Abstract

A pilot project to develop a practical and clinically useful data capture system is described. The system is designed to collect quality assurance and clinical outcome data on a routine basis to monitor and improve the efficiency and efficacy of the service offered by a multidisciplinary community mental health team. The system follows an “input‐process‐outcome” model. Quality and outcome measures are discussed with particular reference to the literature on simple outcome evaluation measures and the use of global scales.

Abstract

This article uses a 22‐industry breakdown of the UK manufacturing sector to examine the effects on employment of various changes in the structure, but not the overall level, of exports, imports, and trade balances within an input‐output framework. The analyses reported relate to greater specialisation in trade, faster structural adjustment and import substitution. The results show both the industrial pattern and overall net effect of employment changes and the distinction is made between the direct employment consequences of changes in the trade balances of the industries concerned and induced employment changes via derived demands for intermediate inputs.

Abstract

One of the common law duties owed by the employer is his duty to take reasonable care for the safety of his employee. This common law duty is an implied term in the contract of employment and is therefore contractual in nature. Because of the difficulties which may arise in bringing an action in contract for breach of the employer's duty of care, the employee who has sustained injuries during the course of his employment (although he may sue either in contract of tort will normally bring a tort action.
