Abstract

Purpose

The study investigates the role of locus of control and motivation in predicting green buyer behaviour using social cognitive theory. The study also examines the mediating role of motivation and the moderating role of health consciousness in the relationship between motivation and green consumer behaviour.

Design/methodology/approach

To test the postulated relationships in the study, responses were collected from 410 customers. The study tested validity through confirmatory factor analysis and examined various hypotheses through Process Macros.

Findings

The analysis revealed that the locus of control of the buyer increases green buyer behaviour. The study established a positive relationship between internal and external locus of control and intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, impacting green buyer behaviour. The study also identified evidence supporting the mediating role of intrinsic and the extrinsic motivation and the moderating influence of health consciousness.

Practical implications

The study expands upon current theory by illustrating the association between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and customers' green purchasing behaviour. It enhances existing literature by identifying health consciousness as a personal factor influencing the connection between motivation and eco-friendly purchasing, urging marketers and policymakers to promote green buying.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no prior studies have examined the effect of internal and external locus of control on green buyer behaviour. Through identifying the mediating mechanism and health consciousness as a personal factor, the study enhances both theoretical understanding and practical applications.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to provide a secure and efficient pairing protocol for two devices. Due to the large amount of data involving sensitive information transmitted in Internet of Things (IoT) devices, generating a secure shared key between smart devices for secure data sharing becomes essential. However, existing smart devices pairing schemes require longer pairing time and are difficult to resist attacks caused by context, as the secure channel is established based on restricted entropy from physical context.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper proposes a fuzzy smart IoT device pairing protocol via speak to microphone, FS2M. In FS2M, the device pairing is realized from the speaking audio of humans in the environment around the devices, which is easily implemented in the vast majority of Internet products. Specifically, to protect the privacy of secret keys and improve efficiency, this paper presents a single-round pairing protocol by adopting a recently published asymmetric fuzzy encapsulation mechanism (AFEM), which allows devices with similar environmental fingerprints to successfully negotiate the shared key. To instantiate AFEM, this paper presents a construction algorithm, the AFEM-ECC, based on elliptic curve cryptography.

Findings

This paper analyzes the security of the FS2M and its pairing efficiency with extensive experiments. The results show that the proposed protocol can achieve a secure device pairing between two IoT devices with high efficiency.

Originality/value

In FS2M, a novel cryptographic primitive (i.e., AFEM-ECC) are designed for IoT device pairing by using a new context-environment (i.e., human voice) . The experimental results show that FS2M has a good performance in both communication cost (i.e., 130 KB) and running time (i.e., 10 S).

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of current carbon tax (CT) policy on organizations involved in a sharing network relation.

Design/methodology/approach

For finding the CT and economic value of the industries connected in a sharing network model a multi-objective multi-integer linear model has been formulated. The data set of the case organization is used for computation. The formulated mathematical model is computed with the aid of GAMS optimization program.

Findings

This research paper demonstrates the effectiveness of the sharing network strategy in increasing the economic value and decreasing the CT for industries involved in sharing network. The CT value INR 3,012.694 for the industries in Scenario II which incorporates the sharing network is less than the CT INR 3,580.167 for industries in Scenario I without sharing network.

Research limitations/implications

The data used for the computation is based on a particular sharing network under investigation. The formulated mathematical model can be checked with similar sharing networks by varying the parameters.

Practical implications

This work can aid in gaining complete knowledge on the sharing network strategy which can uplift the resources and the monetary value of the non-efficient industries moving them towards sustainable and greener supply chain practices.

Social implications

The presented work can impact various industries in developing countries providing them with a strategy to enhance their resources and economic value by maintaining an amicable relation.

Originality/value

This work uniquely was able to validate economic feasibility and CT in accordance with the carbon footprint involved in sharing network. This sharing network also incorporates the concepts of circular economy and reverse logistics for showcasing a better strategy.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to outline the research field of initial public offerings (IPOs) pricing and performance by combining bibliometric analysis with a systematic literature review process.

Design/methodology/approach

The study uses over three decades of IPO publication records (1989–2020) from Scopus and Web of Science databases. An analysis of keyword co-occurrence and bibliometric coupling was used to gain insights into the evolution of IPO literature.

