Abstract
Provides a perspective on the utilization of the Internet in the consumer electronics market. A preliminary examination of this market‐based on observation of existing Web sites and secondary research – was conducted to provide a springboard for insights regarding consumer use of the Internet and Web page design. Generalizations regarding the consumer electronics market may be useful in applications to other industries.

Abstract
Highlights the need for business process reengineering and impact of IT on enterprises. Presents in detail the evolution, modules, verticals, model, management concerns and network infrastructure, selection of software packages and enterprise preparedness for implementation of enterprise resource planning. Briefly describes the key features of popular ERP packages, viz. MFG/PRO, IFS/AVALON, SAAP, BAAN IV, J.D. Edwards, Marshal (R) and PeopleSoft. Concludes that enterprises definitely attain best business practices by implementing ERP, in an effort to position for success in the twenty‐first century.

Abstract
Purpose
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) offers an opportunity for librarians to add their important perspective to the broader technology conversation. This paper aims to give librarians tips for preparing and strategizing for a successful experience. It also provides newcomers to the show with ideas on how they can gain access and who should go.
Design/methodology/approach
This study is a conference report.
Findings
The CES is a worthwhile event for librarians.
Originality/value
CES is unknown to many librarians. There are many misunderstandings about the ability to gain access. There is much uncertainty about what goes on at the show. This paper explains CES and how librarians can put their experience to good use for the profession and their organizations.

Abstract
The decade from 2000 until 2010 was a turbulent time for Toyota Motor Company. The carmaker came under significant criticism from the United States government, consumers throughout the world, and media critics amid allegations of poor quality control and vehicle safety concerns. Problems with accelerators and brake systems were found on several of its most popular models, a situation initially exacerbated by the slow and somewhat tentative response from top management. Toyota was accused of not addressing early warning signs that appeared several years before the crisis received intense negative publicity. Toyota struggled to retain the confidence of consumers and governmental regulators, eventually recalling approximately eight million automobiles.

Abstract
This chapter aims to identify the main determinants that define the architectural properties of network emergence and significantly influence the dynamics underlying network evolution in time. The identification and analysis of these determinants, as well as the dynamic processes tied to them, allows to appreciate the competitive bases and consequences of network morphology. To this purpose, using a complex systems perspective as an integrative conceptual approach, we represent networks as complex dynamic systems of knowledge and capabilities. We perform a comparative in-depth analysis of the processes underlying the emergence and evolution of STMicroelectronic's global network and of Toyota's supplier network in the US so as to allow an elucidatory empirical assessment of the theoretical representation elaborated in the article.

Abstract
Purpose
In real-time entertainment processing applications, processing of the multiple data streams demands high efficient multiple transfers, which leads to the computational overhead for system-on-chip (SoC), which runs the artificial intelligence algorithms. High-performance direct memory access controller (DMAC) is incorporated in SoC to perform the multiple data transfers without the participation of main processors. But achieving the area-efficient and power-aware DMAC suitable for streaming the multiple data remains to be a daunting challenge among the researchers.
Design/methodology/approach
The purpose of this paper to provide the DMA operations without intervention of central processing unit (CPU) for bulk video data transmissions.
Findings
The proposed DMAC has been developed based on the hybrid advanced extensible interface (AXI)-PCI bus subsystem to handle the multiple data streams from the video sources. The proposed model consists of bus selector module, user control signal, status register, DMA-supported address and AXI-PCI subsystems to achieve better performance in analysing the video frames.
Originality/value
The extensive experimentation is carried out with Xilinx Zynq SoC architecture using Very High Speed integrated circuit hardware description language (VHDL) programming, and performance metrics such as utilization area and power are calculated and compared with the other existing DMA controllers such as Scatter-DMA, Gather-DMA and Enhanced DMA. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed DMAC has outperformed other existing DMAC in terms of less area, less delay and power, which makes the proposed model suitable for streaming multiple video streams.

Abstract
Purpose
Globalization is changing the nature of competition and value creation in ways more subtle and fundamental than simply cost. By incubating scores of new business models that can unseat established companies, globalization is creating opportunities for new value creation and highly profitable growth at the two ends of the value chain – new customer connections at one end and new models of innovation at the other. This article discusses globalization and the changing nature of competition and value creation.
Design/methodology/approach
Provides a viewpoint of globalization and the changing nature of competition and value creation.
Findings
For many companies, the most powerful moves will be to take advantage of university alliances and global talent sourcing. Every company today, large or small, has to draw the global map of the key talent pools for its business, whether that talent consists of software programmers, machinists, biotechnologists, materials scientists, cinematographers, financial analysts, medical technicians, call center operators, or electronics engineers. The key point is to spend more on the highest‐impact activities. One way is to practice the “open innovation” approach as described by Henry Chesbrough of the University of California at Berkeley, which advocates building on the innovations of others. There is tremendous leverage in shifting your thinking from “not invented here” to “invented elsewhere, monetized here.”
Originality/value
Firms that follow the approach advocated in this paper may gain an advantage in value creation by concentrating not on being the first to deploy a technology but on being the best at designing and using their information.
