Going For Gold

If you want to achieve gold in the world of sport, that's the colour you should wear, according to colour printer company Oki Systems (UK). It claims that its research reveals that the world's top sporting teams wear yellow or gold, followed by green, blue and red. Designed to identify how colour can dictate and predict sporting success, Oki's research looked at the colours worn by the top winning teams in the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games. The company worked with Suzy Chiazzari, who is described as a "colour psychologist", to analyse the colours of the Commonwealth Games, top five teams, and the home kit of the final eight teams in the World Cup. There were six dominant colours in the winning teams. Of the 13 teams, 15 per cent wore yellow/gold, 23 per cent wore green and black, 46 per cent wore blue and red, and 54 per cent wore white. Chris Gill, managing director of Oki Systems (UK), adds: "Our business is all about the competitive advantage that using colour can bring, and this research demonstrates that whether you are choosing the colour of your logo or designing your football strip, the colours you use have the power to give you a leading edge."