Findings

The study categorized the IPO research field into four primary clusters: IPO pricing and short-run behaviour, IPO performance and influence of intermediaries, venture capital financing and top management and political affiliations and litigation risks. The results offer a framework for delineating research advancements at different stages of IPOs and illustrate the growing interest of researchers in IPOs in recent years. The study identified future research potential in the areas of corporate governance, earning management and investor sentiments related to IPO performance. Similarly, the study highlighted the opportunity to test multiple theoretical frameworks on alternative investment platforms (SME IPO platforms) operating under distinct regulatory environments.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this paper represents the first instance of using both bibliometric and systematic review to quantitatively and qualitatively review the articles published in the area of IPO pricing and performance from 1989 to 2020.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to quantify the trend of variables used for building a theoretical model with the help of analysing bibliometrics data of inventory management (IM) and Total Quality Management (TQM) practices and their effects on firm performance.

Design/methodology/approach

Scopus' research database and the Web of Science (WoS) (including Elsevier, Emerald Group Publishing, Taylor and Francis, Wiley, IEEE, Informs and SAGE) were used to find relevant articles. The articles, review papers and conference proceedings were screened from 1993 to 2021. The articles were analysed to explain the different types of IM practices, TQM practices and their effect on the firm's performance. Thematic analysis was done using a bibliometric package of “R” (Biblioshiny) and VOSviewer to identify the key trends, approaches and research agenda.

Findings

The research covered 28 years of publications and summarised 497 articles, review papers and conference papers. Researchers concluded that IM highly correlates with the inventory turnover ratio and has no relation to firm performance. Further, TQM positively affects firm performance, but integrating IM and TQM will be a research scope for future study as none of the researchers previously covered this.

Research limitations/implications

Due to the systematic literature review (SLR) and Bibliometric review, the study is limited to the Scopus and WoS (including Elsevier, Emerald Group Publishing, Taylor and Francis, Wiley, IEEE, Informs and SAGE) databases.

Originality/value

Being the research on a bibliometric and systematic review, relating IM practices with TQM practices would be the novelty of this paper.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper adopts a modified Taguchi approach to develop empirical relationships to the performance characteristics (output responses) in terms of process variables and demonstrated their validity through comparison of test data. The method suggests a few tests as per the orthogonal array and provides complete information for all combinations of levels and process variables. This method also provides the estimated range of output responses so that the scatter in the repeated tests can be assessed prior to the tests.

Design/methodology/approach

In order to obtain defect-free products meeting the required specifications, researchers have conducted extensive experiments using powder bed fusion (PBF) process measuring the performance indicators (namely, relative density, surface roughness and hardness) to specify a set of printing parameters (namely, laser power, scanning speed and hatch spacing). A simple and reliable multi-objective optimization method is considered in this paper for specifying a set of optimal process parameters with SS316 L powder. It was reported that test samples printed even with optimal set of input variables revealed irregular shaped, microscopic porosities and improper melt pool formation.

Findings

Finally, based on detailed analysis, it is concluded that it is impossible to express the performance indicators, explicitly in terms of equivalent energy density (E_0ˆ*), which is a combination of multiple sets of selective laser melting (SLM) process parameters, with different performance indicators. Empirical relations for the performance indicators are developed in terms of SLM process parameters. Test data are within/close to the expected range.

Practical implications

Based on extensive analysis of the SS316 L data using modified Taguchi approach, the optimized process parameters are laser power = 298 W, scanning speed = 900 mm/s and hatch distance = 0.075 mm, for which the results of surface roughness = 2.77 Ra, relative density = 99.24%, hardness = 334 Hv and equivalent energy density is 4.062. The estimated data for the same are surface roughness is 3.733 Ra, relative density is 99.926%, hardness is 213.64 Hv and equivalent energy density is 3.677.

Originality/value

Even though equivalent energy density represents the energy input to the process, the findings of this paper conclude that energy density should no longer be considered as a dependent process parameter, as it provides multiple results for the specified energy density. This aspect has been successfully demonstrated in this paper using test data.

Abstract

Purpose

Efficient resource utilization in wireless sensor networks is an important issue. Clustering structure has an important effect on the efficient use of energy, which is one of the most critical resources. However, it is extremely vital to choose efficient and suitable cluster head (CH) elements in these structures to harness their benefits. Selecting appropriate CHs and finding optimal coefficients for each parameter of a relevant fitness function in CHs election is a non-deterministic polynomial-time (NP-hard) problem that requires additional processing. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to propose efficient solutions to achieve the main goal by addressing the related issues.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper draws inspiration from three metaheuristic-based algorithms; gray wolf optimizer (GWO), incremental GWO and expanded GWO. These methods perform various complex processes very efficiently and much faster. They consist of cluster setup and data transmission phases. The first phase focuses on clusters formation and CHs election, and the second phase tries to find routes for data transmission. The CH selection is obtained using a new fitness function. This function focuses on four parameters, i.e. energy of each node, energy of its neighbors, number of neighbors and its distance from the base station.

