All for one

The skills gap! We all know that this is the term given to the unavailability of appropriately skilled labour to meet the needs of industry and commerce. Many people are less clear about whose responsibility it is to plug the skills gap. Individuals often seem to think that "someone" should train them. Companies seem to think that "the government" should ensure a flow of appropriately skilled workers. Government seems to have a multiplicity of views depending on who you speak to – and at what time. Of course we enlightened folk know that this is properly a shared responsibility. We also know that this is something we have to get right. Time will tell whether we manage to sort out the "politics".
