The death of e-mail
The death of e-mail
Might junk mail be the death of e-mail? Like many people, I get over 30 junk e-mails each day. Because I have a quota on storage for my e-mail inbox, when I am away junk mail fills the inbox and "real" e-mails do not get in. This is annoying (to say the least). It does not seem as though anyone (or any collective set of agencies) is likely to be able to stem the flow of junk e-mail (though whether anyone ever responds to most of the rubbish that is sent is highly unlikely), so e-mail may just be swamped. E-mail has, however, proved to be a valued and useful form of communication. Presumably, what we will then see is a "higher-level", quality assured or value-enhanced system that does effectively deal with the problem – at higher cost, of course. Then, perhaps e-mail might once more become a useful medium.