Findings

The results obtained from the proposed methods have been compared with HEEL, EESTDC, iABC and NR-LEACH algorithms and are found to be successful using various analysis parameters. Particularly, I-HEELEx-GWO method has provided the best results.

Originality/value

This paper proposes three new methods to elect optimal CH that prolong the networks lifetime, save energy, improve overhead along with packet delivery ratio.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to enhance the network lifetime of WSN. In wireless sensor network (WSN), the sensor nodes are widely deployed in a terrestrial environment to sense and evaluate the physical circumstances. The sensor node near to the sink will deplete more energy faster than other nodes; hence, there arises an energy hole and network partitioning problem in stationary sink-based WSN. Even though many mobile sink-based WSN is formulated to mitigate energy hole, inappropriate placement of sink leads to packet drop and affect the network lifetime of WSN. Therefore, it is necessary to have an efficient sink mobility approach to prevent an aforesaid problem.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, zone-based sink mobility (ZBSM) approach is proposed in which the zone formation along with controlled sink mobility is preferred for energy hole mitigation and optimal sink node placement. In ZBSM, the sink decides to move toward strongly loaded zone (SLZ) for avoiding network partitioning problems where the selection of SLZ can be carried out by using Fuzzy Logic.

Findings

The performance results confirm that the proposed scheme reduces energy consumption as well as enhances the network lifetime compared with an existing scheme.

Originality/value

A new optimal sink node placement is proposed to enhance the network lifetime and packet delivery ratio of WSN.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to explore an active control strategy for attenuation of in-line and transverse flow-induced vibration (FIV) of two tandem-arranged circular cylinders.

Design/methodology/approach

The control system is based on the rotary oscillation of cylinders around their axis, which acts according to the lift coefficient feedback signal. The fluid-solid interaction simulations are performed for two velocity ratios (V_r = 5.5 and 7.5), three spacing ratios (L/D = 3.5, 5.5 and 7.5) and three different control cases. Cases 1 and 2, respectively, deal with the effect of rotary oscillation of front and rear cylinders, while Case 3 considers the effect of applied rotary oscillation to both cylinders.

Findings

The results show that in Case 3, the FIV of both cylinders is perfectly reduced, while in Case 2, only the vibration of rear cylinder is mitigated and no change is observed in the vortex-induced vibration of front cylinder. In Case 1, by rotary oscillation of the front cylinder, depending on the reduced velocity and the spacing ratio values, the transverse oscillation amplitude of the rear cylinder suppresses, remains unchanged and even increases under certain conditions. Hence, at every spacing ratio and reduced velocity, an independent controller system for each cylinder is necessary to guarantee a perfect vibration reduction of front and rear cylinders.

Originality/value

The current manuscript seeks to deploy a type of active rotary oscillating (ARO) controller to attenuate the FIV of two tandem-arranged cylinders placed on elastic supports. Three different cases are considered so as to understand the interaction of these cylinders regarding the rotary oscillation.

Abstract

Purpose

When using embedded, student-centered assessment tools for maker education, understanding the characteristics of a body of evidence can help teachers guide the assessment process. This study aims to examine assessment artifacts from a makerspace program and present a set of qualities that emerged, which researchers and maker educators can use to evaluate the quality of evidence before interpreting it and making claims about student learning.

Design/methodology/approach

This study used the interpretive analysis approach to identify salient qualities in a body of evidence of maker learning. Data sources included student assessment artifacts, researchers’ analytic memos, notes on the coding and analysis process, background stories and field observations.

Findings

The study found that the assessment artifacts generated by students aligned with the maker-related target skills. A set of qualities was produced that can be used to describe the strength of a body of evidence and help determine whether it is appropriate to be used in the meaning making phase.

Practical implications

The qualities identified in this study can be directly incorporated into the embedded assessment toolkit to provide feedback on the strength of evidence for learning in makerspaces.

Originality/value

Assessment methods for maker education are nascent, and ways to describe the quality of a student-generated body of evidence have not yet been established. This study applies existing knowledge of embedded assessment and reflective practice toward the creation of a new way of assessing skills that are difficult to measure.
