The University of Warwick has established a £70 million automotive research centre which it hopes will help transform the image of UK engineering. The centre will focus on support for the manufacture of luxury and prestige products – which the university feels are the future of the UK car industry. A total of £5 million of the funding will be used for incentives to persuade graduates to enter engineering as a career and helping the recruitment of post-graduate engineers. Currently about half of Warwick's graduating engineers do not enter engineering for their subsequent career! Nick Matthews of the university's manufacturing groups said that: "The centre will go some way towards reinvigorating engineering. Somewhere along the way, the engineering sector has lost its confidence. There has beentoo much moaning and too little ambition".
