Abstract

Cradle to Cradle certification is the roadmap for moving companies ahead of the constantly evolving regulatory process, for transforming retailers into agents of restorative change, and for shifting certification from a marketing exercise to a core business strategy. Here we focus on the decade of work done with companies through the certification process to spur innovation, disseminate best practices, and promote healthy alternatives to business as usual. We define Cradle to Cradle principles and certification, explain why these are important, offer details about the certification process, and list examples from companies working to use Cradle to Cradle (C2C) principles to create new products and materials. Specific detail about certification will be given in the areas of: material health, material reutilization, energy, water stewardship, and social responsibility.
