health professionals.

This study of community mental health teams (CMHTs) in Knowsley aimed to provide information about changes to the service user group and the nature of work undertaken in the teams following the implementation of the national service framework for mental health. Clear changes in the balance of work undertaken were identified, reflecting successful implementation of the new policies and appropriate selection of cases. Issues raised by such developments are summarised in view of their relevance to other localities.

Mental health (MH) and caring can be demanding for those directly and indirectly impacted. An under-researched area is that of professionals’ personal experiences of caring for a loved one with MH difficulties. This study aims to provide an in-depth exploration of psychologists’ experiences of caring and its impact on clinical practice.

A total of 11 psychologists with experiences of caring for a loved one with a diagnosed MH condition and/or MH distress participated in semi-structured interviews focused on caring experiences and its impact. Transcripts were analysed using thematic analysis.

Themes identified were as follows: personal and professional roles; the emergence of a carer identity; carer stress and strain; impact on professional practice; and dual positioning.

This study highlighted the knowledge and value of listening to professionals with lived experiences. Their ability to understand stigmatisation through personal caring experiences may facilitate the mitigation of this for vulnerable people attending clinical services.

The purpose of this paper is to propose that, within the practice of motion branding, transforming type has been largely neglected by existing theorists and its importance to wider marketing trends overlooked. It will be observed that previous texts on transitional letterforms have tended to focus on changes in global arrangement and in doing so have neglected to recognise the significance of changes that occur at a local level, within individual letterforms.

Taking an interdisciplinary approach, with examples including idents and bumpers from Channel 4, Sky, FOX, Five and MTV. New methods of understanding these artefacts will be introduced, with emphasis on how they affect the relationship between broadcaster’s identities and the medium of television. Modes of definition and understanding that have previously been applied to holographic poetry will be applied to the field of on-screen artefacts.

The paper will discuss how branding has adapted to incorporate the features of the medium of television, and propose new methods of classification for the associated processes of metamorphosis, construction, parallax and revelation.

Motion branding, in the form of television idents, is frequently described as containing “motion typography”, but this and related terminology is vague or misleading – and reduces all forms of kineticism to simple motion. On-screen branding often operates more complex temporal behaviours. Lack of sufficient vocabulary to describe such transformations has forced practitioners to describe their work in terms of previously existing work, thereby limiting the perceived scope of their ideas and the possibility of innovation. This paper resolves the lack of existing vocabulary by providing new definitions of four categories of fluid transformation that appear in contemporary television idents.

Describes the Asian Librarians and Arts Officers Group (ALAG) aims as to improve library and arts services to the Asian communities present in Britain including the varied needs of people from the Indian sub‐continent. The National Centre for Information Media and Technology (CIMTECH) is developing a full text database of optical disc trade literature and journal articles. The database will be held on a WORM (write once, read many) disc and it will be used to investigate the economic, technical and administrative issues associated with the application of writable discs in library and information sciences. There will be opportunities to see demonstrations of the system throughout the course of the project. A new‐type environmental test chamber with special capabilities for the temperature testing of optical missile guidance systems has been developed by Aerophysics Development Corporation, a subsidiary of Curtiss‐Wright Corporation, at Santa Barbara, California.

TRIS (trials support measure) is a European Commission (EC)‐funded activity involved with co‐ordinating 25 EC‐funded “take‐up trial projects” to increase their impact and exploit their results. The take‐up trial projects, all of them now completed, involved the application of new technologies in 80 cultural institutions in Europe and have contributed to cultural innovation. After introducing the general context of the EC’s cultural heritage sector within which TRIS and the take‐up trial projects have been funded, this article describes a selection of these projects, clustered according to their particular relevance to the world of museums, open‐air sites, libraries and archive institutions. The paper then provides an overview of the technologies with which the projects have experimented.

Mrs Barbara Castle has reconstituted the Civil Air Transport Industry Training Board for a further three years and it has been renamed the Air Transport and Travel Industry Training Board. The Board has been enlarged to cover the activities of travel agents and package tour operators. Mrs Castle has appointed 23 members.
